Thank you for the advice. I have gotten a few comments about the music in my videos and I am working on it. I'm not sure if you have seen my last couple of videos, but let me know if the volume of the music getting better. Or do you think I shouldn't use background music at all? Let me know you thoughts. Thanks for watching
I love this video!! So many good things for us ADHD-brained folks!! I love the music, but the volume made it slightly hard to hear and focus on your voice, which focus is tough for me anyway LOL. If it could be about 25% quieter it would have been perfect for me! Just my feedback, thanks for sharing!!
I love colouring in the check box after I've completed a task. Omg it feels so good. Also I've tried to get cleaning to feel satisfying and I think maybe that's releasing dopamine. I call it resetting the space back to its original clean state. Took many many years to get it in my head
As someone with ADHD, here’s what I’ve found helps me with task initiation. 1. Set a timer. I’ve been using a task management tool called Sunsama that allows me to estimate the time for each task AND set a time when I’m doing it. It’s been completely game changing for me. 2. Set deadlines with external accounting for my work projects. For example, if I plan to host a webinar, I advertise the webinar publicly, get people signed up then work on the presentation. I need projects with set goals, I need to feel the pressure. 3. Keep it simple with tasks. I usually plan to much which leads to overwhelm so I’ve been working on estimating my time and usually I can do half of what I set out to do.
That camera trick for body doubling! Also serving as a way for brain explosions to be recorded? GENIUS! I will now be hyper focusing on how to implement this solution into my day to day life.
My issue with Task Management is that it's my safe place I go to not to get anything done, but get something done. I hear "Rich why wasn't this done?" Then I'm too embarrassed to say "Because I got distracted planning it in task management. Which my old system needed to be revamped for the 20th time because this one seemed more interesting to me until I got halfway through it then this other one was more efficient then I got about a quarter of the way through planning it out there........... no, no, no the original system was best so let's go back to that. Oh look it's time to clock out."
Ok I know exactly what helps. . . A kindergarten teacher did this. . 1) Play any Screensaver or nature scenes on a screen 2) play a sound track. .music. .classical or something that keeps playing . .while working. . Bc when your brain tires of attending then it shifts to view screen saver/ music . .rests briefly. .then bounces back to attending. To task.. It's a miracle worker. . I never have seen more focused class ever anywhere.
I spend more time planning than actually doing. I love your video. Love the tip about finding the deeper meaning! I think that will help me more than any other. Thank you!
These were great! I have a doctorate in physical therapy, have 3 kids and a wife and I'm just starting to learn that I probably have undiagnosed ADD/ADHD based on hearing patients talk about their symptoms and how they manage the condition... Listening to your tips, the reasons and what you feel with them makes so much sense to why I've done some of them in the past and why I feel overwhelmed when I lose those disciplines!
This video made me rethink my approach to productivity. I've been trying Astirna New Tab lately, and it helps me stay organized with its to-do lists and easy access.
Diagnosis is very important in the management of your disorder as not everyone has adhd the same. One of my earlier tests during diagnosis called the Brown Scale test, which helped me to understand how badly mine was.
Great content but for me the background music was a bit overwhelming. I don't need it gone, but I'd love the music to be barely audible in the background. I am the person who asks my wife to mute the TV when she wants to talk with me, so maybe that's just me...
No that's not just you! LOL i have become aware of how loud my background music is. I think I'm so zoned in to editing that it's difficult for me to get the background audio at the right level.
Your TH-cam channel deserves far more views. The color, the background, the music and ofcourse the content are great. Keep them coming. I keep two lists with me - aha and oho. Aha for all the ideas, random tangents etc and oho - for all problems - getting groceries to sending an email. Most importantly, it helps with clearing the distractions off my mind and continue to work whatever I was working on. My two cents. May I recommend using tags on your videos?
I LOVE the music you add to all your videos! It is one of your awesome quality signatures that separate your vids from others! Besides you being you which I think you are incredible! Along with all the great and amazing content you put out. Along with how very informative your vids are! The music you add to your vids keep me that much more engaged compared to other ADHD channels and vids where it's just someone just talking. It can become very mundane to listen to at times and then I lose focus or interest! 😂
I really like the way your tips harness adhd's good qualities to Counter it's bad qualities! Because it really is more about initiating action and staying on task for me and my adhd. 👍👍
I completely appreciate your approach, form of communication, and visuals with metaphors/examples. Very refreshing. I needed this. Thanks. Can't wait to learn more with you.
Work can be a real stress-fest, but having some backup can definitely lighten the load. Still, it's frustrating when AI just can't seem to grasp what you really need. Case in point: I come home to a stack of a thousand spreadsheets to fill out and 50 emails to blast out after a grueling 12-hour workday. 😩 It's a major bummer because by the time I'm done, my productivity's tanked, and it feels like I'm just spinning my wheels...
It's a real hassle all around when you're tackling a project that needs to be developed quickly and requires unique research. This whole process becomes cumbersome, slowing down my workflow. Finding the exact solution is rare and quite challenging. 😓 It feels like hitting a wall sometimes!
There's a ton of help out there online, but there's a big difference between a digital assistant and a digital taskmaster. Not too long ago, I was working on a project that involved wrangling a spreadsheet with 2500 characters, each needing to be unique. I tried searching for solutions, but it didn't help one bit. Ended up having to ditch the whole project...
