How can you say that with 2 whole phases of unrelated (to both themselves, and the overarching story line) crap, a hype up to a true crime drama (that destroys your fictional superhero drama), and more homework per movie then has ever been achieved in cinematic history?!?!? I say that without even mentioning the glorious excitement of breaking the fourth wall just to tell your boss the whole thing is a pile of crap, and their are no stakes since they are all just fictional characters anyway.

There was a What If... comic where INSTEAD of Reed Richard's being Romanie Victor Von Doom roommate TONY STARK IS DOOM'S ROOMMATE. Doom swaps bodies with Stark. Like Doc Ock did with Peter Parker. It really is a good comic story. It may make a good movie. If that's the way they decide to go. IF they make it COMIC ACCURATE.
He'll get embarrassed & schooled by Captain Marvel, Echo, Ironheart, Ms. Marvel, Soy Hulk & the rest of the New Avengers. Who exactly is the superhero to root for vs Doom? There's nobody left from phase 1-3 that hasn't been ruined & everyone from 4-5 sucks, why should anyone give a damn other than it's RDJ ?

Oh, Marvel as we know it wouldn't try to make him Dr Doom. They'd just try and make us see RDJ as someone who kisses Captain Marvels ass... Though I'm not sure even Tony could find a valley in that salt pan.
Not impossible but it's unlikely. Downey would need make up to make his face resemble Doom's heavily scarred face and/or spend most of his time on screen in-costume. Unlikely, but maybe they can stay faithful to the character who almost never appears without his mask and at least some of his costume (whether for ease of access to some arcane spells/sigils inscribed upon his armour or to quickly access remote access to a piece of tech, such as calling upon an army of doombots to protect him).
They're taking a "good guy" and making him the "bad guy". It's what they do now. They're just doing it with the actor instead of the character this time.
@justagirl7094 aside from the angry fart cloud, I think Rise of the Silver Surfer was underrated. Rewatch the chase scene between Human Torch and Silver Surfer and tell me that wasn't really cool.
I enjoy both of the old films. They were fun overall. The Thing and Human Torch were the strengths that held the movies together. I never even wasted my time with that Josh Trank nonsense.

Disney will apparently never learn that more money does NOT make movies better. Deadpool and Wolverine is their best movie in years, and it was one of their lower budget movies. That should had taught them, give your customers what they want and your customers will pay you for it.
There's something to be said about hiring passionate and knowledgeable people to be the directors/screenwriters. When you hire activists/hardcore feminists or someone who never read a comic book growing up, you're going to get a subpar movie, regardless of how much money you throw at it.

It gives me a tiny bit of faith in humanity to think that most of the people cheering this at the reveal did so because they just assumed that RDJ being on stage meant that they were bringing Iron-Man back, with it only clicking later that...hold on...he's gonna be what now? Because the instant I read that RDJ was being brought back as Doom of all things, my first and instant thought was "holy crap, they have no idea what they're doing and are just desperately throwing things against a wall." This is not an indication that Marvel is righting itself and getting back on track. This is a last panicked gasp for air before the MCU sinks into the abyss.
Well, audiences need to stop supporting them. People just keep on coming back no matter how bad it gets. If I see quality drop, I stop supporting the company. If a company begins doings things that I don't agree with, I stop supporting them. I don't know why it is so hard for people to walk away from this stuff. By continuing to go back, customers just enable the companies to keep getting worse. Why do you think Star Wars is still going? Fans are brainwashed into thinking they have to have it. I haven't supported Disney in a lot of years now. I had always wanted a third Tron movie, but now that it is happening, I won't bother watching it. My dislike for Disney means more to me than watching a movie does.

That's exactly what they're setting up. They will also more than likely sprinkle in the rest of the cast, including possibly RDJ himself pointing out (just shy of looking straight into the camera to address the audience directly) that Iron Heart is a better Iron Man than RDJ was, likely with no supporting evidence. All of it will be handled with the subtlety of the "girl power" moment from End Game. Can't wait to not give Disney any of my money, but I'm glad RDJ is getting paid. He's definitely earned it.
Unless Disney has a complete shakedown, from the top all the way down to removing “the message” from everything they do, this is just an act of expensive desperation.

I think "New Mask, Same Task" is pretty much Feige and crew admitting they have no one to carry the franchise currently and RDJ is going to be their golden goose. I expect the Fantastic Four will get some heavy remodeling to incorporate at least Doom's introduction and hopefully generate a reason for people to go see it because that Hall H panel was pretty lackluster. I don't expect them to do it, but RDJ is a good actor and I hope they go for a true to form Doom and not a quippy wanna-be Stark. 'Multiverse' just explains why you don't have space ships and everybody speaks English. In any case, no matter how much multi-verse crap they keep doing with Xmen in Disney, it does not affect my love for the old Fox movies. I prefer it like that as I think it bolsters the story about mutants. I have never understood why mutants in the comic books were so hated when a million other superheroes are loved.

Your comparison to Dr Who had me thinking of another possible comparison. In 2021 we were given The Matrix Resurrections. It had Keanu. It had Carrie Anne Moss. It even had a Wachowski directing it. But clearly the result was very different from what the original trilogy gave us. I wouldn’t be surprised if whatever comes from this casting misses the mark as well. I think you’re right that the Marvel Studios that RDJ started making movies with is completely different than the one we have today.

