Thank you for the lovely response to John making his first quilt! I am so proud of how he managed and I am glad you all enjoyed it. I wonder if I can get him to finish it now! xxx
Oh this is fun to watch. Memories of teaching mine to use the sewing machine. My daughter was less interested than her brother. He learned to knit, too! (They are now 43 and 42). Teaching my granddaughter from about 7 on was fun while it lasted. She’s now 15 and no longer interested. He’s getting it!!! His method of ironing cracked me up! The swipes 🤪
“Because I said so and I’m your mother.” I love it, and it’s probably a good thing that mother instead of wife is doing the teaching. Lovely, lovely video.
Boy I needed this today. My first night out of University hospital, after brain surgery, in a hotel a long way from home. I’m sitting here laughing for the first time in days, loving the humor, your family, the beautiful fabric, and can’t wait to get to my home similar to your cottage. I have another week to be here to get stitches out then I can get home again and back to my sewing. I should have brought my EPP or cross stitch with me but I didn’t know I’d be here so long. But watching John sewing blocks was just a wonderful idea. Thank you.
The joy of watching them playing and having fun is good remedy for our difficult times. Wishing you a good recovery, and hoping your surgery went well.💚
I know what you mean. The happiness and fun is often the fresh breeze we need to find the peace in our own lives. Much comfort and good health and healing to you from the States.
I don't know how I missed this. So adorable. Doesn't mattah. Is the quote for the day. The Quilt makers cringe, but the Mums hold their tongues and maybe their breath, hearts overflowing. Working together, priceless. I tried to put it into words and I'm not a mum but this was so touching and sweet.
Thank you Kate, John, and Anna. That was hysterical! I was laughing out loud and enjoying myself immensely. The love you all share for each other is so real and heartwarming. I can’t wait to see John finish his quilt! ❤
Oh my goodness, what an amazing Mother’s Day episode! How lovely to tutor John in the ways of sewing! I laughed so hard at your expressions, would he destroy your machine? Destroy your quilt? In the end you’ve a beautiful quilt and wonderful memories for you both. Look out Kate, John and Anna may eclipse you as the stars of the Last Homely House!❤❤❤
Fab bit of piecing there John, and an absolute lesson on how not to be paralysed by fear when it comes to the crunch of putting it all together. I love the end product. But my goodness I can see exactly what kind of toddler John used to be, and my respect for you Kate has increased a hundredfold.... :)
You are so right, each time he looks at this quilt, for the rest of his life, he will remember this day. And Everytime I see a flying goose quilt I will too.
My favorite video ever! I lost my adult son 2 years ago. I watched this through tears, smiles and laughter. My Sean and your John shared a particular sense of humor. Well done!❤️🩹❤️
Hi, I loved this video and watching John being so silly and loving. I also lost my adult son 2 years ago this month at 42, very unexpectedly. He had a wonderful, silly sense of humor and was also very loving. It's so great to see John with Kate! You too Anna ❤
So much fun and very supportive of you and your quilting. Your Mother and son relationship isvery special and full of love. Thank you for being a friend in my lounge when I’m feeling lonely and missing my sons xx
I loved John’s layout too. You did a brilliant job John! Sooo funny and a great pockle (Scottish word from a friend) to get it finished. Can’t wait to see John quilting! Thanks for a great laugh and Well Done You John 👏👏👏😂😂😂❤️
Kate, you are an amazing woman, mother, mother-in-law, teacher, patient, fun loving just like John, and just WOW! Awesomeness 😀 tears of happiness from watching this video. The geese are flying in their own formation, no need to be perfect😂 “Thank you all” for a great 33 minutes of my day!!!!!
How wonderful! Beautiful job John! I taught my son how to sew on my Singer Featherlight machine and his first project was a set of curtains for his bedroom. That was 20 years ago and he’s hung them in his bedroom of his new house!😉 I cherish that memory and have a picture of him so serious and with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth! Got tears in my eyes now how much I love that memory!!! 🥰🎉💕
That was a lovely video and when John mentioned that he’d clipped the edge off the wings I remembered my father did that to his geese to stop them flying away, so now it’s a perfect walking geese quilt. It was such an entertaining video. Thanks for sharing.
Great job John and Kate! I really enjoyed watching your joint quilt come to life. Well done to Kate for letting go and allowing the fun to happen. It's a great lesson to us all not to take ourselves too seriously and to find the fun in the end result. Such a special time together and congratulations on having a wonderful relationship. Great filming Anna too xx
I think you have created another quilter in the family. You’ll have to buy John his own machine now. It’s a delight to see John up for this, and I love how he teases you, Kate. What a lovely family you have, and what a lovely memory you’re making!