Man, this stuff is hitting way too close to home. You've got this massive workload on your plate while you're trying to develop an idea, but you're getting bogged down because you don't have any helping hands. It's seriously slowing down my progress on developing it..
The thing here is finding the exact help with a better human understanding, accuracy, and timely delivery without errors. I mean, where do you even find such solutions, right? I kept asking myself the same questions until I stumbled upon MAVIC. This dude literally understood everything I needed him to do. He provided me with the accurate research I asked for and completed all the tasks I presented to him..
2:14 "if it does those three things..." wait? What three things? [Me realizing I was distracted by the background music the whole time he was talking] 😭
Just found this channel, and I'm very grateful. (I wish the music was a bit quieter personally.) I have a notebook for work, one for my personal life, and one for creative writing (that's my version of taking videos). It can be hard, because once I've written everything down I tend to avoid it, or forget about it. Like taking a video, but never going back to see the notes you made for yourself. It's still the best system for me that I've found, but wish to god I was more productive. I have to do twice the work for half the results as other people.
I'm so relieved that I am not the only person like this, haha. I've tried paper task lists and journals. I stopped. I tried Notion. I stopped. My problem was trying to use all these other systems that were designed for someone else. My best type of task management is Post-it notes. The only problem I have with it is that it wastes resources over time. But I do get the enjoyment from writing my tasks on one, knocking them out, and then tossing them away.
As for changing language, instead of "I have to/need to do" I use "I can do" or "I will do", or even"what can I do", this bypasses the "no one tells me what to do -not even my self-resistance" 😅 Great video 🥳
3:54 “researching something I’m hyperfixated on” is way too relatable 4:32 6:38 8:09 i actually tried doing this myself in the past, i should try to do it more for better consistency
I have those tiny DJI microphones, when I walk in nature I often get all kind of idea's I just record them now Then I import it into Microsoft word's transcribe function and then I put the whole bunch in an A.I. and ask it to streamline it an make into a tasklist. This list I paste into things 3 who seperates it automatically. Yeah... it works.
Having a body double is a great idea. Wow. It works great and is so convenient. I always have a body double at my side now to help- in the shower, at the gas station, in meetings, in bed late at night, etc. Great recommendation- very helpful.
Love the content in these vids, but can you please tweak the background music to audio volume ratio? Maybe it's one of my inattentive traits but made listening for the nuggets of info just that little bit harder. Currently they sound 50:50 to the voice... Would you consider seeing what others thinks. Cheers, love your work.
Just found your channel. It's excellent to see this. I thought of a camera watching me. Yet I love video out in natural surroundings. It's been 3 years and I just can't get in to the groove to get content out there. I got over 1500 vids, and a lot of short story ideas etc. No cigar. Hired a coach. Had to quit. Not happy with the progress. Your video alone has given me a missing piece of the puzzle that is my goal. Thanks.
I tried to watch this but the loud music not only prevented me hearing what you were saying but for someone who has had ADHD for over sixty years "are you kidding " if you really have ADHD how are you not going to be distracted by that? Sorry, i can't watch this.
Yes the task management wording has to be changed. I shut down, I always say I rebel against myself when I tell myself "I have to". I try to trick brain with different wording. Bc I'm a visual person, the most helpful strategy to get myself motivated is to watch TH-cam videos of the task I'm trying to get motivated to do...cleaning, organizing. I like body doubling, I don't use them to push me or shame me, I just feel better when I have someone over and I can whistle while I work 😉
Great content! I definately struggle with the "Have to" vs "want to" and am going to try adding your suggestion. I'm going to us "I 'want' to do this because..." though, just to remove the 'have'. It's like a trigger word or something. I also like the camera suggestion. Hoping that will help with accountability. Thanks for putting this out there!
Absolutely perfect, and if I'm consistent about using "want to" instead of "have to"/"need to", then I don't usually even need to stop and think of a "because." Because sometimes it's as simple as "because it's what the job requires and I like my job overall," or, "because all my clothes/dishes/surfaces are dirty and I need something to wear/eat from/sit on."
I have a problem with "want to" because I feel it doesn't fully capture importance nor desire, and I feel it comes off as "I only do what I want to do" which, while that may be fundamentally true, I think the issue really is motivation and, more broad speaking, executive functioning capacity. I'd like a concise, simple way of saying, "this is something I've decided I will attempt to do" without sounding confused about what matters, what needs to be done for effective/healthy/constructive action/outcomes, etc.. Like, for example, taxes, laundry, finding a new place to live when my lease is up, applying for jobs, etc. where I subjectively dislike/hate/do not enjoy the tasks, but at the same time, find it necessary to find the motivation to take meaningful action towards these endeavors.
Heyo Steve, glad the search engine steered me to this vid. I'm in my 4th year of CS and simultaneously trying to develop life management skills alongside the demands of school the anxiety of job searching, imposter syndrome brink of I'm not built for this mentality, content like this is really helpful cuz u seem to keep it real, its nice to see creators that make an effort to be a positive parasocial influence in people's lives real talk. All the fuckin grifty scammy shit on platforms legit sucks the life out of people. I fuck with your style boss, catch u later maybe one day I'll try and start a channel similar. Cool af.
