Mad respect for Arenas being a parent when he’s watching the games. I’ve seen so many parents who never played team sports try to coach from the stands haha
So what it doesn't mean they don't know basketball you ain't got to be a rocket scientist to know
@@keepitastack4993 Whether they think they know it or not, don't coach from the stands... especially if you ain't never as much as break a sweat on a structured basketball TEAM
@@keepitastack4993maaan go to some of these youth games and see some of the parents that “know” basketball and yell “shoot it” soon as they kid touch the ball, then yell at em again for not shooting it. Then yell at em after the game only to not practice with the kid on their own 🤦🏾♂️
@dually81 😆 my nigga dats Cap...yea, playn the game at a High level could give you an advantage as a coach....bt, fr dat rlly dnt mean shit its hella Good Coaches who never played at a High Level...like; Gregg Popovich, Erik Spoelstra, Michael Malone, Frank Vogel & Mike Brown. None of them played in the NBA bt they are some of the best coaches, some didn't even play in College. Coaching is different, so ppl just can see the game different & some can do both fr....I was a 4 star recruit for the Class of 2004, UCLA commit. Bt, I cnt coach rn 😆 on the homies....I jus dnt have the patience, bt I can see the game different while playing then if u was tryn 2 coach someone....I can watch the game & see plays develop b4 they happen bt I still can't coach....& alot of these HS kids Ranked now, they parents was jus ppl that wanted to make the HS team & never did & now they coaching frm the stands & living thru they kids & they kids is ESPN, Rivals & 247 Top 100 Recruits.....bt, dnt git it fucked up not every1 should be doing it...bt, there are some that can....
@@TRiiiP_GanG_CapoPop_it_4_Cdubb I don't think you understand what "coaching from the stands" means lov'd one. If they can do everything you said they can do they need to put some skin in the game and sit they ass down on the bench and work wit the kids. If they don't have time to become a coach they need to wait till the game is over and coast their kids when they take them home. But until then let the coaches coach and you sit your ass down and watch the games as a SPECTATOR PARENT.
It doesn't matter how much anyone knows, if you're sitting in the stands, keep your opinions in the stands... that's the point, not whether they know the game or not.
his son is ranked #4. it works
Daaaaamn 👀.
Yup he knows what he's doing!
#1 at his position too
Rankings don't mean anything... that's hype...
@@khrisferguson6245means something in the scouting process right?

If you go back to Gils early early podcast days, he talks about how he specifically molded Alijah into a killer. Once he realized he had the love for it, he built the mindset first, then the skillset and legit molded a killa. Plsying against adults since he was a kid and all.
Agreed!!!!!! Couldn’t of said it better
Paul, could you please set the option to switch the English subtitles to Polish on the channel because I am Polish and I would really like to listen to podcasts but I am not very good at English and there is no option for me to give myself Polish subtitles yet
Thank you very much in advance
You are a great basketball player
Have a nice day and I hope you win your first NBA championship
This is a great suggestion! If you are watching on a device that allows you to install browser extensions I would recommend "Video CC Translator". It is not perfect but should be helpful.
I hope he reads this fr
Yeah I hope he sees this too
@podcastpshow
Commenting for it to be seen
Developing a good work ethic young will help translate to the next level with good habits
It’s shows that he practices and puts up 400 shots. Alijah looks like a pro. I just watched him dropped 52 points boy is on his way.
He should be dropping a 100 he playing against kids 2yrs younger every game good players challenge themselves and play up not playing down ..shit just stupid..I thought he son was ill til someone told me the real that he was older…foh quit cheating dog gone be 18 next year ..smh he gone be 19 playing against 14,15,16 yr old …weak super weak
Gil’s the type of dad to have you grow up rich but have you train like you tryna get your whole family out the projects..cousins and all
100.
Facts
I think that what these kids are missing today.
He’s blessed to have a father to guide him in this way and in life. A lot of young men coming up Hoopin never got what he’s getting from his daddy. Keep going king ❤
is it a dad that’s needed or someone, anyone present?
@@almadeunrebel it’s important for the dad to be there. It does help to have someone that isn’t a father to be active and present in one’s life. At the same time it’s not the same as having an active healthy father in the home. Hope that helps.
100% agreed. For whatever reason things just seem to sink in when it comes from dad.