Well done John and that waz a lovely Mother's Day tribute. Kudos to anna who had the biggest smile on her face as the Wife who has a digger in the middle of her lounge. So laid back. I hope the end result is shared with us here.
What fun to see John sewing and enjoying it. You can truly see the love he has for you. I think he has done a great job. Now for the quilting John. Please make a video about his quilting. 😊. Kate I so enjoy your videos and wonderful ideas. I have similar ideas about quilting but I was afraid that it would not be lovely. You have taught me that if you think they’re lovey that is all that matters.
Ohh what a hoot 😂 John's a natural he did great on his first quilt. Flying geese is a tricky block to piece with all those stretchy bits, so he did a brilliant job 👏👏 and you're a great mum and teacher too!!! ❤❤
You and John have a lovely time together. What more could any Mother ask for. The memory of making this quilt will fill his heart forever. I love all the little tangents that occurred.
Loved his ironing technique. No stretching of fabric worry there. 😮Beautiful video. Well done John. Great first go at sewing. Fantastic display of patience Kate. Job well done family 😂
I found myself laughing out loud, the nice thing is that when you see him work you understand how difficult this is. When you make a quilt it looks so easy. So…, very instructive! Thanks 😀
I love that John just puts the blocks up with no rhyme or reason. I would spend hours putting them up and arranging them until they are perfect! And look, they are perfect! xxx
Loved this family video, especially when Kate said: because I said so and I’m your mother. 😄 I have grown up children and understand Kate’s frustration ❤
What a sweet Mother's Day gift from your son. Spending time on something you love to do. I love it! I'm sure that made you feel so special! As you are!
This was a fantastic memory you two made together, and what a fantastic mum you are. He is so kind, funny and a joy to be around. You must be so proud of all of your family. Such a precious thing to share with all of us. He has your gift of color and creativity. He will never forget this learning experience, and it may well open up a new passion for him and Anna to carry on in creating fabulous quilts at home also. What a gift you have given them. Teach a man to fish and he never goes hungry, same thing with creativity. It opens up the soul!
We've lost a lot of integrity in our seams ... LOL! Corpsing here! He's not a bad lad, though! He loves his Mum enough to take himself well out of his comfort zone.
I loved this! "Because I'm your mother and I said so" was priceless". I liked too when he pretended to blow his nose on the last piece. This was too funny but it will be a memory you guys won't forget.
This is the most mother-son thing I've ever seen. 😂 There's so much undercurrent of all the years together, and all the things you don't need to say. I giggled at your reaction to his brattishness. Now I miss my boy and will have to annoy him at his college!!!❤
Many years ago I was teaching quilting and beginning sewing classes, and a man came in and explained he had built a Kingsized bed of mahogany and done some beautiful inlay designs. So he asked his wife to make a quilt. Her answer was not what he expected, and he came in the store and was directed to me. The first question was, "Do you have a sewing machine?" I then asked if he planned to do a lot of sewing or just this project. He said know and I recommended a Kenmore as I knew them well and he wouldn't have to lay out a lot money. We picked out fabrics and necessary notions. Next class he comes in and starts cutting away. He needed no help threading the machine and made his first block. The next week he came in and the whole top was assembled. Everyone in the class was flabbergasted. So I showed him the directions on how to sandwich the top, batting and lining. Nest week it was completed. He did have it quilted by another. He brought it in the following week, to all kinds of ooooooohhhhhhhhhhs and aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhs! I never saw him again.
This video just kept getting better and better !!!! Thank you Anna for your behind the scene work. Great editing. Thanks for leaving the camera run a few minutes longer. How priceless !!!!
🤣🤣🤣OMG, John just learned something that looks easy from a distance is much more difficult once he actually did it himself. But I will say his haphazard way of putting the pieces wherever was brilliant! He didn't stress by overthinking the placement. This can be quite freeing when being creative. I noticed that when looking at John's quilt, the individual pieces/geese drew my attention instead of the overall look/feel of a piece that was well planned out. Both methods make beautiful quilts.🤗
I've never giggled so much nor felt so tense at the same time! I have a daughter who approaches things rather like John and while I adore her sense of adventure, it can be a bit scary when she gets near my equipment...... Oh John - you are wonderful - thank you Kate, for sharing your wonderful family - and the head rub, I was waiting for that.... Happy Mothering Sunday. xx
Oh my, this was sooo much fun to watch!!!! You can definitely see the love between you and how much fun you have together. I definitely felt the "anxiety" you had when trying to teach him how to use your machine and trying not to do it for him. Been there done that with my son, only he used my machine when I was not at home and - HE DIDN'T TURN IT ON!!!. He turned the fly wheel by hand to sew his seam. I love John's sense of humor and not taking himself too seriously. Great little quilt.