You should use video transcription and a specific term to act as a flag for the new idea. Have the video transcribed and program a rule to pull out the transcribed ideas following your trigger word.
I am a mixture of both. I do need a decent task management system to be in place because otherwise I end up in a loop of starting something, remembering something else I need to do, starting that thing, remembering another task... Each time I remember something it derails me and I end up in a loop getting nothing meaningful done. However, if I have my tasks managed and I'm not convinced I'm forgetting something important (or at least less convinced I'm forgetting something important) it is easier for me to start something and keep going with it. But I do still have to convince myself to start...
Hi I just found your channel and I am loving these tips! The “body double without the body” idea is intriguing. I was just thinking about that bc I don’t really have someone available to body double with during the day. The lady I was just to look up a TH-cam “study with me” video and see if that would work but I also like your idea so I may try that as well.
I can really relate to needing a reason to do things and also being accountable (but not being watched by someone else). I really wish I could talk to you about a few things. What do you do for a living? I’ve been thinking about getting into photography. I can’t do a 9-5 office job. It drives me crazy. I’m currently in sales/lead generation but I don’t like sales. :-/ Great content and information. Thank you!
Let me know how it works out for you. It really does help me out be a little more productive. Plus I don't feel judged if I happen to stray aways from what I am supposed to be doing. LOL
Thanks a bunch, this was helpful! I watched this because I'm hyper-focusing on task management systems right now and intuitively I know I'm lying to myself and telling myself it will fix everything lol.
Thank you so much for watching. I use story blocks for my stock footage. I use artist for my music and and they recently added stock footage to their plans. Im looking into their plains to see if it’s a better fit. Plus it would be nice to have everything in one place.
I've just started my new (and hopefully last) task management system. It involves only focusing on one task at a time. This is the part that really opened up the world of ADHD productivity to me. What I did was create five lists: - One Routine Task - One Personal Task - One Business Task - Inbox - All Tasks The first three aren't actually lists, because there's only one task on each of them at any given moment. But for the sake of argument, I call them lists. Also, I'm using TickTick for the system. I've found that it's the most useful and affords me the most control. If anyone needs help setting up such a system, or wants to talk about their ADHD with respect to productivity, I'd be happy to talk.
I'd love to hear about your setup in TickTick. I saw you can estimate the time and set a pomodo focus for that task to improve estimating how long things take. My wife and I work together and use Asana but I find it overwhelming.
So enjoyed the content and personality of this video. Do you happen to have the name of the ADHD coach on TikTok you mentioned? Thanks again bro, super helpful vid!!
Wow amazing content! The video quality and content is top notch! I recently have come to the realisation that i have adhd at 35. Keep up the good work. I subbed. Peace!
This is great I’m so many ways. I literally spend hours looking for ways to get me to do all the things I don’t want to do. Your so right. How many things can I actually get done now. Haha. Awesome work.
So here's what I do: I use TickTick as a TO-DO list and put everything I need to do there. Everyday I create a list for the day and write all the things I want to do in the day. When I have something that is not that important and can be delayed I put it in the DELAYD list of to-dos. For more complex planning I use either Joplin or Obsidian. Joplin comes when I know I will need the notes at easy access on my smartphone. Obsidian comes when I'm planning some Long-Term idea that I want to do and because I don't have any synchronization mechanism, it's only stored on my notebook (I know, I need to solve this problem). To do boring tasks like washing the dishes I listen to interesting podcasts or good music. To overcome the task initiation barrear it is basecally dependent on how good I was in breaking the task in small and direct steps and write it in the TickTick TO-DO list. The other method for task initiation is starting a counter when I decide to start the task so I will be motivated to not get distracted, because if I get, then I will have to stop the counter, since what we want here is honesty in how much time we are taking to get the task done. With this you will know how long specific tasks takes to you and will be able to better plan your day. To do this I use an android app called Simple Time Tracker.
Supposedly eyes are like you described with your camera. It’s a gargoyle effect. Supposedly if there’s eyes on a billboard nearby, the theft rate is lower. Maybe try a post-it note with a cartoon eyeball. 😀
THESE ARE IDEEAS THAT WILL WORK! THAT'S DIFFERENT...THANJK YOU, I WILL BE BACK. NOW I MIGHT GET THAT BOOK DONE AND THE PAINTING DONE AND EVEN THE RUG VACUUMED.
Should stop the music after the intro. Makes it harder to focus on the content/dialog
@@stevewithadhd it's wayyyy better in the latest ones. Very subtle and doesn't interfere. That's the way forward imho
If you want to keep the background music, you can EQ the music to not overlap in terms of wave range with your voice.
I was just going to the comments to say this. I had to watch it on mute with captions to be able to focus on the content.
Weirdly the music keeps me focused on the content. My brain mutes the music because it’s repetitive, but I can see it being distracting for most.
5:30 Having ADHD is spending 20 minutes looking for the perfect podcast to listen to when you have to do a 5 minute task :)
oh man I'm doing it right now
😅 +1
Yes!😅
I’m up to a hour now 😂
I feel so called out lol
I just started using Astirna New Tab, and it really simplifies task management for my ADHD brain. It's nice to have everything in one place.
I love this video!! So many good things for us ADHD-brained folks!! I love the music, but the volume made it slightly hard to hear and focus on your voice, which focus is tough for me anyway LOL. Same, music volume to high!
I agree -- the music is very distracting and makes it hard for me to focus on what Steve is saying.

