BRITISH AIRWAYS Negus 747 LAST EVER LANDING: FINAL TOUCHDOWN & SENDOFF - Kemble (Cotswold Airport)

  • British Airways Boeing 747-400, G-CIVB (Negus Retro Livery) made its last ever landing at Kemble/Cotswold Airport today after humbly serving for the airline for over 26 years. 🛬
    British Airways retired their last two Boeing 747 aircraft today, with G-CIVY heading to St Athan, Wales for scrapping, and G-CIVB heading to Kemble with rumours circulating that it may well be preserved at the airfield. Large crowds gathered to watch the Queen of the Skies arrive for the final time, however it was rather touch and go, with the aircraft holding for half an hour waiting for a gap in the weather. Had this break in the clouds come any later, the aircraft would've diverted to Cardiff, but thankfully the clouds parted and allowed G-CIVB to make her last ever landing. Due to the heavy rain all morning, the 747 kicked up a good amount of spray as it slowed down on runway 26. You may remember from when Corsair retired their last 747 the crew could be seen waving the French flag out the roof hatch? Well, a similar thing happened today, with the crew waving the Union Jack out the hatch as the aircraft was towed off the runway - a very poignant moment indeed. 😢 #BA747Farewell
    Video filmed at Cotswold Airport (Kemble) on the 8th October 2020. 🌍
    I hope you enjoyed my take on this special event, I am sure many of you have fantastic stories about this aircraft, maybe you worked on it or helped build it? Or maybe you just have fond memories of the British Airways 747 from trips to the airport? Whatever your story, I'd love to hear it in the comments section below. Please feel free to share the video and don't forget to hit the thumbs up too! 👍

    Can't help but think of all the man hours that went into it's designing, manufacturing & the amount of miles it's flown around the globe but yet a tiny microscopic virus is what brought it's legacy to an early retirement. What bizarre times we live in. Quite sad really.

    • @deanharrison923
      @deanharrison923 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True, but sadly the 747 days were numbered anyway. The virus just sped up their retirement. High fuel costs and consumers wanting cheaper and cheaper flights mean efficiency is the driving factor at the moment. Beautiful plane though.

    I don't usually get all misty-eyed over planes. However, something about seeing this iconic 747 landing for the last time in the old-style British Airways livery did it. Sad that these will never be seen in the skies again as passenger-carrying aircraft. Although, I believe the big courier's companies like DHL will still fly them.

I would always look up at any aircraft coming over, but I’d be transfixed whenever a 747 would come over the sky, some of my first flights were on a BA 74 and they just are magical. I flew on a BA 747 on my first trip to the USA in 1990. In those days you were still able to visit the cockpit (my Dad was an airline pilot) and I said to the Captain that my mum was flying out on an Airbus. "I feel much safer flying in one of these" he said. This wasn't long after the Kegworth disaster, hence neither he nor I were that keen on the idea of twin engined jets.

    A fond farewell to this workhorse of the skies. Thank you BOAC/British Airways/Boeing - for the countless safe deliveries to far flung shores. Exemplifying our shrinking world, with grace, elegance, and spirit.

    It would have been great if they had done a high speed low level pass as one last hurrah for the old girl. But great to see so many people came out to see her. And notice how everyone fell silent on her final approach... 😥

    My late fathet was Quality Assursnce for BOAC/BA and was one of their first engineers to work on these new planes. He went out to Seattle to train on them. I recall flying on one First Class as a teenager and enjoying the upper cocktail bar!

    So sad to see these magnificent ladies cease her operation in British Airways. They graced the skies with their elegance and beauty for several decades. Many would stop to see her go by. Really wish that BA had kept at least one or two of them in the skies.

    How very sad. Little did I know when I flew on her back from Las Vegas on Feb 15th that would be the last time I flew a BA 747. I upgraded to First using an Avios promo and I’m so glad I did. Grew up with these graceful birds as my Dad was flight crew (SEO) on the dash 100 and 200. Sad day.

    Showing my age, but I will always link Kemble to the Red Arrows when my grandparents wanted to try me on a day trip around the Cotswolds(not something any kid would want to do I imagine), they would always drive by Kemble in the hope we would see them back when they had Gnats

    I’m very sad to see BA retire all their wonderful queens of the sky. I had the pleasure of flying on that exact aircraft and I now think that it was one of the best flights I had ever had because (not only due to the retro livery design.) it was the last time I had and ever will fly on a BA 747. May she Rest In Peace and may her legacy be preserved and protected for future generations to gaze upon. 😪😪😪😪

      Same here, I flew on her back from Vegas last year. Sat up through the night watching fawlty towers on it’s small retro TV screens. Certainly didn’t feel like 2019 it was brilliant. Loved it. Sad to see it retired.
