I love how Remedy are intertwining everything that happened with Max Payne in our world. They sold the IP and so could only obliquely reference him in an altered form, who has now become a "real" person in Alan Wake II when the likeness and voice of MP. It all dovetails perfectly with the real/fictional world of Wake. And it's great to have an interviewer who gets what's happening and is asking the right questions!
Awesome interview! Lots of cool lore details. Pretty sure Alan actually wrote Saga and Alex Casey into existence to come to his rescue. The Dark Place doesn't bring any old piece of art to life, it only does so with good art, good writing, etc. So if Alan wants to write his way out of it, he needs to do so in a way that makes sense and that is narratively interesting. Therefore, it would make a whole lot of sense for him to use an existing character like Alex Casey, because it would just be less work for him. We saw it in Control AWE as well. It does LOOK like Alan actually used an old episode he wrote for Night Springs as a foundation for the Federal Bureau of Control. Nothing confirmed of course, but it's fun to theorize.
Wow, they've talked about a ton more stuff than I expected them too. How does this interview only have 4 thousand views. It's like ten times the info we got in official announcements.
This is the lord of the rings of video games. Easily the best lore based game ever. My best friend has over 500 plus hours just on control. I cannot even physically express how hype I am for the future of remedy and everything they accomplish
The commentary for the first game was amazing, even in the original version, not just the remastered. Hope it comes later down the line. Great interview! Glad to hear more of a focus to tie the storytelling with the gameplay and not just to tell the story through cinematics like many other games do. The in game storytelling in Remedy games have often been great at that. The idle chats between characters, the scripted bits, environmental storytelling, the interstitials like TV shows. Excited to explore more of Bright Falls!
You managed to get a lot of new information out of Sam and Kyle that I don't think other sites really have, so good on you 😅 I wonder if it's because Sam see's you as a fan and revels in revealing exclusive information to those such as yourself than the professionalism of the press.
Love the nod to Twin Peaks on Sam's shirt, a big inspiration for Alan Wake. Also, I wish I could make out what Kyle's shirt is saying. I never looked at a screen so closely lol
I think it says "Makia Alan Wake II. Stories from Darkness". Looks like Makia is a clothing brand, so I guess there's gonna be some kind of collab. Doesn't look like it's been announced though.
Great interview! It seems to me that a sequel to Quantum Break could also happen and be connected "officially" to Control and Alan Wake 1/2 once they retrieve the IP rights as it happened with AW. I'm curious to know what Sam Lake would say in regards to this topic since Shawn Ashmore seemed very excited on Twitter about the idea to bring back Jack Joyce 🤔
I’m really intrigued to know is Saga Anderson going to be real or is she just another character Alan’s created. I have many questions, looking forward to this game !
i think is more like the dark place manifests alans imagination into reality. alex casey in his books died. but alex casey as a character manifested into the dark place. is still very much an alive character.. although there is a symbolic relation between max payne sam lake and alex casey. alex casey is still his own character. meant to either help or antagonize alans escape.
i was very worried with the trailers that alan was gonna get sidelined for saga. like truely worried.. after this interview..wow... so many fantastic ideas that both doesnt sabatage the best parts of alan wake 1. like the episodic format. but having 2 hub words. bringing back ideas from the scrapped first game. wow...a lot of my fears are quelled
Man, I didn't know you were Dan Pena's son, just a bit surprised because I randomly found that video, and I am wondering more about Dan Pena than this video hahahaha, I will watch it though.
I really have a hard time believing developers when they say "it doesn't matter if you haven't played the first game you'll still understand this one" because obviously they're not going to tell you NOT to buy the new game they've spent years making lol so it just feels like a marketing tactic to me.
Tbf they went out of their way to have you also being able to play as saga Anderson, think about it, playing from her perspective you basically know nothing about the previous events in alan wake and you are learning along with her, obviously it's better to experience them yourself in 1st game but it at least won't be much confusing
alan wake 2 for me like a red flag , and the ideology that remedy pursue in this game like pointing a middle finger to returning fans. those that having a crazy high anticipation for this game, please put your expectation low. for the fact that sam lake always surrounding the topic about saga anderson and mentioning about "more approachable for new gamer" and something like "its been a while since the first game" so 2nd character for introduction was necessary. think about it: alan wake remastered just came out 2 years ago, i can say almost everyone that interested in alan wake 2 is aware the story of the first game. so their motive is to compromise and pandering for new player and certain "party", thus saga is made for. they just want to find an excuse to make it seem reasonable, but not for someone like me with clear mind. i bet they can't answer truthfully about saga race swap and why she justified for 50% of the spotlight. and those trying to argue that white saga was only the "early concept" or dual story arc is early plan for alan wake 2 way before quantum break? please, it's been 5 years after alan wake release when quantum break first release, if dual story arc was already a thing during that time then black saga is what i'm gonna see not white saga in that supposedly "concept trailer". and story can be also ambitious with ONLY single narrative thread, like every other story driven game out there, but you can't see any story driven game with multi-protagonist and story arc that win award, because practically multi-arc story is splitting immersion and cohesion of story telling. dual story arc were all gimmick and overstatement from remedy. in fact dual story arc is not the focus here but the agenda they trying to push, they just pretend the idea seem vital but if you pay attention about "player can beeline one arc to the very end" then you will know dual story arc doesn't really matter here. there is evidence that remedy sidelined male character in their control game, all male character are either non important or are some villain. so if alan is getting sidelined in alan wake 2 are no surprise for me. i couldn't help but feel more and more less exciting when they mentioning more about dual story arc thingy, for me is absolutely not a faithful franchise anymore. it's just a product that exploit the titular character for attention but empower the female character. welcome to prove me wrong, because you won't see remedy to put a male protagonist to overtake jessi faden position. yeah, that's remedy.
Sam Lake's writing is what makes Remedy games so good... he is an amazing writer!
couldn't agree more

