Hi Kate, I’m new to your channel, I really love it! This is the 1st time I’ve seen the “no waste” method of sewing flying geese-wow, I’ve not tried any of those yet, but I’m definitely gonna & soon! That is after I’ve bought a copy of your quilting planner book-which looks great & that bloc-loc ruler too-wow, so excited to get back to quilting…it’s been almost 10 yrs since I’ve done anything “quilting’ & I’m so very EXCITED to get to stitchin & designing AND designing & STITCHIN!!! Your content is so relaxing & inspiring!!
Here I sit on a Saturday morning (2024) and I am enjoying this immensely. When John comes in and just does his thing 😂. Kate I like the flying goose block but I have been intimidated by it but I thinks shall give it a try
I willl challenge myself to make flying geese quilt now. I admit they intimidate me but you have really shown a good example. I love the pattern of using 4 together. Love you, Kate.
I think John's layout could be called Every Which Way!! Too funny the way he tossed the last two. I love making geese, and every so often I make a pile of them for the 'parts department' and save them for some day when I have enough for a quilt.
I really love these flying geese and these various way to use those FG! - I Love the fabrics- she used solids greens and love these designs of flying geese- love it!- Thanks, Kate and John😂🥰
Whos cheeky kid is that?!?!? LOL 😄😄😄 Kate I have never been too fond of the flying geese but after seeing all those blues and greens together my opinion has changed. I adore blues and greens!
Hello Kate, after watching this video I am courageous enough to start with a flying geese quilt. I have collected a box full of Kaffe Fassett fabrics and now a plan is growing in my brain to mix them with solids. Many thanks - I love your videos, your voice and almost everything what comes from over your way. Many greetings from Germany
Had to pull over for a pit stop at a tire center, while waiting, struck up a conversation with a man, a little stand-offish initially! His accent soon gave him away! Native to England he followed a woman to America and, though that didn't work out, he's stuck here! So, I introced him to your page here on TH-cam, told him the name of your channel--and, he loosened up right away, "Yeah, in America people think the word homely means gangly or ugly, in England it means something entirely different..." And, as he stammered, I inserted, "Cozy?" "Yeah, 'cozy he said! Yeah!" So, I told him, "If you want a taste of home, just look up 'The Last Homely House/TH-cam and you'll feel right at home!
Of course I told him about your subject matter--and, that you've started a new channel for gardening--told him you have a beautiful "spread", an American word for land/homely house!
Four flying geese at a time is my favorite method. I made a flying geese quilt for my son. The geese went in one direction (north) with strips of solid fabric inbetween the rows. I like your idea of keeping all four geese together, after all birds of a feather flock together! John looks like he is a big help!
I only sewed one variation of a Flying Geese in the 45 years I quilt. I made it for my dying brother and called it Honeward Bound….He since passed away and his wife and son too… the quilt now belongs to my SIL daughter from a previous relation.
Also wanted to say as a new viewer of your lovely channel...I just Love the relationship you have with family. Especially Anna. My mother n' law was my best friend, my spiritual mother and we had quite a unique Mother/Daughter extraordinary relationship. Thanks for all your warm hugs over the e-Waves. Thank you dear friend. Also my grandmother that taught me sewing and quilting at a very early age as she had 5 boys, her name was Anna.
One of the few quilts I have kept for myself is a flying goose quilt, inspired by a previous video you did Kate, using scraps. The geese were made up of fabric I made from crumbs and just used a charcoal grey as the sky, and laid out in a rainbow sweep. I love the quilt because everytime I look at it I see fabrics that bring back memories. Thanks Kate
The Flying Goose block is an all time favorite. I have found more than 30 other blocks that use the Flying Goose block as a component of a more complicated block. Thank you for your lovely videos.❤
Miss Kate. My Quilt Planning Book arrived today Tuesday 6th 2023 with Hexigon Pillow lit in the blues and purples. They’re both so beautiful and your planning book is so well detailed and wonderfully made. Thank You Thank Thank You.
I must admit I do like John’s layout. He’s not overthinking it like the rest of us do. It’s a bit like watching kids playing with colours and patterns, they just do what they like! The evil chuckle sounds like Gizmo the African grey parrot!
Tell John he inspired me to lay out my flying geese all wonky as he did in this video. Like Kate, I love bright fabrics & even used all greens as my sky as you did. For the geese lavenders & reds all Kaffe. I added a 4” solid red border & backed w/a small purple Kaffe backing & bound with the same. A fun, bright 68” square quilt that will always remind me of John sneaking in & shaking up your blocks. 😂
Watching this for the 3rd time Kate and Anna mostly because Dustin Hoffman's voice narrating Harry Nilsson's 'The Point' always plays through my mind when Kate says, 'It is nice to have a point'. Cheers! I so enjoy your videos, thank you.
I have found your videos very therapeutic in an otherwise emotional year …. Just listening while I sew and hearing about life at the Last Homely House is comforting because nothing is rushed, there is no sign of the outside world most of the time and your contentment in being creative and enjoying your outdoor spaces makes me realise that I can do the same too. Thanks Kate 😊