I couldn't stop laughing along with Kate, John and Anna - especially when John was ironing at first. But as the video and the quilt progressed, I was amazed at what John accomplished and watching the 3 of you bond and make memories of your Mother's Day activity, then my laughter became happy tears. Be proud, John. You have now given me inspiration to get the ol' sewing machine out instead of watching others.
LOVE IT! "Because I said so and I'm your mother!" You are loving, so patient and a wonderful teacher. What a beautiful memory you and your son are creating.
This is absolutely lovely. A mother and her son, the love and patience. I felt like I was in a quilt lesson with my own grandma. You are a fabulous teacher, more for us newbies, please!
How lovely to see your family . Lovely to see your son sewing . Men can do what is usually a womans hobby , my husband used to knit . Your son did a good job , seems a natural . Love your videos .
John “presses” the fabric like he’s applying stain. I loved this. Such fun memories made. So much learning. “With great power comes great responsibility.” I love John’s eagerness, initial impatience, and then care and attention to detail. Getting sucked in. ❤ Great guitar music, Anna. “We are not about perfection.” Kate, brilliant idea to sew these together John’s way, with John, on Mother’s Day. The best. I adore you guys.
Oh, what a jolly video to watch! I love it when John pops in and what a treat to see him learn to sew! Naturally, since he's your son, he caught on quickly and then everyone had to embrace the chaos! I feel like John must be one who makes everyone laugh and he's a delight. Thanks for sharing a fun Mother's Day post, Kate!
So cute❤, so funny😂, loved the interactions between all of you. Such a sweet, sweet family with loads of talent. John did great for his first foray into quilting🎉.
Kate and John! My favorite video ever from this channel! Every mother of sons can relate to this. My son also has a great sense of humor. He can always make me laugh.
this has to be one of the very best videos yet...and seeing John step up to the plate and tackle the "machine monster" was hilarious... being creative and "thinking outside the box"...good for you all, for being funny, creative and daring... bravo!!!!
I needed this as well! I’m giving a presentation tonight on a civil war quilt I found and am quite nervous. Thank you two (and three!) for distracting me, making me smile, and showing some beautiful, collaborative quilting, complete with troubleshooting!
If He s made a "wooden quilt" then firstly, he takes after mum, after all, and secondly, this is a cinch in comparison! 🎉He s great! Well done, you❤yeah, we want more of this lovely family time. Really great. John is good fun
Thank you Anna for doing all the wonderful filming for us to enjoy. You are always so sweet and patient. You and John are such a loving couple as you show love for your family.
Kate, Thanks for the laughs. I needed that today. John did a fine job for his first quilt. It was a tough one too for the first time. All those points. Beautiful fabrics and it will keep you warm when finished. All good 👍.
Thank you for the lovely response to John making his first quilt! I am so proud of how he managed and I am glad you all enjoyed it. I wonder if I can get him to finish it now! xxx
Um abraço desde a Ilha da Madeira Portugal 🙏🏼🇵🇹❤
Oh this is fun to watch. Memories of teaching mine to use the sewing machine. My daughter was less interested than her brother. He learned to knit, too! (They are now 43 and 42). You sometimes sew a single layer to prevent fraying!
Your fans demands it! 😅
Yes please bring John back next channel how to put together batting, backing and binding. He's pretty funny man. Good work together!😋
“Because I said so and I’m your mother.” I love it, and it’s probably a good thing that mother instead of wife is doing the teaching. Lovely, lovely video.
I love it..I’ve said that so many times 😂
This would be my son and me....😀😀!!!
Love your family dynamics, so entertaining and fun to be a part of your projects 👏👏👏
You are two lucky women to care for and about eaçh other so very much.
Applause for John!

Wishing you a speedy recovery and many quilts to create.

Sending healing prayers for you Gail. 💗💗

Omg, this is hysterical! I love how grown children just revert back to small children when they’re with Mum! Xo
I think John may be like this all of the time!! I'd love to see more of John!!
Exactly ❤
What a lovely video your son has a great sense of humour like his mom 👍😊😊
What a happy family!!!