@@almadeunrebelthe impact is greater when a father does it, its more authoritarian than when a mother does it. This, however, only relates to physical aspects, as a son wants to keep competing to surpass their father in a physcial aspect; the idea of proving something to them. On the flip side a mothers word towards a emotional aspect means infinitely more than that of a fathers.
Gill has a strong understanding of the mental side of the game. Amazing how the former players are coaching up the best talent we've seen but there are still so many in positions of power making horrible decisions.
His son is very talented. He’s very natural with his skill set nothing ever seems to be force. Very smooth with it. When their coachable it’s pretty uphill from there
downhill*
@@loganmcgee18he’s coachable that’s a good thing when he goes to college it maybe downhill
He is really good, seems like he is missing a lot of explosiveness imo but ill chalk that up to him being young.
They're *
This was dope, I now have an even greater respect for Alijah's game based on his work ethic...knew he could hoop just nice to hear these backstories. Good ish Gil!
His son is going to be a beast when he hit his senior year. I bet you will be number one player in the country
Regular kids dont stand a chance against these NBA kids nowadays. The knowledge, wisdom and training they receive at a young age has them miles ahead of the competition. The league is gonna be special in 10-15 years
The game and society is in a deep decline. They’ve bastardized everything. Wake up.
it's pretty much eventually just going to be a pipeline of nepo nba kids with like 5% being from non-professional basketball parents.
@@lebumjames1373 it’s the same way children of doctors and lawyers follow the same path. Once there’s a trail laid out it’s much easier to get to the destination
@@lebumjames1373i been saying that for the longest! Glad someone else sees it
This has been happening forever but diamonds will always be in the rough. Lebron and Jordan molded themselves into superstars. Kobe was the product of a professional ball playing dad. Jordan’s sons chose diff paths. Gifted players get it done simple as that.
Thanks for the clip!
My dad tried having me and my younger brother practice with baseball but we didnt like baseball at all. I hated going and practicing but later i told my dad i only played football and wanted to go to college to make you proud. I only loved running track but ended up partying and losing my scholarship. At 33 i look back and wish i would have put the effort in.
Yep you didnt wanna do it cuz your dad wanted you to its sad yall be lik3 that
Unless you was going to be a pro who cares. The key is being educated so you can make a good living. Balling and entertainment is overrated in black communities
You and me both. I was lazy
Kinda the same with me, I can play 4 sports at a high level so I never really fell in love with one specific one. Then my mom only had me in summer track and I hated just running and jumping only. I quit before I even gave myself a chance👎🏾.
Man I resonate with this, pops played basketball and my brother so I was forced, ended up getting a football scholarship just off my size and lost it not taking it serious now I wish I would have locked in
💯💯💯 well appreciated show💯💯💯
Soccer is actually the best sport for small kids. It teaches them coordination and all the things they would normally learn if kids played outside today.
This was one dope azz interview
Yep he gotta have that arenas work ethic
Lowkey that’s what bronny should’ve went thru instead playing with stack teams
Like his pappy😭 im jp I needed to get that joke off, hopefully bronny do get better though 💯
Bronny game is setup for a good team. Just like lebron games is to. Bronny aau team was his team.
@@mikeknowsbest4no it wasn’t
@@wordonthestreetpodcast5472bron has been the best player on every court he’s ever stepped on lol
@snipes1739 you know Gil trained Bronny and he talked about it on his podcast. Gil gives some great advice/coaching on how to train basketball players.
Great work to Gilbert!!
Work ethic is everything these days, especially with how many people quit when it gets hard.
Bro said he could dribble and no shot he was moving like Riley freeman
No cap his son is going to be better than Brony on everything
Likely true but its part of being an active NBA player vs being a retired NBA player. Gil has the time/hours to put in.
That's true. Bryce on the other hand. Is another story. Unlike bronny who's a streamer, ig personality. Bryce is pure ball. And he is skilled AF.
@@loristnorton3723bronny and Bryce definitely league but this kid will be a top 3 pick at 18-19 years old haha he a little different
ALREADY BETTER THAN THEM.
His ceiling is as high as Bryce, they are big guards that can do anything, they both will surpass bronny at some point
Gil good basketball knowledge from ground up, nice.
Respect man.... these kids today do not have a relationship with resilience and it shows in their lack of follow-through. His journey will lead to success in all areas of life 💯
Alijah is that kid for real...can't wait to see him get stronger 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
I have to applaud Gilbert as a father tbh. Idk how the hell parents be yelling out directions from the bleachers knowing damn well they never played the sport nor even sniffed the hardwood at all.