The music is soooo loud and distracting that I'm having a full blown rock concert in my room with your voice talking over it! 😂🎉🫡😝🤟

Thank you for saying this. This is me 100%
That’s exactly how it is for me. Spending time to come up with a system to track, schedule stuff. Then never look at it or not following it…
Dude, this is me on a weekly basis.
😢hours later…😭😭😭
What are you doing inside my brain😂?
Ok I know exactly what helps. . .

Very good video. Those who have it, get it. Those who don’t, won’t
Thanks!
Apart from the music being too loud, I really enjoyed this video. It's so different from the other ADHD advice everyone keeps spouting. Thanks, Steve.
Oh, wonderful tips.
I only wish you would give the option to listen to your clever tips WITHOUT the music.
That would help me tons! AlL the best
Looping is highly applicable
. .you have a basic list of . . Say daily or week. . Keep cycling through list.. .like circle.
I really like the way your tips harness adhd's good qualities to Counter it's bad qualities! Because it really is more about initiating action and staying on task for me and my adhd. 👍👍
Loving the tips & content. Getting distracted by the volume of the background music though. Had to watch/listen twice to get through it.
+1
+1 too :)
I’m late to the party. But ditto!
I completely appreciate your approach, form of communication, and visuals with metaphors/examples. Very refreshing. I needed this. Thanks. Can't wait to learn more with you.
Watched 30 seconds then immediately subscribed. This guy gets it!

I realize I’m late to viewing this, but by far this is best channel for this topic I’ve seen. Dude, keep at it.
Just found this channel, and I'm very grateful. (I wish the music was a bit quieter personally.)

That camera body double idea is brilliant. Gives me reason to make/buy a desk mount.
All 4 great are tips for me as I move from relying on external motivation to internal.

