Superb review, Wayne! The first 3 Digimon World games is a part of my formative years from late elementary coming into mid-highschool in my love for RPG games. I'm turning to my mid-30's soon, well into my grind and hustle in the rat race, and revisiting your well crafted retrospectives and reviews on those 3 games made is both cathartic and makes the inner child in me very happy. This may not be much, but as a thanks from me - you've definitely cured my nostalgia sickness for all things Digimon World (The first 3, at least.) Cheers and wishing you more success, my man! 😎
I wish Blast Digivolution was something the newer games kept. Its such a neat idea and meshes really well with Digimon, DV's in the show usually happen during combat and in moments of high intensity so having a mechanic in-game that mimics that is really fun. It also motivates you by showing a cool future digivolution that you can eventually unlock.
It was always my understanding that digimon world 1-3 each take part decades apart but in the same digital world. In 1 we meet the world, it's wild and untamed. In 2 we learn it's in the process of being conquered, every human in there is part of a military-like organization, a rogue from that organization or a miscellaneous consultant or scientist, everyone has a reason to be there. Fast forward to 3 where the digital world has been tamed to the point of becoming a game, even if it still has military uses in the background (until they become the foreground)
I like this, kinda makes sense especially since the technology seems to evolve, the first game was modern day, 2nd game is more advanced, 3rd game Tokyo looks very futuristic.
And the most infamous one, Digimon world 4, takes place in a quarantined server of World 3's digital world, where the remaining Digimon have taken the game mechanics - breaking under the weight of the X Program - and using them Directly to defend themselves; the player Digimon specifically being leftover partners from players that aren't there anymore, Dependent on the game mechanics that can no longer be accessed
Glad to see you cover this game! I love the music, in-game card battles, the graphics when you move around and your partners follow you around... Overall feeling, the vibe of it. Sure it has it's own quirks and sometimes rather esoteric progerssion, and lots of grinding, but I still think it holds up pretty well. :)
This was such a good video! I grew up with Digimon world Dawn on DS and never realized how much inspiration it took from this game. Super interesting to learn about
LETS GOOOOOOOOO!!! I found your channel through your digimon world 2 video and i was so excited for this video! Youre legit on e of the cutest and best video game essayists i watch so thank you so much king!
Growing up I only played world 4, which I didn’t understand, and a tiny bit of world 1, which I did not understand. These deep dives have been proper eye opening to a facet of the series which I’ve never properly delved into so cheers for these boss. This one looks like a winner; the 3d models for the guys all look so lush, will have to track down a copy!
One of the things I liked about this game. That not many of its kind did is the having a tired animation when they were close to death.I thought that was kinda cool
Thank you, man. I waited a long time for this and it did not disappoint. Started watching yesterday and finished it right now and it was totally worth it! I played this game when I was 13 (I'm 34 now) and I always loved it despite it having a ton of flaws. When you posted the DW2 review last year (another flawed game that I loved), it was an instant subscrption. I just want to point out something that you did not have mentioned: for anyone that wants to play DW3, there is an issue with those pesky loading screens. If you play the game long enough without saving with your memory card, the game starts to fail to load the screens. The blue squares just don't vanish and you can't see anything. It is also true if you emulate it: last year I played it using save states and right before encountering Lucky Mouse, the game became unplayable. I don't know if there is a fix to that and if this is a problem in both versions of the game, but just a heads up.
I have owed several copies of this specific game over the last 20 years and I play it a few times a year. It has to be my all time favorite game. I wish current Digimon games would go back to this style of game play in my opinion.
With how each World game so far has gone in a different direction, seeing one so similar to the ones I grew up with (Dawn/Dusk) is great for me! I'll have to play them myself at some point.
Heck yes! Been waiting for this one! Another great video bud. This game was a passion of mine when I was a kid. I actually had the guide back then and it still took a VERY long time for me to get to the end and bro I feel like you gave me a better understanding of the game than that guide ever did.
Brother, you've outdone yourself with this one. Congrats on completing this monster! I know we'll eventually see more Digimon on this channel, but nevertheless this was a wonderful conclusion to the PS1 trilogy. It's wild how I've basically never played much Digimon (aside from dabbling with World 2) yet I still find these to be a joy to watch because of how much effort and passion you put into them. I'm really excited to see what you do next, but until then, give yourself a pat on the back and take a victory lap or three, you deserve it!
This is probably the top Digimon game I would play right after the 1st Digimon World game. I just love the 1st one with the pre-rendered backgrounds so much, but I like the isometric exploration of this one too.
Loved the video. Keep up with the wonderful work. I will probably play DW 3 soon, 3 since I don't want to play the post-game. This videos let you to have a taste of what the game is and adjust to your own preferences, it is so good. Already can't wait to see the next chapters of this Digimon Odyssey ❤