He was talking about Lebron💀
Thank u Gil
Drazen petrovic did it as a teenager . He had the keys to the gym

That comment about doing the same at someone’s job tomorrow was comedy😭😭😭
He has a chance to be a superstar im calling it now skillset and size Elite!!
Love seeing you ball pg 13 and. NOw with james harden orginally 13 my to favorite players on the same team love u guys keep it up get that ring from new zealand 🎉🎉🎉lets go bro let go
His son is going to be good in the league
His son is ranked 4th... He'd be first if he also did:
100 pushups
100 situps
10km run every morning with only a banana for breakfast
One shot man
NBA player for fun
Solo leveling
👊
@@pkmsd8291the opposite of Jokic
The insane workout and work ethic is cool but they also need to speak on proper recovery process to go with all that
There is none u just keep going
You do not need to recover from 400 shots.
It’s only an 11 minute video
@jwatson181 yes you do lol. All top these guys do recovery. It's just not the part people tend to care about
Great point
PG someone In the comment section asking for the option for Polish subtitles...great questions and good clip
I love how Gil is instilling the repetition side of work to develop habits and understanding of what he sees and have answers with his game. No doubt this kid can score! Great video.
Gil, have him try out the Manitou Incline for training!
My knees would snap in half if I sat like PG did this whole interview. Dude is built different.
So happy he is in his son life .
I never played basketball like that in school but I did do bowling for a few years, and one of the coaches was the exact parent that Gil was talking about, excessive and overbearing. His daughter averaged around 185, and at matches whether she made a mistake he'd be standing at the end of the approach waiting on her. You could tell it was just putting more pressure on her but he was oblivious.
kid is clearly thriving. ranked 4th in the country. worry about your own below average kids
Nah Gil funny as hell 😂
brilliant
Gil has a great way of teaching, always put the blame on yourself
Def using this for my daughter when she’s old enough
He's definitely more a father than a coach, but he can obviously & apparently be an outstanding coach he doesn't include his feelings he's honest & I Respect that !!
We need a Podcast P x Club 520 collab
I remember seeing KD sleep at the Highschool gym. After evening practice and wake up early morning to practice by himself
I played with Elijah at the cavs lmao
His son should be number 1 ranked for his class. He’s the truth!!! He might be a top 3 pick in theee years. He’s that good.
He might be.. rankings are just opinions.. we’ll see in college
Gil laid it out for real
What a blessing to have an nba Dad for reference lol
I needed this I have a son who just doesn’t know what it takes to play on a high level..
Gilbert, your son is the absolute best skill sets I've seen among high school students....he is excellent!! Still more work to be done in conditioning.....great job Sir.
Gilbert speaking facts. I would miss purposely to restart as a kid
Gilbert is one of the best basketball minds in the business
wow this is magic from him
Get it out Paul 😂, Struggled to start this convo
Alijah is tuff
His son is insanely good
The stuff Gilbert is putting his son through is the EXACT reason why Steph Curry is so great. If steph would have transferred to an ACC school after his freshman year he would have been a nice player but NOWHERE near who he is now. Him learning to deal with playing 1 on 5 and all the gimmick crazy defenses is why his handle and ability to get his shot off got to where it did. If his brother would have stayed at his school he'd be WAAAAAAY better that he is now. Going to Duke and standing in the corner waiting for open shots is cool and everything but the handle and creativity just died there.
😂😂”send the fax”
6:30 started w soccer
Booing your own kid is wild 😂 Gil a fool
Remember, Kobe played soccer before he played basketball. Steve Nash played soccer before he played basketball. Most Africans who made it into the NBA would tell you that before 12 years old, they mainly played soccer. Notice Gilbert said the son didn't know the game of basketball but could dribble? Yeah, that's likely not because there were balls in the house that he dribbled sometimes...Him showing potential with dribbling the basketball ball was most likely due to time spent playing soccer. It takes a greater level of coordination to weaze through opposition while controlling the ball with your feet.
Soccer translates very well to basketball. In fact, most soccer dribbles have their basketball equivalent from roulette, croquetta, shoulder drop, close control spin move, etc...
So, in the end, Gilbert's son actually got an early start to basketball because he played soccer
gil + alijah like Goku and gohan lol
Gil’s surgeon hooked that nose up!