When I started my first major quilt project, it was a sampler quilt block of the month project. I think I cried three times during the construction of the initial block because of the flying geese. I wasn't the most accurate, didn't know how to square up my blocks and the pieces of material frayed and got smaller and smaller as I ripped them apart with each set of errors. A friend finally rescued me, showed me what to do, as did the lovely folks at the quilt shop where I had to got to get more material for that first block. By the end of the project I was a master of the flying geese. The whole quilt is bordered with them and I got a lot of practice. I even lost a strip of seventy or so and had to remake them! I probably should dislike them after that initial project but I don't! I enjoy making them now and have made them four at a time when I can!🙂
How exciting! The creator of Block loc rulers was in my quilt group, that is until her business took off and her time got precious! So exciting to know her product made it “across the pond”.
It's really interesting how many different "feels" the same block can make: contemporary, scrappy, old time, whatever - just by how you line them up! What fun. But going back to color choices changes it up as well: how different green goose on pink would be & how lots of prints change the look from solids. That design board earns its place always. John's silliness really made me realize how the art combines with craft!
John's antics crack me up. I saw something in a magazine that I think he would really like- Find an inexpensive basket with gaps in the weave. Make a little roof for it and run some twine thru both to hang it from a tree. Put thin strips or selvages in it and pull some ends thru the gaps. In the early Spring, birds will pull them out to make their nests with. How pretty that would be!
Your videos always help me to relax. The soft piano music, your soft English lilt, the sweet cup of tea... whatever it is I find you calming and peaceful. Thank you
kate's beautiful spirit + anna's musical genius + john's evil chuckle = the very most relaxing afternoon I've had in over 3 years. can't wait for my copy of "kate's book" to arrive 😊❤️
I love John's layout of the quilt! That reminds me of when I would crochet scrappy afghans and I would tell my children to just grab whatever colour they wanted to add next. They are much better at being random than I am.
I love your house, especially all the windows letting so much sunlight into your rooms. I have taken a few photos from several of your videos because all those sunny windows with their colorful curtains, and the quilts-in-progress, WIPs, on your walls and the finished quilts on the beds make a very cheerful sewing space and an overall delightful house! I just like to save those lovely, happy photos to look at often for a “shot” of endorphins flooding my brain. Each of your rooms is a work of art in itself!🥰 I did enjoy John’s fun at the end, to “save you time,” and him tossing the two “extra” blocks which “she’s not going to need anyway.”😂😂😂
Haha, oh my. John is a great quilt designer! I loved how he didn't stress, he just laid them out. And then tossed the 2 left overs. haha. It looked great. The design book looks wonderful as well. Maybe for my birthday this year...and my calendar of course. Till we meet again. Have a wonderful week.
I love the flying goose block, too. And I've been meaning to tell Anna a big thank you for the great music in the background that she always picks out. So soothing and relaxing!
Flying Geese are my favourite I think! I'm a new subscriber, and just love following along. Its like coming home and feeling comforted with tea and quilty goodness!! Your music is always so lovely!
"Two leftover she's not gonna need..." Sure John, better not throw anything out!😉 Your mum would be on your case, 😏😸 Love seeing the whole family here, Kate.❤💕💕
I don't quilt much, but I do enjoy watching you do it, Kate. Anna's music selections are exquisite -- I can listen over and over :) And everybody needs a John in the family to keep things happy!!
What a devil John is🤣🤣. I love all your fabulous fabrics, such gorgeous happy colors together. I love both designs very much, but I think John’s is just tipping the scales 👏👏👏
My son Matthew can be just as mischievous as John when left to his own devices and unsupervised lol. So I had a much needed chuckle at John's antics. Thank you for the humor, John. And thank you, Kate, for including it.
I made a flying geese quilt after watching your earlier videos. I did the Dutchman' Puzzle arranglement. I used up a lot of scraps. The long arm person used a meandering all over design and I love it. So many memories with all those fabrics.
Love the pink and green combo - so vibrant, fresh and sweet! 😍 The design book is such a great idea. Loved the fun of John having a go laying out the quilt. 😄
Luv yr book and quilt! John's so funny. So glad Anna's doing quilting with u. It's very special. I don't live by any of my kids so don't get to sew with them. I noticed yr pink glass on the table. I collect pink depression glass and I have both old and new. I love it so. I also collect some jadeite and I have the gold, pearl white, and blue Fire King. I luv those as well. So glad to see u and luv the book. Good idea, Kate. Luv you and all. Still waiting to see Anna's finished quilt. Bless u all and yr furry buddies as well. Hope all are well? Delia, Oreo and me. 😺🐈👵🧸🥰🙏
John definitely has his mother's creative spark! Love his layout and the music in the background. It feels good to see this family's work. Kate you all feel like close friends and are a joy to watch.
Haha, cheeky!! I take colour photos of all of the layouts that I try. It's amazing to see how different a quilt can look through a lens vs the naked eye. I sometimes change my mind after looking through the pictures.
John's layout is quite interesting. Sometimes my husband with get at my design board and "try his luck". He also says I over think my design too much.🤨
Oh my Kate you make it look so easy ( the skills of a professional ) Anna’s choice of music is beautiful The book by you & both daughter-in-laws is genius for quilters ( not me) but I appreciate how useful it will be Thank you team homely house 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Love cheeky John