Longing for the days on our farm, when all was still alive🥲🥲🥲
Blessings to all!!🎊🌹🎉🌺😀🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Thank you Kate, John, and Anna. That was hysterical! I was laughing out loud and enjoying myself immensely. The love you all share for each other is so real and heartwarming. I can’t wait to see John finish his quilt! ❤

Fantastic John! And he was singing at one point! Well done Mum! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
What a kind and loving son. He is spending time and making memories that will be a part of his quilt.
You are so right, each time he looks at this quilt, for the rest of his life, he will remember this day. And Everytime I see a flying goose quilt I will too.
“Because I said so, and I’m your mother.” 😂 Classic motherly love. You and your family are absolutely delightful! ❤
This is the BEST quilting video I've seen. We all should take some time to be more "carefree" in our quilting. Great job, John.
What a great sport your handsome son is, really enjoyed watching this video. Possibly your best Mother’s Day yet.
My favorite video ever! I lost my adult son 2 years ago. I watched this through tears, smiles and laughter. My Sean and your John shared a particular sense of humor. Well done!❤️🩹❤️
RİP😢❤
So sorry for your loss. May his memory be a comfort to you. I’m sure you can feel him there watching over you Stay strong.
Sorry for your loss, sounds like you have some lovely memories. Bless you. 💕❤️
Hi, I loved this video and watching John being so silly and loving. I also lost my adult son 2 years ago this month at 42, very unexpectedly. He had a wonderful, silly sense of humor and was also very loving. It's so great to see John with Kate! You too Anna ❤

When he rubbed the top of your head and your smile, it was a priceless moment. So sweet.
My 9 yr old grandson rubs the top of his grandad’s head just like that. So endearing.
Thank you John..you did a wonderful job of a difficult pattern..
Awesum job Kate..raising such a wonderful man 😁
The early quilting where Kate can’t bear to watch … 😂😂😂😂 …. Every parent ever. ❤
That one is going to be so precious one day John 💖
"Because I said so and I'm your mother" the most authoritative statement that ever existed 😆. Thank for the fun. ❤ 🇦🇺
So much fun and very supportive of you and your quilting. Your Mother and son relationship isvery special and full of love. Thank you for being a friend in my lounge when I’m feeling lonely and missing my sons xx
I love Kate’s mix of pride and exasperation with John!😊
. Kate enjoys John's mischievous actions. It is such a joy to watch the mum and son. [ Hello from Australia ]
Apparently it's a universal rationale - Because I said so and I'm your mother !!!!! Love you Kate and your family,
I loved John’s layout too. You did a brilliant job John! Sooo funny and a great pockle (Scottish word from a friend) to get it finished. Can’t wait to see John quilting! Thanks for a great laugh and Well Done You John 👏👏👏😂😂😂❤️
John says, “Does it matter?”
Kate, “Yes, it does!”
John is a good sport.
Уже добре коли мати і син роблять щось разом, ще справжня родина. Молодці! Ви дуже гарні у своїй любові і турботі один до одного.
That was a lovely video and when John mentioned that he’d clipped the edge off the wings I remembered my father did that to his geese to stop them flying away, so now it’s a perfect walking geese quilt. It was such an entertaining video. Thanks for sharing.
😂 walking geese, that made me chuckle! x
Oh Kate….. that has to be the funniest video ever….such fun to watch you and John together… can’t wait for the hand stitching.🤣🇺🇸
Oh, you patient, patient woman! And you didn't try to strangle him even once! 😆🤣🤣🤣It's a video and quilt he'll treasure for his whole life! Nice!! 👍
I have literally ‘laughed out loud’ watching this. What a wonderful afternoon you’ve had 😊😊
John will remember this day always. He is a hoot. It is hard to let someone else touch our machines. Good job, Mom, fixing everything.
Lovely, thank you for sharing such a beautiful relationship with the rest of us.🥰💞
I think you have created another quilter in the family. You’ll have to buy John his own machine now. It’s a delight to see John up for this, and I love how he teases you, Kate. What a lovely family you have, and what a lovely memory you’re making!
This was the best! I enjoy all of your videos and your family is so lovely. 😊

Oh my gosh what a treat! John is so funny. I can't imagine raising such a rambunctious child. Well done Kate
Ohh what a hoot 😂 John's a natural he did great on his first quilt. Flying geese is a tricky block to piece with all those stretchy bits, so he did a brilliant job 👏👏 and you're a great mum and teacher too!!! ❤❤
Who needs tv when we have the Kate and John Show.(to say nothing of Anna). A lovely time on the LGS Cheers from Melbourne
I give you Thumbs Up John. Your quilt is going to be beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
If men could only just think of a sewing machine as a ‘POWER tool’, they could allow themselves to love it.
