His voice has matured over the years. I used to listen to the Jam and love the songs for their lyrical content without really realising the beauty of Paul Weller's voice. But wow!
A song all about his love for England and he first sang it when he was in The Jam, I was about 14 at the time and whenever I hear it takes me back to that time.
Weller wrote this originally! Just recorded it first with the Jam. So beautiful. It was a real shock at the time, being so different from the usual Jam rock.
I met someone 5 years ago, I fell for her the first time I saw her! She seemed to fall for me for a couple of years but I acted like a bit of a knob (I didnt know at the time I have Aspergers which makes me behave weird). Any way 5 years later shes told me she will never love me again and to look for someone else to love.....I told her I ALREADY FOUND HER and I’ve stuck with her through some bad times🤷🏼♂️ Ive told her i will never leave her side she seems happy with me as just a ‘friend’ but I will love only this woman till the end of my days, she is disabled but I wont quit on her. This song just busts me up, but thats life I guess one sided love😢 I LOVE YOU sweetpea until they nail me in a crate!😘 Paul nails it PERFECTLY I miss her whenever we are apart. thanks for sharing.
tough break that lad, life's all in the timing, and the gods don't set alarms. don't know your situ but if i was in your shoes, id be a friend but put a bit of physical and emotional distance between you, for both your sakes. Being the friend they call on whose always available is to have your cake and eat it to territory, no incentive to progress. Trust, a bit of distance, and shell realize what she's missing la.
Fantastic! The lyrical twists in this song are just genius. This guy would make me proud to be English. If his wife/girlfriend didn't burst intro tears upon first hearing this I would be surprised. Thanks for uploading this linesandcurves!
Not sure if the answer is lurking in the posts I HAVEN'T read, but here it is. This was on the bonus DVD of the two-disc expanded version of 'All Mod Cons'. It's not a bonus TRACK per se, but is in the middle of a Jam documentary made especially for the expanded version of the album. His voice has never sounded better. I have to wonder why there are so many 'mystery track' questions that go unanswered. Is it because nobody ever watches bonus DVDs, or is it because the people that DO watch bonus DVDs just never go on TH-cam?
It may take only a minute to like someone, only an hour to have a crush on someone and only a day to love someone but it will take a lifetime to forget someone. No Regrets x RIP BabyGirl xxxxxx
Does anyone happen to know what effects pedal he uses ? Thou I used to think this was a backtrack, you can hear it's not from the last few notes he threw in on this video.
The man is a legend, and a song writing genius
The English Bruce Springsteen is how I liken him to.
Years on, mastery of an under appreciated masterpiece.
Paul Weller is one of the few artists who have probably got better as the years have gone by. Legend
He blew our minds with The Jam, n then in our grief, The Style Council, fucken legend.
Happy St George’s day 2022, quality atmospheric version 👍

An 'English Rose' is a person; an English girl, woman, loved one, a beauty! -Not the country itself, but a lady of this land! A beloved one! 😅😘
@@karenturner8739 True.. but this song in particular, is about England. That was PW's intention.
Wowow. Sooo beautiful the man is a true star
Always will be the "Modfather" but he just keeps getting better. I cannot wait to see him again.
Loved the Jam,and never appreciated this song. But it is just a masterpiece.

Only Weller could create a truer, richer version of this classic.
The man is a lifelong poet. The Jam in 1977…….
lovely song, thanks a lot to dedicate it to me
I bought the special edition of All Mod Cons and this was a new 2006 recording that was a bonus.
Why's this only got 467 views? Shocking.
Love it!

I wasn't implying anything, I know how you feel. Sometimes things are just impossible to track down. Not often, but sometimes.
No sweat, I just thought I might have come across a little more critical than I wanted.
Special song this to me ... sounds so much better accoustic ... days of speed album was unbelievable .

This song has got better and matured with age from Paul singer a slightly different melody in later versions . 👍🏼
Paul Weller the mod father is a legend
head and shoulders above the album version
Beautiful song overall, but that key change really makes it timeless.
Indeed! It lifts up the song.

Shame it's such a short song, beautiful though
To the 12 people who disliked this video...wtf is wrong with you!!!...you can't have a soul ffs 😆
yes but i,ve got a Yorkshire rose
When im drunk sometimes, i sing this in bed to my darling wife.
No bonce isn't very lyrical but no money wouldn't have cut it
no bonds 🎸
this video is amazing to smoke marijuana to
Have a look at my version!
Sounding not so dissimilar from Chris Cornell when Chris sings in his lower range.
