I got my copy with all the expansions 2 days ago. It will be a few weeks before I can even open it so, until then, I'll live vicariously through your videos.
I have this coming - really looking forward to receiving it soon. Felt like a pretty unique experience that was a great mix of tactical war gaming and a role-playing game. Thanks for the preview!
I received my copy this week and I'm so bummed I won't get the chance to play it for a couple of weeks due to work. So I am eagerly anticipating any videos you put out soon for Purple Haze! Thank you for sharing 👍
Thank you! They made quite a few element changes over the last couple years and so it was good to get a look at the production copy. I can't wait to get in to it.
This reminds me a bit of the old Ambush! game which is probably still my favorite wargame. But this system seems to help you keep track of things with cards and tables where in Ambush! a lot of that is tracked on paper. Although I still like the Ambush! fog of war system in that any hex can trigger an event and you don't know until you enter it. This is definitely a game I am interested in. Great video.
Interesting, I've not played Ambush! yet, it's sitting on my Shelf of Opportunity staring at me though. One thing about the system, though. Those encounter cards can trigger in any area, so I think that's probably parallel to the Ambush event event.
@TWolf317 agreed, ambush was my first wargame, I'm a late starter only got into wargames about a year or so ago. Tracked down all the ambush and expansions. As you say this reminded me of it so backed it. I'm in Scotland so a longer wait for me. Let me know what you think if you get it played soon.
Excellent video, I have the game on my wish list as I had backed a tried and trusted favourite Warfigher (Vietnam) Will probably buy at some point in the future. Many thanks.
Great overview. I am subscribing and waiting for your next Purple Haze video. I am an ALL-IN backer with all the expansions. The copies are on the way. Can't wait. It's been several years since the crowdfunding campaign. They took their time with this one hehe. I remember the early prototype (they had a demo in Tabletop Simulator which I tried). The combat was a bit different (with cards and dice). The game evolved somewhat. No matter how much I will play it (replayability-wise) I expect to be a pretty nice gem in my collection.
Thanks for the heads up. My main order arrived today and it was missing in mine as well. The Gamefound page mentions reaching out to: customercare@phalanxgames.co.uk, which I've done. :)
@ Game looks immersive. I like that. Overall how does it play as a war game? And what would you put the complexity rating at in the BGG 1-5 scale? If you mentioned this in the video, I apologize.
I actually didn't mention the complexity, now that you mention it. I should have. I'll talk about it in one of the upcoming videos. Probably a 3.5 out of 10 on a wargaming scale? I'm going to replay the 1st mission while making the next video so I'll know more after that. Nothing is hard conceptually, and once you get playing it's pretty straightforward. Having said that, there are enough systems and details that a 3.5 feels about right to me.
I didn't back this. Love the theme, interested in the time period. There was just this gut feeling that something was off and the price was too high. Just a gut feeling and usually I'm justified following it. I cant see a ton of replay ability in it now that I see it. I might be wrong. We'll see...
I'm curious to see what I think about the replayability as I play through the campaign. I can say after playing the first mission that I think I saw only about 1/3 of the story, so there are still a lot of unknowns for me. Also, I think the game will be ripe for expansion packs with campaigns for the base system.
I like solo and co op games. I have Phantom Leader which takes care of the skies above 'Nam. Purple Haze would cover the tactics on the ground quite nicely I think. I'll have to check it out as and when it hits retail and I have the funds. Thank you for the review.
Were you missing one of the expansios also? Got mine yesterday and missing the Born to Kill expansion. Seems like a wide-spread issue. Game looks amazing though!
Yes, I reached out yesterday and got an email back already. Response said that they are aware of the issue and will be in touch with a solution. I'm confident they'll sort it out, and the Born to Kill expansion is post-campaign, so there is plenty to play before I'll get to that. :)
That's a Cube4Me tray for the game. The specific kit for this game will be on their site soon, but here's the general link to their site: cube4me.com/?r=zb
A few people have mentioned the Warfighter similarity, and I can definitely see that, but I think the tactical combat section in particular pulls it away from that game, and the story mode as well. And the mission execution map element too.
Happy to help! The link to the company page for the game is in the video description. And they are in Europe, so I imagine they have affordable shipping options to Germany for you. :)
I'm one of the early backers, I bought everything and I still have not received my package and it seem it was not even shipped yet. This is the second Kickstarter game I fund. Both times I have been highly disappointed, despite backing all in. - 1st DVG Warfighter (They forgot to ship my order, and one expansion was missing), so I got my game later than the guy buying it at the store next door. - 2nd Purple Haze (Still no news of shipping despite being one of the early backers) Those companies are disappointing their customers.
In case it helps, as if you're new to crowdfunding it's easy to miss this. Most crowdfunding campaigns have a communication a few months after the campaign ends and shortly before shipping begins that asks you to confirm your shipping information and finalize any miscellaneous charges. If you miss that, your order will usually not ship, and if you miss the deadline for it you have to connect with the company before your order will ship. I mention it because I'm fairly new to crowdfunding as well, and I've almost missed a couple of those emails. They can be easy to overlook, especially as some crowdfunding campaigns send lots of email. Not saying that you missed them, of course, but if you've had two crowdfunding campaigns and neither has shipped, it's possible that that's the reason. :)
I was thinking about this too. I think it'd be pretty straightforward to do so. The missions are pretty much text, with the exception of the unique combat situations. But you could work around that pretty easily. The only thing that might take some thinking is the Encounter cards, which are unique for each mission. But you could probably switch that to a die roll and some text to pick encounters instead of drawing a card. So yeah, I think the ability to create your own missions is only limited by one's creativity. You've got pretty much everything you need to do so in the box. :)
The other side of this though is that an element of the missions is not knowing what's going to happen with different choices. So while you could write your own missions, you'll also understand all the choices when you play.
Yes, if you do create something it'd be fun to share it on Board Game Geek so everyone could play it. I wonder if there will be a number of people who make modules for it?
@@TachyonDriverThere were opportunities in '46 and again in '54 to end the conflict and let the Vietnamese determine their own future, but the Cold War ideologues in Washington and the colonialists in France wouldn't accept that. What followed was a needless waste of even more lives. Perhaps you take a different view, which is fine. I'm not sure a back and forth would be all that fruitful.
I'm on mission #3 of this game. Excellent game and worth the wait.
Good to hear, glad that you are enjoy it! Anyone lost yet?
@@ZillaBlitz I've had some amazing rolls so nobody lost yet. Some guys are going insane though...