John is such a a great sport!!!Quilter in the making!🤗
You and John have a lovely time together. What more could any Mother ask for. The memory of making this quilt will fill his heart forever. I love all the little tangents that occurred.
The best Mother's Day ❤️ 💖 ♥️
Hi Ann, how's your day going with you?
I LOVED this video! How fun to see John sew and tease you. John, you’re such a good sport. Bless you for being a good son. 💖Patricia 87
How ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE and wonderful! Such a joy to watch you Kate with your son John! The quilt is fabulous just the way it is!!!
Loved his ironing technique. No stretching of fabric worry there. 😮Beautiful video. Well done John. Great first go at sewing. Fantastic display of patience Kate. Job well done family 😂
You have raised a genuinely nice respectful son …..what an awesome Mother’s Day Gift😊
What a delight 😊 So lovely to see John and his mum interact with each other and.....didn't he do well 😂 xx
Another day of fun and laughter with the Kate and John Show. Delightful and funny. He must have been a handful when he was younger.
As you are!
Hi Shari, how's your day going with you?
Thank you all soooo much. You made me smile all the way through. Well done Kate for holding back and letting John design/explore. Fantastic ❤ 😻👍
This is the most mother-son thing I've ever seen. 😂 There's so much undercurrent of all the years together, and all the things you don't need to say. I giggled at your reaction to his brattishness. Now I miss my boy and will have to annoy him at his college!!!❤

Great story! Apparently he was quite happy with his quilt. 😊
Great story! Did you ever get to see it completely finished? And on his bed?
There's always a "first time" for and in everything👍💐🤗🤗
This video just kept getting better and better !!!! Thank you Anna for your behind the scene work. Great editing. Thanks for leaving the camera run a few minutes longer. How priceless !!!!
Tears😂 I’ve not had a laugh like that in a long time. You’re a good sport, John.
As a mother of grown sons, I must say this was one of your best videos yet!!! The love between you & your son shone through!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Christine, how's your day going with you?
Thanks for the thumbs up, how are you spending your spare time?
What a grand video! You and John made my day!! Thanks for the smiles and happy memories ❤❤❤
Oh Dear John … such a character & a man of many talents but best of all … loves his wonderful mum! What a treat for us all. xx
🤣🤣🤣OMG, John just learned something that looks easy from a distance is much more difficult once he actually did it himself. Hi Mary, how's your day going with you?
I’m getting the biggest kick out of this video. Tks, John you are a fabulous quilter. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Hi Jennifer, how's your day going with you?
So cute❤, so funny😂, loved the interactions between all of you. Such a sweet, sweet family with loads of talent. John did great for his first foray into quilting🎉.
John you made us happy and smile but more importantly you made your mom laugh and she loved having you enjoy her craft!! You’re a good son!!
Kate and John! My favorite video ever from this channel! Every mother of sons can relate to this. My son also has a great sense of humor. He can always make me laugh.
this has to be one of the very best videos yet...and seeing John step up to the plate and tackle the "machine monster" was hilarious... being creative and "thinking outside the box"...good for you all, for being funny, creative and daring... bravo!!!!
Yes!! Would love to watch John "stitch in the ditch!" 😄
Absolutely charming 🩵 video, you guys-- thanks so much 🧵
John! First rule of quilting---NEVER POINT OUT YOUR MISTAKES!!! Very well done, good on you for being willing to try, very beautiful quilt top.
This video is priceless - the vagrant geese in particular. Thank you Kate!
Taught my son to sew, cook and clean! He loved being creative!
I needed this as well! I’m giving a presentation tonight on a civil war quilt I found and am quite nervous. Thank you two (and three!) for distracting me, making me smile, and showing some beautiful, collaborative quilting, complete with troubleshooting!
This was the most enjoyable video I have seen. Thanks to mum and son John. Wonderful quilting ❤
Wonderful, funny video. John the quilter, so much fun. Happy Mother’s Day.
This is the most stressful and the most joyful quilt Kate has made.
I loved it !! I cried at the end! Memories is what it's all about! Great job John❤
This has got to be a family keepsake. The chatter, the love, the endless smiling. What a beautiful gift of a day. Thank you Kate, John and Anna❤️
Thank you for sharing a fun/ joyful moments with your family in the sewing room.😂🤗
I love how John teases him mum. 🥰
All good 👍.
