  • In this video I share my thoughts and first impressions on the 2024 flagship robot vacuum from Roborock, the S8 MaxV Ultra.
With new features such as FlexiArm side brush, massive suction power, a huge leap in VibraRise capability, an all new Intelligent Voice Assistant and hot water mop cleaning, it is sure to be one very impressive floor cleaning solution.

Great video. I gotta get to CES next year. Timing is just not great for me. Here is a question. Will the smaller version of the S8 dock that hooks up to your house"s plumbing have detergent injection as well?

I have cats at home, and my job keeps me away for 2 to 3 days. So the photo album feature is great so I can remotely check on the cats if anything may go wrong.

This seems to be what I’ve been waiting for. Two problems I have with my Roomba S9 is that is doesn’t pick up hard dog food. The nuggets seem too big and it kicks them around. I’m wondering if the Max does a good job of picking larger things up, also small pieces of paper seem to stymie the S9. Also, along the rug edges debris seems to accumulate and not get picked up very well. It also gets stuck on my heat registers, so does the roborock go over registers without getting stuck? Thanks for this review

Will it know its a ground level window and not think its part of the room and not have bleeding on the app maps?

I'm not sure about windows to the outside world. My guess is when the robot detects a mirror and the 'room' inside the mirror, and then realises it's overlapping into an already mapped room, it then marks it as a mirror and keeps the map tidy. For windows looking outside, there wouldn't be any overlap into an existing room.

Oh and great another robot vacuum that I will have to take a small mortgage to buy NZ$3k for the current S8, so I guess another $500 on top of the $3k?

From what I've seen the expected US pricing is $1800US, and I think the S8 Pro Ultra came out at $1600USD. So yeah probably around $500AUD/NZD on top of the S8 Pro unfortunately.

Problem is not just the price but the how long it will last before breaking. For that price vacuum should be 10+ years but robots only like to last a few years if that.

According to The Verge who are at CES
"Roborock’s Marcus Lai told The Verge that support for Matter is only coming to their top-of-the-line S8 MaxV Ultra initially. “We want our most powerful model to be at the forefront of this new and exciting technology,” he said. “We can’t rule out the possibility that more models will support the Matter protocol in the future.”