@@ZillaBlitz Hopefully soon means later today. Just kidding! Enjoy Thanksgiving and I will be looking forward to the gameplay demo.

It's a very striking production, and the design supports the feel of the gameplay very well imho. :)
Great video. Buzzing for it arriving now
Thanks! Enjoy!
I have been going to the website and looking at it. Next step is getting it into the cart lol. Once that happens, its over.
@Pluto2363 I'm new to wargames, 41 and my first purchase was ambush, an older game. Purple haze reminds me of ambush so I backed it straight away
That's a great game to start with! :)
haha, can relate! :)
Great video as always and my copy has just arrived as I type, happy days in the land down under.

I'm hoping to create/publish on Sunday. :)
Thanks, this looks really interesting, really looking forward to the other vids on this one.
Thanks, should have the next one up in less than a week I hope. :)
Super excited for this one. Thanks for the great overview!
My pleasure glad you liked it!
Great overview thank you - I missed this one but super interesting!

Looks great! Gives me some more Warfighter WW2 vibes with more story to it.
A few people have mentioned Warfighter and thinking on it more closely I can see the comparisons with the soldiers, for sure.

Thanks! I really need to get my Warfighter game to the table as well. :)
It’s got elements of Ambush! (As has been mentioned) and some Warfighter in there as well.
