  • This is personal video where I share where I'm at in my trans identity right now. I talk about internalized transphobia, why it's taken me so long to embrace the term "transguy" and how it feels to finally have done it.

I'm devestated over what's happened as well and it will really affect our whole community, but unfortunately it targets you more than me and I'm so so so sorry about that Purity! You are amazing and deserve so much better! 💕💕💕

Stumbled upon this as I’m beginning to try and dismantle my own internalized transphobia. Thank you for talking about your experience, it’s nice to know I’m not alone 💜

Thank you for telling us more about your story, Oliver! 🤩 Self-doubt really seems to be a part of everyone's journey in one way or another, so I really like hearing about others' process through it. 🙂

It's really nice to hear you expressing self doubt as part of your journey. Sometimes it feels like because we're subjected to so much scrutiny from the outside that we need to justify our own identities constantly. It's only natural that doubt creeps in as we question ourselves but that can spiral very quickly, and isn't something that's necessarily reflected in more mainstream trans representation.
That can be extremely isolating, especially if you don't have much of a local trans community to fall back on for support and guidance.
Glad to hear that you are firm in your identity while going through that 💚

Thanks for your comment. I agree that we don't share so much about self doubt generally, and I totally understand why. It was really scary sharing this video. 🌈

@@Queersoftheworld I can imagine so, I'm glad you posted it despite your apprehension
I think it's pretty uncontroversial to say that part of living in the society we have is a massive pressure to never appear vulnerable, but vulnerability is what draws ppl together.
You can see that in a lot of your work actually, many of your interviewees are involved in activism often born from a sense of shared vulnerability and a willingness to help each other overcome it together

I am so so grateful to you for the kind open and honest way you discuss and also interview other people. You are so clear, and I love the self respect you role model.. even though its I know its hard. Its unpeeling layer after layer like you said, it is like peeling a carrot! Suprising how many thin layers it takes to scrape away and get to the core.
Your story is very relatable, I've worked with youth, and what youve said is a very parallel description of how young people realise, and also older pre trans people realise and then take steps. Whats so healthy about being able to listen to each other is realising your not alone, actually someones natural personal journey is just like someone elses somewhere else in the world! Just the same, but unique still in those ways we each have our own life journey.
This chanel is so so valuable for the world, and I imagine its good for you to share too, thank you for making safe trans stories visible ❤ self representation matters alot🎉

Thank you Oliver for sharing your story. It can be a lifelong journey to shed all the layers of misunderstanding that have harmed us in the past, and also the layers of armor that have protected us in the past. I'm glad you're speaking about this important topic!

Thank you for sharing a bit of your story and experience with us, Oliver! The stories on your channel are so important and I can't wait until you have many more subscribers and viewers! I am privileged to have spent all of my adult life in NYC and San Francisco (where I still live) and am a cis gay man who has been immersed in the LGBTQ+ communities for most of my life. Here in SF I have been lucky enough to know a pretty wide range of trans folks including many transmasc folks. They have been gay, bi, straight, and pan, and having gender presentations from traditionally masc to femme to genderfluid. Thanks for shedding some light as I feel that even in the LGBTQ+ communities there is often confusion and lack of knowledge around these issues! Good luck with your boyfriend and thanks again for telling such important stories on your channel!

Thank you for sharing you experience with us Oliver 💖 Recently found your channel and what you are doing is so important. I grew up feeling alone and isolated and was made to feel more so by other people picking on my gender non-conforming characteristics and my sexuality. I think anything society wide or individually targetted takes a lot for us to unpack and reject its stigma. Congratulations on being able to do this and feeling able to share this with your viewers. Very proud of you man 👏

Thank you so much for sharing. I can totally relate and almost cried when you said something like „I deserve to be seen.“ 🙏🏼
I have made similar experiences throughout my life regarding liking feminine things and stuff … I only realized at the age of 32 that the discomfort I always felt is that I am trans. I‘m 34 now and starting with hormones this week.

My brother is gay and says queer is a slur, can you explain?

    • @Queersoftheworld
      @Queersoftheworld  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Gladly! Queer has historically been used as a slur and sometimes still is, in the same way as gay is sometimes used in that way. We, as the LGBTQIA+ community have a tradition of taking back the power of these words, by self-identitfying with those words and therefore make them harmless to us. With that being said, all LGBTQIA+ people have different relationships to certain words and while someone is perfectly comfortable being called queer or calling themselves queer, someone else might still find it hurtful to hear the same word.
Hope that clarifies it at least a little bit! 😊🌈

Vem du är som person förändras inte. Det enda som förändras är att du blir lyckligare. Och det ska ingen stå i vägen för.
