- I've been inspired by my last video to put together a list of my favourite small box games for your enjoyment...

Arkham Noir is a great little hand management puzzle solver. Tough challenges, and you can really agonise over most turns.

I play Keyforge 2 handed, once you have a collection of deck you have such a great variety of win conditions and Rock, Paper, Scissors!
Hey Steve, I bought a joblot of Keyforge decks off eBay a month ago.. Not had time to play it too much, but what I did see looked good. I too love the decks different abilities...

Great video. I'd also have Forbidden Island and Pocket Landship on my list. I'm really fond of Crypt of Chaos and Space Hulk Death Angel, and 7 Moons has a nice epic quest in a tiny box. I also quite like Shadowscape but I don't anticipate winning that anytime soon 😄I also like Zombie Island but the minis are ultra fragile!

I wouldn't have said forbidden island due to it not been a small enough box lol
When I go on holiday (currently away now!) I take a tin lunch box filled with mainly solo games. Granted most are without their box (I bought a load of drawstring pouches for this) but it does give a bigger variety.

I then jus swap in & out a few of the button shy wallet card games.
The crew 2 is actually my fav small box game. Aside with Crop circle, an addictive roll & write
I haven't played the crew games, I should because they are well rated. I hadn't heard of crop circle, I had a look and it looks like my cup of tea... Thanks for the heads up and comment Caballo...
@@thesoloboardgamer6051 fun fact: Crop circle was the winning proposal of a board game creation contest in Chile and Argentina called "Llevalo a la mesa 2021" (bring it to the table) . There were many competing proposals and I was lucky enough to try some of them during the testing period in differents stores. Also, the challenge of that competitions is to create a Roll & Write with only 2d6 dices.

Some great small box games on my list are: Canopy, Fantasy Realms, Splendor Duel, Arboretum, Codenames Duet; to name a few.

I fell in LOOOVE with Hero Realms. But I keep my content in the Adventure Storage Box, so my collection is no longer small box...lol

Hi I just found your chanel / subscribed. Thank you for the game intros I really searched some good solo game and I found it thx to you. :) Solar Storm, Pocket Landship, looks really good. Cartographers and Hero realms' twins ( Star Realms) can be played on phone as well. I would suggest a game to this list: Doom Machine, a PNP card and cube manipulation game, with only 16 cards and 20 cubes. :)

A lot of new ones for me. Great list. One of my favorite small games is Doom Machine. It’s a tiny dice placement game where you’re trying to defeat a doomsday machine. The machine adds a new card every turn and you have to roll dice and defeat each card. For every card you defeat, you get one more die. Very tense and thinky, and very thematic
Nice list, thanks for sharing, but I notice that I am wondering what is this game in your video intro that is not in your list. I'm intrigued by the second one at 0:25... looks amazing.

The game is grimslingers from greenbrier games.
It's a futuristic cowboy card duelling game that has a solo campaign. You have to house rule a few things but it doesn't detract from being a very cool game.

My favorite 2 player smallish box game is Caper Europe.

Many of these are 2 player or more and hard as hades to find yet alone purchase.
For the most part I agree have to throw Eldritch horror and marvel united in there though.

Just like what @joetrotta9211 said, I also want to drop a vote for Bloody Inn. Lovely game, plays wonderfully solo.
And also Lux Aeterna - difficult to obtain, but very quick game.
And check out Desolate - also a small box and quick game to setup. It's the small sibling of Iron Helm - which I liked a bit less. Desolate is quicker.

I have Solar Storm, Pocket Landship, and Ganz Shon Clever. Fantastic Factories would be a great add to this list.

Nice video! Thanks for some interesting titles that was not aware before. Some of my favorite small box solo games (that are not on your list) are: Railroad Ink, Regicide, Maquis, Assembly, Lux Eterna, Cat Lady, Balada, Judge Dredd: The Curesed Earth and, depending on whether these are considered 'small' - - The Bloody Inn (possibly my favorite of all these), and Falling Skies. I sometimes like games as simple 'time killers' and sometimes I like something a bit more interesting.

That's Grimslingers by Greenbrier games... A futuristic cowboy duelling game that comes with a solo campaign.... Rules are a bit jankey but nothing you can't houserule out..

Onirim would be higher than Aerion for me if not for the constant shuffling (which is solved by the digital version).
My favorite and most played small box game has to be Oh My Goods.

@@thesoloboardgamer6051 Oh, yes, Onirim doesn't lose its charm. I even can see myself shuffling cards on a long lazy day just for fun and chill, which I think it was part of the inspiration to create it if I'm not mistaken.
Loving this vid and never heard of the Manhattan Project CR… looks awesome. I’m very much in the small box zone - favourites are button shy games (too many to mention!), black sonata, maquis… I could go on 😂
Glad you liked the video Jonathan... MPCR is a great little game, I love the multi use cards and resource management. Black Sonata looks fantastic, I watched some videos on it some while ago, I couldn't seem to find a copy at the time and forgot about it. I'll have to look out for it..

