I have advanced Parkinson’s disease - I’m even writing this using dictation on my phone.
After 15 years with the disease, I can see it like a hawk in others. The corruption and dishonesty of government, I can get my head around that, what I can’t get my head around, is how anybody could stand by and watch a loved one humiliated on a global scale. Can you imagine? Think of someone you love, struggling with a disease like that, being mocked by millions, jokes about them soiling themselves, jokes about their physical state of being. I absolutely couldn't stand by a watch my dad or granddad face that kind of cruelty. It’s so alien to me.

Nana insists that I work in the memory care section of the nursing home she and Grandpa live in, and is convinced I come and visit her everyday. I live on the opposite coast than they do. It's a pleasant and encouraging fantasy for her though, so I asked Gramps to let her indulge in it. It's made her a lot happier over the last several months. That's all that matters to me.

My wife, age 75, has suffered with ischemic vascular dementia for a number of years now, and now her physicians are talking "end stage." Fortunately, she continues to be cheerful and non-combatant, yet, despite a host of obvious cognition issues and the inability to converse, she does not think she is sick. I believe old Joe is in the same boat, in that he doesn't know or want to believe how sick he really is. And those in his inner circle likely have no intention of helping him come to grips with that. Too much power, influence and money at stake. Frightening on so many levels! God, help us!

Some questionnaires will ask things like "of Biden and Trump who do you approve of as leader?"
With framing, you will have some people who decline to say either. But most will say one or the other.

We don't need a test to confirm what we can all see.
True, but the tests are quick, verbal, and simpler than you might imagine. During that 22 minute interview he could have been challenged by the untrained interviewer with a standard dementia test question that takes exactly 60 seconds of his time. No need to conduct it in private. These are tests care workers spontaneously conduct in the field.

I’ll offer My analysis.
I have Parkinson’s. So does Biden. I’m 44, diagnosed 15 years ago. I’m unfortunately an expert in the disease and can identify it easily in others. Watching Biden, I’m looking in mirror. Btw, Sometimes my meds work, called being “on”. Sometimes they don’t, “off”. On or off is near impossible to control. I can literally go from off to on during a conversation (like the debate). Because of on/off nature, he will pass a cognitive test if he’s “on” and it will be used to say he’s fine. But if he took the test when “off”, he will not do well. He might even switch between on/off during the test. That’s how unpredictable this disease is. Ask me how I know…

This man had a subarachnoid hemorrhage (ruptured brain aneurysm) in 1988 followed by 2 brain surgeries, one to clip the ruptured aneurysm and a second for an additional unruptured aneurysm. He then spent extended time in neuro rehab. This is no secret. It’s in his Wikipedia entry and occasionally-*very* occasionally-mentioned in other brief biographies. He clearly made a good recovery in most respects, but no one comes through all that without some damage, especially with the technology and techniques of 1988. A young healthy person can compensate for the damage to a degree; but that reserve and ability to compensate diminishes with age. His entourage is no doubt familiar with his issues and how to help, but they can no longer hide things. Someone with this neurological history should have had MRI scans and neuropsychological evaluation done and made public before he was ever in a position to have his finger on the proverbial button. If he is in great shape and it’s all a nothing, wonderful! Miraculous! But prove it. This is not about personal ambition, it’s about the fate of the world….

Are you a neurosurgeon/neurologist or doctor? How do you know that the surgery would affect him cognitively decades later? I had a craniotomy and it never affected me cognitively, granted I was in my 20s and he was in his 40s. But I wouldn't make that assumption without a medical background. Everything about what's going on appears due to degenerative age related conditions.

I am 2 weeks away from being 88. I took a complete cognitive test purely for my own satisfaction. I scored overall 29 out of 30. On the memory test I scored only 28, one point down because I got the date wrong.

I get the date wrong fairly often... Always have, even when I was a teenager. It's not something that concerns me in day to day life. I care if it's Monday or Tuesday, etc. But I don't care what number is assigned to those days. In the few instances I need to know for planning, I look it up.

The reality of this situation has nothing to do with Donald Trump or with Joe Biden taking a test. The reality is that this elderly man is not up to performing the duties of his office. He does not have the mental stamina to think and speak on his feet.