Yep, I thought about it almost in the same way. I guess we are on the right path.
Alan Wake 2 is gonna be a masterpiece.
Lake's commentary was actually the best feature of Alan Wake Remastered than the remastering itself. Hope they will add in the sequel
Wow, they've talked about a ton more stuff than I expected them too. How does this interview only have 4 thousand views. It's like ten times the info we got in official announcements.
Thank you. If you can please share this video interview.
Great interview, a lot of questions I personally wanted to know were answered in a way.
Most anticipated game by far
Same here
Appreciate Danny throwing to it Kyle towards the beginning. I was just thinking I hope they both get to talk, then Danny asked him something too!
It was important for me to have them both talk during the interview.
this game is gona be lit cant wait for the ost too
lmao the co-director is just smiling the whole time when Sam was talking about Alex Casey
I have never pre-ordered before, but AW2 is the first time im going to pre-order. Remedy has never let me down before. I'm so excited for AW!!!
After wait 13 years for AW2, i must say that this game turned out WAYY better than i could have ever thought! It's INCREDIBLE!!!
I can't imagine a Remedy game more ambitious than Control. This is exciting
I can listen Sam Lake speaking all days !
I would kill to have his accent. Shit could put me to sleep in a good way
How's his english? He has a finnish accent.
This is the lord of the rings of video games. Easily the best lore based game ever. My best friend has over 500 plus hours just on control. I cannot even physically express how hype I am for the future of remedy and everything they accomplish
Sam Lake is a bigger Alan Wake fan than Alan Wake fans are!
He knows him best of course
FANTASTIC INTERVIEW MAN! FANTASTIC!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@thedannypena Very friggin much! I loved the energy and all the details as a huge AW and Max Payne fan it was all I needed to geek out :))))
So excited sounds like quantum break with its twin narrative but with both stories being playable games

3:50 oh hell yes that sounds great
Amazing interview
I learned so much and I can't wait for this game
Thank you for this interview mate!
Awesome new details are in here!
Cant wait to hear what tracks they used! Been listening to the tracks in AW1 since release.
This is exhilarating! Get excited
They have to remake quantum break on next gen consoles too
Love the nod to Twin Peaks on Sam's shirt, a big inspiration for Alan Wake. Also, I wish I could make out what Kyle's shirt is saying. I never looked at a screen so closely lol

Quantum Break was amazing and I enjoyed Shawn Ashmore's performance in it.
Of course Sam is wearing a Twin Peaks shirt
They literally did everything to perfect the already intriguing world, this is just too much hype, can't wait for the release.
Ok
Awesome interview! Too bad any collaboration with Poets of the Fall wasn't mentioned. I guess I'll just have to prepare to be surprised 😁
Great interview! Pretty much asked everything I wanted to know haha.
Imagine seeing this dude walking down the street you'd be like wtf was that max payne and you'd tell your friends and nobody would believe you
Great interview and questions!

You and me both!
What's going on with the AMC tv series that was in development in 2022?
Man, this and Alone in the Dark back to back will make this a great October

That's not my father. Lol Google needs to fix that.
@@thedannypena Hahaha my bad
Sam appropriated the microphone XD
God I wish modern Remedy would remake the 1st game so badly…can you imagine how sick they’d make it
that's max payne

been watching your great content for a while plus I married your cutest cousin, hope you not mad :)
Multiple endings?
Mirra was here.