It was a challenge because of my big fingers. Its hard to handle such small pieces but it was a lot of fun. John is hilarious! I always gray scale my quilts. Makes it nice for balancing the colors throughout the quilt. John made me laugh when he threw to two blocks out 😂❤
John's layout gets my vote!!
I actually quite like it but not him throwing the last two aside!
I like johns layout to x
@@margaretberryman6260 I laughed out loud when he tossed the other two aside !
Great layout John
Il liked it too 😂. Sometimes chaos and irreverence are the answer

The amount of mischief in his eyes when he mixed up your design 😂😂😂 I do like it, though 😊

Your son John is so fun!! I so enjoyed watching him quilt with you.
Yeehaw! From southern US😂
The variety of not only color and pattern, but of direction as well - fascinating.
What a goofy son! I loved that he was willing to try his hand at designing. I liked his haphazard design.
I didn’t realized how much I’ve missed watching John! 😂. I hope we get to see Kate’s reaction😂
That would be the Cherry on top💕🤣🤣🤣
How exciting! The creator of Block loc rulers was in my quilt group, that is until her business took off and her time got precious! So exciting to know her product made it “across the pond”.
Absolutely loved John helping with the layout, and his design is quite good. I'd loved to see your reaction to his "help".
John's artistic eye is shining
OMG, it goes without saying that I love watching and listening to you, Kate, but John's cameo appearance was THE BEST! 🤪
The green/red/pink and one direction pattern look like Christmas trees, I love it.
Just saw John’s layout. It’s perfect. He’s very mischievous isn’t he.
Okay, John now you've done it! Kate, make the blocks and turn John loose to do the lay-out. We all want to see a collaboration between the two of you.
John is a genius like his mother. I love how you three work together. Perfect teamwork. 😊❤❤
Quilt designed by John, sewn by Mum.

