Soulful. Buoyant. Explorational. Those are the 3 words that encapsulate most ENFPs I know.

This won't hold for all ENFPs, but definitely a trend that I think can be seen in ENFPs is their ability and drive to inspire. I think there is so often this picture of an ENFP that goes through life just trying to collect experiences for themselves. But Heidi really demonstrates the capability of the ENFP to see the possibilities of people and help them reach something greater. This is an ability so often given to the ENFJ, who is masterful in communication to motivate. But the ENFP just knows how to connect with someone in such a way that inspires them to grow, and they will get in the middle of the process
I think an interesting distinction between you two that you helped illuminate, Joyce. The INFJ is tuned into the information of people around them, their energy, their feelings, and they work with That, as if the person is fluid and changing, because what is seen is their thoughts and feelings.
The ENFP seems to view a person more as a whole, see their "person", and so they are more interested in what that person is and can become, not as much how they are thinking and feeling.
The ENFP needs to stop being painted as this personality striving to just "be me and free", but someone who likes to understand possibilities of people and has the capacity to precisely inspire them to become more than they were the day before.

My favourite thing about Joyce is how she's bringing all these different and interesting perspectives into one place with these interviews. She's doing a great service to the MBTI community and I really appreciate these long and rich interviews.
I love the variety within each type that I get to witness and experience. It's helping me in my personal quest of trying to understand the cognitive functions so I can understand myself and others better. Thank you Joyce (:

Gahhhh Heidi is the most relatable personality I've ever come across in my whole life! As an ENFP 8w7 tritype 862/863, I can relate to the things she says like 90% of the times, which is the most I've ever felt relatable to someone! Thank you for conducting these fascinating interviews! It feels so good to feel understood for once.

ENFPs are truly amazing people, my personal favorite of all the types. Aren't they everyone's favorite type? I mean, what's not to love?? :) My daughter is a college aged ENFP, and while she provides me far more stress than I was anticipating trying to keep up with her, lol, she is also an incredible source of energy, compassion, and joy in our home. I was so fortunate to have two incredible cousins to grow up alongside with who are ENFPs. Such close friends and cousins...INFP/ENFP bonds among family are so strong, was so fortunate. Anyhow, had to leave my .02 while thoroughly enjoying the first few minutes of this interview with Heidi. Already a dandy. :)

My one of my best friend's daughter is an ENFP, and watching her grow into a young adult has been a privilege. I've been amazed by her logic and halarious statements, and both her and her sister(INFP)'s creativity...She is just so funny, I find myself always laughing. I need to find an ENFP friend.(ISFP)

I have only watched 2 minutes of this, but Joyce you are so adorable. And it's scary how Heidi is saying the same things that I've said in the past haha. Heidi also acts a lot like an ENFP girl I met last year. I agree with what she said about being random, I don't think that I'm random but I understand how others might think that I am sometimes, it makes perfect sense to me though and things that I say are usually connected to something else in some way which may seem complicated for someone else but it does make sense XD My mother (an INTJ) likes to say that I always have different phases with something that I'm obsessed with and then move on to the next thing, well it's true but it makes sense why I'm so interested in that particular thing during that time and I gain a lot from that! I relate so much to the things she is saying here, like with the thing she said about feeling fed by information. It's so satisfying to understand the world around me, when I finally feel like I understand something, I get so incredibly happy by that, almost euphoric in a way actually. But then there's always new things to understand, and I move on to the next thing. I am really liking these long videos that you have Jocye, it's so interesting to hear all these people explain the way they are! (I've watched more then 2 minutes now and I keep writing something as I watch this haha...)

    • @JoyceMeng22
      @JoyceMeng22  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

haha you're so sweet, Golden Phoenix. I'm happy you enjoy these long videos. :) yep exactly, how ENFPs are perceived by others doesn't always reflect the ENFP's internal experience. What may seem random to others, makes sense in the ENFPs mind. =]

My favourite thing about Joyce is that she makes MBTI tangible in a beautiful way. I am tremendously grateful to her for bringing the MBTI community together, for organising and leading these talks and panels, and for her, indeed, beautiful and concise summaries that are wonderfully insightful and often pearls of wisdom! Also, I love her energy; so kind and pure! :)

What you say about your ENFP friend around 29:05 is something i resonate strongly with,as i remember feeling the same way once before.
1:04:00 or so ... wow! Wall of text is very common for me! Btw,crying is a sensitive subject for me,as i have to calm myselg or be calmed because of how nervous i have been and can be.In fact,it is part of the reason i am watching this right now.

I just had to pause the video and say that I 100% totally relate to when Heidi talks about childhood and asking so many questions, and one of my earlier memories I have of feelings/thoughts I have is abuot the way things were done that just did not make sense to me. I would be asking my parents many questions about the why's and I still have memories of the answers I was given and still not making sense. Gosh, I am remembering so many instances of me asking the adults in the extended family questions, and they would fob me off with silly answers, and at times also laughing at the frequency of my questioning. I learnt very early on I had to observe much better than ask multiple questions. I also learnt that many people were more concerned about behaving a certain way rather than dealing with probing questions and thoughts rather than behaving in a way that was 'freer'.
And when the internet came about in my late teens, my mind began to sing!!! Finally a whole world of different opinions and ideas!

54:43 Haha, that's so funny - I mentioned this in my previous comment yesterday - promise I had not yet gotten to this point in the interview! But yes, Heidi is correct here, parenting an ENFP is definitely a HANDFUL! Y'all are absolute wild horses!!

  • @KatanaKamisama

45:56 Pretty sure that's Shakespeare with an ENFP twist.
56:40 As an Ni dom, the Ne dom types kinda annoyed me when I was in school because they would always ask questions in order to logically process the information. I understood what was going on, I just found it irritating that they were taking up class time to verbalize. Now that I'm older and not in the education system I value it more, because it forces me to use my Te to rationalize my Ni intuitive leaps.
1:07:22 INTJ gets that all the time too. If someone can't give me a "why", that is better than my solution to a given problem or system I tend to just do things my way.
1:22:23 Yup. Optimized systems frequently appear sub-optimal until you have firm grasp on all the factors that the system has to address. One of my fun things to do is optimizing character builds for MMO's or D&D, or really any system adjacent to an area of interest.

Omg, I adore you both!😍 I am a fellow INFJ, and yet I relate to SO much of what Heidi is saying: thought experiments, visiting a hill, endless curiosity, contradictions galore, wanting to understand people, looking at things from multiple angles. Do you study 4 sides of the mind at all? I am very confident in my type as an INFJ, after studying for several years. However, I am coming to the conclusion that I am either (1) a very shadow focused INFJ, or (2) just integrating all 4 sides of my mind as I mature. (I just turned 42, by the way.)
I started out life very in-the-box, but as I got older I started to question everything more, become more unconventional and reject the box.😜 I notice myself using my shadow functions more (Ne, Fi, Te, Si), although they tend to be more pessimistic and it takes more of my energy to do so. Do you ever notice this about yourself, Joyce? 🤔