My roommate's a huge Marvel fan (bit of a "rose-tinted glasses" guy), and he was hyped as hell for RDJ to return. I'm still very skeptical, not that RDJ couldn't pull off a good role, but with him already being established as someone in the universe, it worries me a bit. As I told him, "These are either gonna be the greatest movies in cinematic history, or the biggest fumbles in film history." I'm hoping it'll be the former, but with how laughably bad Disney's been lately, I'm wondering if it'll be the latter.
Even Kevin Feige was saying he wants to get another actor to replace Hugh Jackman as Wolverine but “have his own style and not imitate Hugh Jackman” (for the ‘next project’) They definitely get money to keep screwing things up and not learning at all.

It gives me a tiny bit of faith in humanity to think that most of the people cheering this at the reveal did so because they just assumed that RDJ being on stage meant that they were bringing Iron-Man back, with it only clicking later that...hold on...he's gonna be what now? Because the instant I read that RDJ was being brought back as Doom of all things, my first and instant thought was "holy crap, they have no idea what they're doing and are just desperately throwing things against a wall."
This is not an indication that Marvel is righting itself and getting back on track. This is a last panicked gasp for air before the MCU sinks into the abyss.

Well, audiences need to stop supporting them. People just keep on coming back no matter how bad it gets. If I see quality drop, I stop supporting the company. If a company begins doings things that I don't agree with, I stop supporting them. I don't know why it is so hard for people to walk away from this stuff. By continuing to go back, customers just enable the companies to keep getting worse. Why do you think Star Wars is still going? Fans are brainwashed into thinking they have to have it.
I haven't supported Disney in a lot of years now. I had always wanted a third Tron movie, but now that it is happening, I won't bother watching it. My dislike for Disney means more to me than watching a movie does.

That's exactly what they're setting up. They will also more than likely sprinkle in the rest of the cast, including possibly RDJ himself pointing out (just shy of looking straight into the camera to address the audience directly) that Iron Heart is a better Iron Man than RDJ was, likely with no supporting evidence. All of it will be handled with the subtlety of the "girl power" moment from End Game. Can't wait to not give Disney any of my money, but I'm glad RDJ is getting paid. He's definitely earned it.
Unless Disney has a complete shakedown, from the top all the way down to removing “the message” from everything they do, this is just an act of expensive desperation.

Of course its a last minute grab for attention. Did you see how low quality the constume was that he wore? It was just a green hooded cape with a mask. No embellishment, no thread, no regality that these reveals normally have. The mask looked like a dollar store mask they bought up last time dr doom was played.

I think "New Mask, Same Task" is pretty much Feige and crew admitting they have no one to carry the franchise currently and RDJ is going to be their golden goose. I expect the Fantastic Four will get some heavy remodeling to incorporate at least Doom's introduction and hopefully generate a reason for people to go see it because that Hall H panel was pretty lackluster. I don't expect them to do it, but RDJ is a good actor and I hope they go for a true to form Doom and not a quippy wanna-be Stark. It is hilarious that his pay package to do two movie is bigger than his entire phase1-3 run

A 'close' multiverse is one where different realities contain many of the same people and events, with branching points you can spot. _Dr. Who's_ "Turn Left," for example. A 'far' multiverse, obviously, does not have different versions of the same characters running around; you generally not only want not another Barry Allen, but you probably don't want Wally West in his costume, either.
A 'many' multiverse has innumerable variations. Not necessarily infinite, but not necessarily not infinite. You can just keep finding more worlds, and nobody really knows how many are out there. 'Multiverse' just explains why you don't have space ships and everybody speaks English.
Combine them and the characters become fungible commodities; why should I care if Wesley died if I can just grab the Wesley from the next universe over to fill his shoes? A 'few' multiverse fixes this by limiting how many alternates there are; yes, there is more than one of a character, but if they come in six packs rather than bulk you'll _eventually_ run out.

In any case, no matter how much multi-verse crap they keep doing with Xmen in Disney, it does not affect my love for the old Fox movies. I love those Xmen movies and will never consider them as a part of some multiverse. They are good films that take place in their own world, not sharing the stage with a million other superheroes. I prefer it like that as I think it bolsters the story about mutants. I have never understood why mutants in the comic books were so hated when a million other superheroes are loved.

Your comparison to Dr Who had me thinking of another possible comparison. In 2021 we were given The Matrix Resurrections. It had Keanu. It had Carrie Anne Moss. It even had a Wachowski directing it. But clearly the result was very different from what the original trilogy gave us. I wouldn’t be surprised if whatever comes from this casting misses the mark as well. I think you’re right that the Marvel Studios that RDJ started making movies with is completely different than the one we have today.

My roommate's a huge Marvel fan (bit of a "rose-tinted glasses" guy), and he was hyped as hell for RDJ to return. I'm still very skeptical, not that RDJ couldn't pull off a good role, but with him already being established as someone in the universe, it worries me a bit.
As I told him, "These are either gonna be the greatest movies in cinematic history, or the biggest fumbles in film history."

Honestly, I expect RDJ to be the least of the problems with the upcoming films. The worldbuilding is screwed, there are no good characters left, and their recent track record is awful.
If they want "long term", maybe they should look at Godzilla and what the Japanese accomplished with very little.