Thought I was the only one who noticed that love Gil but that’s just self hate right there
Soccer is Great For Youth - Helps With Footwork & Endurance!
Gil sounds like Paul Mooney 😂
Did the kobe and bird workout plan
Didn't cha know
Damn I wish someone told me this my senior year
💯💯💯
Elijah is a real one.
You know how and why? He got Hils butter soft touch , that comes with GENETICS & WORK... & He is bringing back the NO SHOW SOCKS YO - He knows what its like to feel good, look good, play good and that is called the LATE 1990S-2000S people & the AND1 Era , TRUTH . All these SHORT SHORTS & WEIRD SOCKS OUT HERE NOW DAYS??? NAAAHHHHH - NAAHHHHHHH , ypung Frlla KNOWS WHAT TIME IT IS YO!
I dont buy into hype and im critical and particular about what i see in a player that I can tell pretty quick if he is DIFFERENT or just another Bronny James or Zaire Wade or whatever whatever.... "Pro Son Phenom" ; Not only is Elijah ELITE & I cant wait to see him in College,
He also isn't hype, he is a product of DEDICATED, HARD WORK, W/ the intangible skill, gift , the genes,
He has a FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND BASELINE & FOUNDARION that i see MISSING in allllll these other kids comin up. Elijah's Fundamentals are still being worked, tweaked, w/ transitions & adjustments every single couple months while STILL GROWING!
When he is polished, ready, & mature physically & mentally ....ohhhhhhweeeeeee he is gping to be fun to watch play in the League man. He already is a breathe of fresh air to listen to soeak, & aint on this LeBron Era B.S. like his peers, & THAT IS EXCITING TO ME!
Idk why but PG’s feet barley Bering on the table was giving me anxiety. Woulda told Gil to push it closer to me😂😂

🔥
Factz
Did Paul say his son is 2 and into basketball? That's crazy!
my kid is 1.5 and into basketball, they bounce and it's fun. haha
Gil is comedy😂
This why I say ppl that hate on Gil are clowns.. Gil knows what he’s talking about… He’d be a great coach in the nba
GIl has said in the past he would like to be an assistant or skills coach in the NBA. Just impart his knowledge. But nobody wants to hire him because of the gun thing. Blacklisted basically.
Gil would be an excellent player development/skills coach for a franchise but head coach? Hell to the nahhh lol
Eh, the NBA is a league with a bunch of grown rich men who don't like being told what to do. You can only be a great coach in the NBA if you have a squad that wants to be coached, like the Tim Duncan Spurs. Otherwise for the most part you just end up getting a good coaching gig like Doc Rivers had with the 08 Celtics, Steve Kerr had with Golden State and then getting the credit when they win
Imma have to steal what he does
Nba players sons is taking over more than football
Let’s trade PJ Plumlee and Coffey for Wendell Carter Jr. the lineup will be: harden, Powell, PG, Wendell Carter jr and zubac. Wendell Carter can sit in one corner alone spacing, harden at the top, Zubac center, and Powell and PG next to each other on the same side screen so one of them can cut . Wendell Carter will improve defense big time. And kawhi can play like a big guard in the other lineup a 5-out: bones, kawhi,Russ,Kai jones and Theiss.
His kid easily the best out of former players kids
My same philosophy
With all the people sprinkled out over podcasts , you gotta be a real goofball to say “ hey I wanna hear what Gilbert has to say today “ 😝😂😂😂😂😂😂.
Big respect to Gil fathering his son without the pressure of having to fill his shoes. He has potential to be better than Agent 0
He just explained Kobe’s issue.
His son is the next Paul George.

Some of these kids get tired after a small regular practice 😂 this boy is doing NBA workouts
Are you okay if he comes to you and says pops.... All I really want to be is a dancer.....
Wish my dad did this for me, now I’m just tall for no reason
He better train defense as well
Yooo Gil Alijah is nice be proud he's gonna deserve all of his accolades its gonna be organic it's not gonna be Gil is your pops its gonna be on Alijah's game and your can ball at his age his bag is more extensive than Lebron and Bronny....Bronny James will be like Jordan's suns running the family business
Bronnny isn’t a terrible player he’s just not going to be LBJJr of the nba and dominate like his pops but I believe he can be a All star and that’s about it BUT Bryce That kid got game
Can yall imagine an all NBA son starting 5 in the 3-5 years