I will say - I don't think the game requires a guide as much as you claim, it's just a much more old-school RPG in how you're meant to get this information. For example, if you speak to the guy for the kicking boots a second time, he tells you he remember he has it at the inn. Similarly in later points (like when looking for the AoA/resistance, or getting the blue card), talking to the NPCs a second time gives you hints on where to go. Having said that, many of the story beats are very obtuse about this, and in a more modern age/for the person that doesn't have hours upon hours to spend on walking around with that garbage encounter rate, I do agree a walkthrough is very valuable.
Congratulations and well done on completing one of my favourite RPGs from my childhood. I never finished the postgame because of the whole grind. I am glad there are emulators that allow ypu to fast forward movement speed, it’s not worth it. By god I hope the fans make a modded version of this with a lot less grinding. It is at its core a really fun game. The battle system, scenery, music are great.
12:19 Well, Kumamon (Frontier) in JP was Chakmon, so Bearmon being Kumamon in JP is makes more sense. Really, I just find it funny that for the EN version, they renamed Chakmon into something you'd expect from JP instead. With that out of the way, the rest of the vid is stellar, as always! With this, you've now reviewed the 3 Digimon games from my childhood, and it's a joy and pleasure to have your videos on them :) I find it interesting that you didn't like the card game. Most discussions I saw online seem to point toward it being one of the more liked elements of the game. And I liked it myself, if only because it's a nice break from all the grinding and backtracking. The way you described the digivolving process is interesting in that I felt it was grindier than that. Maybe playing it right after DW2 colored my opinion of it... I will just tack on here that I really adore this game's sprite work. They're so pretty even when I look at them now. Overall, we pretty much share the same sentiment on the game. Hell, I ranked these 3 the same way. PS: Godspeed for when you get around to tackling Digimon World 4.
Just checked back at you channel a few days back and now here's the big one! DW3 is my favorite PS DW Trilogy in term of simplicity of gameplay and how grand the story panned out, still lacks some charm DW1 has but it's good enough. About that postgame, maybe because I like to do everything that I could before finishing the main game I don't really have much trouble with it as I do legendary weapons even before going to Gunslinger, also because I knew everything playing US version before I don't trigger the Vemmon turning everyone to Oinkmon until I want to go to endgame (Seriously tho, that A.o.A. theme playing everywhere haunts me to this day I want to hear it as little as possible) Can't wait for the next one And off topic : Digimon Con 2025 is drawing near in just a few months, let's see what BanNam has in store this time.
I'm glad to hear that the previous games aren't required reading. I came across Digimon World 2003 at an indoor market for £8 about two years ago (considerably less than the £60 to £70 it usually sells for) and snapped it up. I've held off on playing it until now because I figured I should find a way to play Worlds 1 and 2 first, but now I know that I don't need to... let's roll!
I never knew you could actually get all the epic items in the post game. I always thought once you miss them, they're gone forever. Wow... Wish I had known that.
This was worth the wait! You know, I actually think this game benefits from being very Pokémon-like, as it's a bit more beginner-friendly to new fans of the series coming from other series.
Finally, it's been long time. Almost 2 hours video xD. Digimon 3 definitely among fan favorite in the series. Hopefully they remaster it someday. Maybe with some QoL or fast travel added.
Call it nostalgia, say I'm wearing rose colored glasses or whatever but man I have so many hours in DW3 and still love playing it today. I recognize it's flaws. The grind, the back tracking, the crazy random encounters but man DW3 is a vibe and I've loved this game since I was a little kid.
now imagine when i was a kid playing this with my ps 1 and without knowing english... i still remember how many times i wasted my time when i need to find gondola ticket, crossing the desert, i cant believe i can fisinish it
Digimon World 1,2 and 3 were my childhood. I completely agree with every criticism you have for all 3 games, but as a kid I think we were very accepting of quirky video game design choices, especially when we didn't know any better. Every game back then seemed to have these weirdness about them and it was always a roll of the dice if a game was too badly designed and is unplayable or badly designed but still playable. And back then you get one game or 2 a year, 3 if your lucky, so kinda have to stick with what you have and enjoy it even with the flaws.
Superb review, Wayne!
The first 3 Digimon World games is a part of my formative years from late elementary coming into mid-highschool in my love for RPG games. 39:17 Ice makes sense for Dinos. Remember what Schwarzenegger told us in Batman & Robin “What killed the dinosaurs? The Ice Age!”
My God… it’s finally here…
My god... what is it?
PRAISE!
FINALLY! Just ordered a pizza and opened youtube, the stars are in alignement.
Perfect thing to cap off the first day of MAGFest with. Thanks man!
The most anticipated Digimon release of 2025 😚
Literally found your channel 2 days ago and watched your Digimon world video. Yesterday I watched Digimon world 2 video. And then BOOM today:
I wish Blast Digivolution was something the newer games kept. Its such a neat idea and meshes really well with Digimon, DV's in the show usually happen during combat and in moments of high intensity so having a mechanic in-game that mimics that is really fun. Wake up babe, the Digimon World 3 review finally dropped!
It was always my understanding that digimon world 1-3 each take part decades apart but in the same digital world.