Another suggestion is "I want to..." That tends to work very well for me, when I remember to use it!
I like, "It would be effective/a good idea for me to do X..." with optional "because" 🥰
I dislike "I should do X..." 😜
I say, I get to...
3:54 “researching something I’m hyperfixated on” is way too relatable

6:38
8:09 i actually tried doing this myself in the past, i should try to do it more for better consistency
Is this a test? It's hard to focus on what he is saying because of the loud background music/noise. I need to focus more.
Just wanted to come by and comment that I’m finding your videos really helpful. I hope my comment encourages you to continue to post.
Fantastic video. This really contextualized some things I've been struggling with for a while in a really useful way. Thank you!
great video bro but the music is far too loud whilst youre talking I cant focus lol
nice video but music too loud for my ADHD brain I can't focus
I have those tiny DJI microphones, when I walk in nature I often get all kind of idea's I just record them now Then I import it into Microsoft word's transcribe function and then I put the whole bunch in an A.I. and ask it to streamline it an make into a tasklist.

Yeah... it works.
Omg. Love the energy in the beginning, but the music makes me crazy! Can't see it through!
Don't know what he said but those guitar solos were really cool
I’ve loved your videos since the first one I watched and you use Notion…now that’s FIRE!! 🔥 Hope you don’t stop putting out content.
Having a body double is a great idea. Wow. It works great and is so convenient. I always have a body double at my side now to help- in the shower, at the gas station, in meetings, in bed late at night, etc. Great recommendation- very helpful.

I like body doubling, I don't use them to push me or shame me, I just feel better when I have someone over and I can whistle while I work 😉
These are great ideas. Thank you!
I Get to...is also one that works. It's great to side step the rebel brain that doesn't want to be told what to do. I get to because...
Really interesting take on body double. 🙌 . Thanks for the tips!
With your phone, even without recording you always have a body-double in the NSA! Thanks, NSA, for keeping me on task. 👍
Never thought about that, but that really matters for me how I come up setting tasks and a big why! Thank you!
Cool af.
i watched this video instead of starting my homework.
You should use video transcription and a specific term to act as a flag for the new idea. Have the video transcribed and program a rule to pull out the transcribed ideas following your trigger word.
It's a persuasive argument. Great edit too. Thanks for sharing.
You nailed the problem, my brotha!
Fantastic audio mixing in this video dude. The music is really helping me stay focused
Yeah some things just dont work. And i have tried it a million times myself. Im still continuing to find whay works for me and what doesnt.
Thank you!
the last one very helpful m gonna try it
The musics too loud
I love the body double without the body! I'm going to try this at work
Let me know how it works out for you. It really does help me out be a little more productive. Plus I don't feel judged if I happen to stray aways from what I am supposed to be doing. LOL
Great Tips!! Thank you for that!!! Keep this coming!!!
great video, music was a bit too loud though
Thank you, sir
🥰
I am working on simplifying everything. Simplify! simplify! Write down 100 tasks? Take away 95 of them and put them in the "Maybe Later" folder.
thanks for the content. curious on the task managing app you used at 6:26
That looks like Notion!
Thanks a bunch, this was helpful! I watched this because I'm hyper-focusing on task management systems right now and intuitively I know I'm lying to myself and telling myself it will fix everything lol.
It's good to have faith/hope IMO. If you don't trust yourself or how you do, it's worthwhile I believe to assess and reflect.
Agreed, please cut the music after the intro.
Super helpful video! Where do you get your stock footage from? I really like the b-roll you use!
What I did was create five lists:
- One Routine Task
- One Personal Task
- One Business Task
- Inbox
- All Tasks
The first three aren't actually lists, because there's only one task on each of them at any given moment.
I have to ask, do you really truly rewatch those recorded notes? Or do you switch from system to system?
Bouncy hands ❤😂❤😂 love the design 😍
actual video starts at 1:32
Just stumbled unto your videos and WOW excellent content!
I had that thought of video taping self. .
You sent my ADHD mad in seconds of that music over you talking. Cant focus on that 😂🙈
Use google keeps a little place to keep any kind of note
So glad I found you!
I subbed. Peace!
I'm 4:57 in and i tried to continue, but that music is too loud
Why this music? İt feels like you advertise bbq sauce
This is great I’m so many ways. I literally spend hours looking for ways to get me to do all the things I don’t want to do. Your so right. How many things can I actually get done now. Haha. Awesome work.
So here's what I do:
I use TickTick as a TO-DO list and put everything I need to do there.
I want to watch your video, but I can barely hear you over the music.
Why the music cuh. Valuable information that I can’t focus on due to it be louder than it should