I love how you are keeping the same coloured geese in the blocks. It's as if each little family stays togerther.
Into the Naughty corner John. What a wonderful Mum you have she’s the best Crafts person I’ve ever watched.
Your John reminds me of my son David, one of my five. He would do the same thing to me when I am working on something. One has to really love him.
kate's beautiful spirit + anna's musical genius + john's evil chuckle = the very most relaxing afternoon I've had in over 3 years. can't wait for my copy of "kate's book" to arrive 😊❤️
John is so much like my sons.. we’re so lucky and blessed to have them. ❤ makes my heart happy 😊
Heehee! Perfect! What a hoot! Thanks, John! I just realized I was over complicating it! 😂😂😂
Such a satisfying little block. I made my granddaughter, just a few weeks younger than Agnes, a flying geese quilt!
I love John's layout of the quilt! That reminds me of when I would crochet scrappy afghans and I would tell my children to just grab whatever colour they wanted to add next. They are much better at being random than I am.
I like using the no waste flying goose block method. Haha, I actually like John's block arrangement. He's a rascal.

Love seeing the whole family here, Kate.❤💕💕
I love John's take on designing a quilt! What a nice surprise! LOL!
This will be beautiful!! I laughed so hard when John added his special touch!! 😂😂
So happy you're going to have your favorite quilt for yourself. ❤❤
I don't quilt much, but I do enjoy watching you do it, Kate. Anna's music selections are exquisite -- I can listen over and over :) And everybody needs a John in the family to keep things happy!!
I love John’s pattern selection! 🤣🤣🤣👍🏻
I like John’s pattern. 😂
John still has the little boy mischief! awsome
Lovely quilt. I like John’s layout. He thinks he’s messing with his Mum, but he’s doing a great quilt pattern! 😂
The red and green goose block reminds me of fall when the gees come just before Christmas.
Thank you Kate i am now starting my first flying goose quilt your teaching is 100 per cent brilliant
How lovely to see John! He is such a giggle!
Luv yr book and quilt! John's so funny. So glad Anna's doing quilting with u. It's very special. I don't live by any of my kids so don't get to sew with them. I noticed yr pink glass on the table. Such a great show. Love your planner and Flying Goose pattern. But I must say, John stole the show.😊
Its going to be a beautiful bright quilt, thank you for showing us how you do it. I love that your son is involved, what a treasure.
Hi Kate
Fantastic idea for the workbook. Ah...here comes John😎Never a dull moment😂💕
John! That wicked laugh at the end! 🤣🤣🤣
So WONDERFUL to watch you sewing again💕 I love watching your videos. Thank you for sharing! The lime green sofa is so cozy🥰
John, you’ve got the “magic touch”. Kate I really like the new journal🥰
I just love when John comes in and blesses us with his silliness! 😂
I actually love John's arrangement, it's randomness is very artistic! Bravo John!
I like pink and green fabric too! John has a nice way of laying out his geese. Love the grin at the end. LOL
I absolutely adore this block, flying geese are my ❤️ favorite ❤️
So pretty. John's a character. You have a good family. Thank you for sharing your processes. ❤
Great fun and actually I really liked John’s layout - he wasn’t bound by any “rules”. Brilliant x
John is so funny & very helpful!!! Have missed seeing him.
I like it when you sew 4 together...
😂 Great job John! I hope you help your Mom with a wooden quilt block this Christmas(maybe a Barn quilt). I love your videos Kate❤.

That's going to be gorgeous no matter which design you use. So glad I didn't switch off before the end. Kids! 😂

Kate, you really need a Sue Daly pink rotating mat to help you trim all those geese. Comes in two sizes and they are pink! You will love it. Brave lady to make all those geese! They are always a great challenge for me.
Love tuming in to watch, I love your approach to life and your craft. This new project is lovely, pink and green is a favorite combination for me. Looking forward to the finished quilt!
