How To Make Working Water Dispenser - DIY Desk Water Cooler

- In this video I show how to make a water dispenser or water cooler. It works and made of regular stuff anyone can find at home! Super easy! Pour it with lemonade, ice tea or any other drink and enjoy!
For my DIY super-duper cool-cooler and beverage dispenser :) you will need:
Empty Pringles can
Empty Nutella jar
Empty toothpaste tube
drinking straw
THAT'S ALL!
Just few tips:
1. Make holes diameter equal to the drinking straw diameter (2 holes - 5 mm each, drinking straw - 5 mm)
2. Close the toothpaste cap tight!
How it works...
Well, hahaha, I'm not sure how exactly. I was just following my intuition when I was inventing it. But the main rule - the air, which comes through the drinking straw, pushes on water and it runs through the hole. If you will not close the toothpaste cap tight - water will drip. This means that air still can come through the drinking straw. Close it well - and the water will not drip! Amazing, isn't it?

After three tries, we got it to work. The trick was finding the right toothpaste cap. I found one that screws and flips open. I hot glued the threads because that's where the air was leaking in. I made it so that only the flip part of the top opens. It is air tight now and it works! It was a good science lesson about gravity, air pressure, and modifying procedure. Thank you!

I was absolutely OBSESSED with this for the longest time. I ended up making one, and it leaked a bit, but I was so proud of myself at the end 😭
For all the people that do make this just so you know when you use it for the first time after filling it up with water you have to run a little bit out so it'll pull a vacuum on the air that is inside the jar so it's better to have as a little air in the jar as possible but the straw still being above the water level. This also means to not take the cap off because that will just fill the jar up with air again

This is perfect for my room,it worked great! I would use it every morning and evening before sleep 😴 Worked perfectly!

Hello people who have tried this and failed at first I failed but when u hot glue the straw add more hot glue and build it up more it the matter of being air tight,and When u screw on the container with your drink make sure u screw it on as tight as it can possibly go also a matter of being air tight.but this project does work,and the results are great so if the project doesn't work the problem is air tightness so don't throw away your project just add extra hot glue and tightness and it will work great
I made so much hot glue on it but it doesn't work !
FlexRex Gaming it does work you should try seal your container like tighten the Nutella lid to the bottle and have your parents or someone super strong to close it super tight if it doesn't work let me know!

can somebody explain how this work? because there's 2 hole in the nuttella lid and 1 hole covered with straw and the other hole is not covered with something? but when she put the nuttella jar with water its doesnt spill??!(sorry if there something did i miss)

Firdhea 02 It has to do with Physics. First, imagine this: when you empty a full glass of water, the glass isn't actually empty, but the water in the glass has been replaced by air. In the same way, when you fill a glass with water, you actually replace the air in the glass with water. Now, a Nutella jar with the lid on it is air and water tight, meaning no air or water can get in or out. Also, water always wants to flow down, while air can go both up and down.
So when you poke a straw through the lid of a Nutella jar filled with water which has been turned upside down, and the top end of the straw goes higher than the water edge, no water will get out through that straw, but air could get into the jar through that straw.
Now imagine a Nutella jar filled with water that has been turned upside down, but with one tiny hole in the lid. Water actually wouldn't stream out through the hole, because there is no way for any air to get into the jar to replace the water. The tiny whole is blocked by the water, which air can't get passed.
But if you combine the straw through the lid with the little hole in the lid, water would stream out, because air will be sucked in through the straw.
Then why doesn't the jar stream empty? Because of the knob/cap on the straw. When the cap is tightened, it blocks the straw so no air can get into the jar, trapping the water in the jar. When the cap is loosened, air can get into the jar and water can get out.
Tadaa! Physics made you a water dispenser!
Firdhea 02 i think its water pressure like the straw is connected to the thing that spins the air goes threw the straw and into the water bottle on top so when you twist the cap the water will go threw the little hole, so twist it open the water flows when you twist it the other way it stops cause the air is trapped so the water is trapped there ya go😉

It worked! All you have to do is close the cap VERY tightly so the water doesn’t drip I had to do it twice for it to work

Wania Ahad the water does come out of the second hole because the straw is sucking up the air when the cap is closed but when the cap is open it takes the pressure off the straw so the the water come out of the second hole

There were two holes. The one with the straw helps the entire thing work. The other hole is where the water comes from. Trust me, I had the same question as you and had to rewatch the vid 4 times before I got it... XD

Ainsleigh Kemper I think it's surface tension keeping the water in, since it's so small. When you turn the lid, it lets air into the straw and from there, into the jar. Since the jar doesn't have enough room for the new air, it pushes the water out into the second hole.

Ok! I have to add my comment, I tried making it, my 1st one was Epic Fail!! I took it to the science teacher she guided me that the open hole in lid was way too wide because of which the water would not stop dripping!!!
So i made a new one with smaller bottle on the top and smaller cut in the lid and yes!! Do make sure that the nob is closed tightly!!
The tighter it is closed, the less water will drip or will not at all.
Can we use a substitute instead of washing and using empty toothpaste tube? 🤔
aamir mehmood I used a hotel shampoo bottle and it worked just fine. just make sure it is screw on and not a clip on clip off thing because it won't be air tight anymore.

Great idea! The only thing is the nuttela jar is not very big.... it would fill up maybe 10 mini dixy cups or 4 cups you can find at party city
