Take the thing apart and delid the CPU and GPU. Not a fun repair but if you want your ps3 to not crap itself it’s pretty much a requirement at its age.

I remember when this happened to my Xbox I'd just grab a hair dryer and blow cold air on it at point blank until it was cool enough to play again

Lol You said it sounds like a jet engine 😆🤭 I do think that it probably needs a little cleaning inside because of dust and stuff which will help that

Take it apart and deep clean it, its bad on the fan bearings to be spinning that fast.

Use thermal pad method for extra pressuring of CELL CPU and RSX GPU

that method has been proven to kill your PS3 quick BECAUSE of the PRESSURE to the CPU and GPU. overtime it could snap the CPU and GPU (or even immediately once you put everything back together). I would recommend delidding the ps3 instead (not saying there wont be any risk in doing this, but certainly it's better than using the method you mentioned)