Oh whoa Wayne! It's such a nice surprise to see you on my recommendation again
Good to see you got that Digimon World 1 black label for the collection. 👍👍👍
DMW 2 and 3 were my childhood and I'm SO happy to see you continuing this series!
I was randomly watching old videos and this dropped. Cheers!
Just got off from work, and saw this from the notification? Wait up while I create my breakfast for this.
Just started the video and I'm so excited. Loved the world 1 and 2 retrospectives!
One of the things I liked about this game. That not many of its kind did is the having a tired animation when they were close to death.I thought that was kinda cool
Thank you for your tremendous effort and time in creating these Digimon game videos and bringing back happy nostalgia for so many people.
I was waiting for this one

Digimon 3 was one of my first RPGs ever, and I loved it! Its probably the first game I have ever 100 percented. Great video like always.
I've been eagerly waiting for this
Wayne you badass mofo. Been waiting patiently and its finally here. Keep these coming, I'll always be watching.
HECK YEAH WAYNE GOOD JOB!!! I will be watching this at least forty times
Thank you! That was a great review on a game that I love
Finally!! Waiting all day for this. Dont care if I have work tomorrow, gotta see this first!
Saw this last night and knew my work day was gonna be great
With how each World game so far has gone in a different direction, seeing one so similar to the ones I grew up with (Dawn/Dusk) is great for me! I'll have to play them myself at some point.

AH SO EXCITED
Gotta wrap up some stuff then I'm diving in.
I really like the boss music and the boss.Arena with a floating omnimon sword and other weapons, from characters just hovering in the air
I'm working and can't watch this until way later today or tomorrow but still dropping that like because I know this video is going to be peak
awww yiiis, gotta watch it this weekend
This is probably the top Digimon game I would play right after the 1st Digimon World game. I just love the 1st one with the pre-rendered backgrounds so much, but I like the isometric exploration of this one too.
Getting back into the digimon tcg and the timing of this video is godlike - Gallantmon X is THE meta deck right now 😂
Another amazing vid the wait was definitely worth it I hope you have a much better year this year
Never got to play any of them, but these videos have been piquing my interest
Loved the video. Keep up with the wonderful work. I will probably play DW 3 soon, 3 since I don't want to play the post-game. This videos let you to have a taste of what the game is and adjust to your own preferences, it is so good.

OH HECK LET'S GO!! Been waiting for your video on this and it didn't disappoint.
I’m a simple man, I see Digimon World 3 I click like 👍
this is my childhood! played this blindly as a primary for 3yrs+
wish there was more love for this series. I know it's slow today, but it still looks so charming.
Just saying hi, gonna enjoy this one, thank you...
Wow all those in game cutscenes I never knew existed...is this because I had the 2003 version?
I will say - I don't think the game requires a guide as much as you claim, it's just a much more old-school RPG in how you're meant to get this information. This is the fastest I've clicked on a video this year, for sure.
Congratulations and well done on completing one of my favourite RPGs from my childhood.

17:37 - 17:40 OK am I remembering it wrong or it had really been a while since we heard this line from you? Man nostalgia hit me like a truck 😅
I've never even KNEW that was 'recruting' other starter digimons until after my second play
Worst, most boring and mind numbing day at work today. Finding this upload is the best ending! Thanks Wayne!
This is one of my favorite, most frustrating, obtuse and enjoyable games
Holy shit, I feel like I've been hearing about the making of this video for like 3 years. Glad it's done and I'm glad you're back 🤘🔥
Just checked back at you channel a few days back and now here's the big one!

Twas a great video and I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't care for the post-game stuff in this title.
BANGER NUMBER 3 BABYYYYY
The wait was long but THE DAY IS HERE! Thank you for your effort and passion!

Good stuff