@@thesoloboardgamer6051 I ended up splashing out and treating myself to both maquis and black sonata from the same person on eBay- he had a small business selling games and specialising in solo/small and quite a few copies left last year so may be worth a looksy if still there

I’m the same but have forced myself for the sake of a community project I was doing and now a game I’ve designed coming to KS (sort of have to to spread the word!) - just wondered as enjoy the “content” but don’t tend to check/go on TH-cam as much as Twitter say. Anyways, have a cracking day and hopefully you’ll be able to grab a copy of Black Sonata soonish!!
Nice Video, Race for Glaxy (Gathering Storm) would be in my list, perhaps a stretch to call it a small box game though?

Pocket Landship looks as if it's precisely the kind of game in which I would be interested. Unfortunate that that secondary market prices are so exorbitant.

Yep! I love Mage Knight, but this is almost the same level of complexity with less footprint, smaller box and a bit faster, but still the same feeling of a puzzle. I would recommend the second player expansion even for more options in solo play.
The Dead Eye is a really fun small solo only game. It’s very unique and has 3d cards as you play.

Anima: Shadow of Omega and the two sequels are great little games (and there is a solo variant on BGG).
6:56 for all the games. I could tell you my favorites but they wouldn't mean a thing to you.

@@thesoloboardgamer6051 dungeon flee, diceborn heroes, salvation road, aftermath, the last stronghold, the forgotten road. Still undecided about galdor's grrip. But I use my own (and better) rules on the above.
Try Mini Rogue, cool solo dungeon crawler.
Just watched a solo playthrough from dale the casual gamer, definitely my cup of tea...

If you search on TH-cam, I think you will find at least one solo mode demo for the Star Wars game.

What game is at 0:17? It isn't mentioned in the rest of the video, but looks interesting with great art (bonus points if you leave your review of the game)
The game is Grimslingers by Greenbrier games... It's a futuristic wild west cowboy/monster duelling game that comes with a story mode called Tall Tales... you work your way through a campaign book, duelling monsters and improving your stats and abilities along the way. The combat is very much Rock, Paper scissors... It didn't make my list because the rules have always been a bit janky and require quite a bit of house ruling... I love the world it's set in and the artwork, that's why i'm forgiving of it's problems.

@Jessy Catterwaul Up voted to cancel out your down vote. 😊. Grimslingers solo play is great. My son and I play the duel version, and though there was one rule I couldn't decipher, we just agreed a rule and wrote it down and got on with it.

Star wars definitely not, I just play both sides fairly. Forbidden Island is coop so you can play a couple of characters...
As for the rest you can play them all solo.

Hey Vincent, the game is Grimslingers.. I get a lot of questions about that clip, maybe I'll do a playthrough.
It's a duelling steampunk cowboy cardgame that comes with a campaign. There is also an expansion called northern territories.
You're right it is beautiful.
The reason it's not in my top ten is that it needs a lot of house ruling.

ODD= One Deck Dungeon. It really is a fantastic game as is the follow-up Forest of Shadows.
I became addicted to ODD and played it for months without getting bored.
Must say that I will not be buying One Deck Galaxy because the rulebook is a shambolic.
Give the original ODD but don't blame me when you get addicted and become an insomnia 😂 No,not that bad 😊😊

1:20 forbidden island is too simple for all but the highest difficulty levels. I liked it more than the also excellent Forbidden Desert. Higher highs, lower lows.
2:14 Pocket Landship: I had to mutilate the cards to cut off parts of them so that they would fit in the box. Most stupid box design ever and I won't buy from the creator ever again. The advertised box was not what you eventually got.
4:30 Ony-rim, too many expansions. Didn't work for me.
I don't know what you define as SMALL but I'd suggest one of those:
1. Shephy - either the original or pnp the royalty free version (for which I added the campaign mode that is in the digital but not the original). Tons of gameplay there.
2. Dungeon Flee. I co-edited it, it's perfect. Setup is a little long but you get an excellent game. I also added a scoring sheet. After your first play try medium difficulty.
3. The Phantom the Card game. Small, efficient footprint. I co-edited this gem too. Make sure to ignore the creator's hand size of 3 and increase it to 4 and you have a great time.
4. The Forgotten Road. Its pnp is out and the retail is being fulfilled right now. I created a great roguelite campaign for it. Give it a try, the pnp is cheap, campaign is free.
5. One deck dungeon. Hundreds of plays, campaign plus various fan based heroes and bosses/ monsters.
6. Palm Island, Sprawlopolis, but you already must have played these.
I do like my games fairly simple I must admit....

I play Terrors of London the same way you play Star Wars and find it very enjoyable, espacially with great amount of chracters you can mix and match. I also enjoy Casciadia for solo game.
I like the look of Terrors of london, difficult to get hold of a copy. Very much like star/hero realms, so I know I'd enjoy it...
