It provides a window with a deadline so you don't get off task and you can relax for 30 minutes without guilt since it also has a limit built in. Oh wow, 30 30 sounds like a great technique! Different to pomodoro. It may have looked like I was multitasking, but generally it was just being confident in when to switch to another task and doing that rapidly. That ment having a running list of priorities and to-dos on paper and some in my head. At most I was passively working on 1 task while actively on another task. But at any 1 second I was only focused on 1 thing with all my energy. Immediately as that task was done, or had to be waited on, I used the time for something else. But I usually had the supplies of that other task close by so it was seemless to switch back and forth.

One is a timesheet summary (because I'm usually too busy/unmotivated to fill it out at the end of the day), and the other is called "Breadcrumbs", which is a list of clues of what I should be focusing on when I start work the next day. The first thing I do the next day is read the breadcrumbs, check my inbox and the chat channels. Then write a note called "Daily Standup" ready for the 15-min daily team meeting, answering the three questions, what did I do yesterday, what am I doing today, what blockages do I have.

Lisa Michelle Pacillas really seems to know her stuff. I found her online-page, read through her resume, educational background, qualifications and it was really impressive. She is a fiduciary who will act in my best interest. I would sure render her services

you had me at corporate lawyer and TH-camr and maintain healthy relationships, exercise, still have time to see friends, watch tv......as an ex-lawyer, like whoaaaa you are awesome! I had no idea it was possible to have a life as a corporate lawyer 😆thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and packing down everything you've learned, hours and hours of reading into this bite size video for us 💐
Something that helped me immensely was setting an alarm once an hour to stretch and move around (I would do two laps around the house). I noticed that especially when i had a difficult task it would make me think about that task and come up with more elegant/efficient solutions, rather than going with the first thought. I suppose it's kind of the same as what you mentioned of "just think about the task for 5 minutes =) thank you for the video. good work.
The multitasking example is also a good form of temptation bundling in which you pair something you want to do with something you need to do. It’s a great way to look forward to, and enjoy chores.
Liam, I have to compliment you regarding your product placements. You really know how to fit them naturally into your videos and you are the first person from who I actually try them out. I really appreciate that. This isnt the first video i noticed this. Keep this up :)
The last tip is super helpful from my experience i have a menial job which i don't like at all i just drag my feet to work everyday and i feel time passes slow so as i am able to do this job on autopilot i decided to start putting on my earpods and learn french and spanish i would have 8 hours a day just constant learning and i think i will be so surprised by how far i can go if i just stay consistent and never slack off i think 1 year would make a huge difference
I do the same thing! While my desk work requires thought, my day-to-day lab work mostly doesn’t and so I now spend my workday listening to podcasts in Spanish, French, or German. It’s interesting and relaxing and very casual way to get 2-8 hours of listening in without having to use more of my personal time.
Hi Liam, I am hugely inspired by your energy to keep improving and tirelessly pushing ahead. I listened to your video as podcast during my work and now I am thinking to start my own business!
Hey Liam How do you carry on with your day when you lack sleep? Do you rely on coffee/green tea or do you have methods hopefully you're willing to share?
Discovering Hidden Time Wealth has been one of the best things I've done for my productivity. It feels like I’ve finally cracked the code to overcoming procrastination.
Omg best video of all times… this is what I was looking for for a long long time, something that is very practical and actionable with more easy to adopt measures. Thank you! Excited to go in to work tomorrow…..
Finally some useful tips, that seem realistic. I can already see who it will benefit my own life. Probably going to watch this video again after time has past, so I can reflect and adapt if necessary. I've been searching for a while to improve my efficiency in life.
All this is extremely helpful and makes absolute sense. The only fly in the ointment: You do not necessarily get that luxury of being able to block yourself out if you work in an office. If you are really in the zone you can count on it with 100% reliability that someone is going to stick their head in and demand that you do something else, for them, real quick and right this instant. This completely kills your flow. I have been there so many times and it is very irritating.
We call this kind of distraction "hey-joe tasks". Like "hey joe, can you do this for me?". If you can, learn to block people kindly and ask to come back later or stick to processes. If something needs to be done "really quick" it is usually due to lack of planning on someone else's side and should not become your problem. Unless you work in an emergency room or you are an incident responder of any kind. I used to work as a IT infrastructure admin and people constantly came up with hey-joe tasks. Luckily we had a ticket system, so unless the company was at risk, I developed the habit of declining people and made them stick to processes. Of course I could have done most tasks easily, but I would have lost focus of my actual task. Today I work in information security on a more holistic level, but the problem persists. The people and the kind of tasks change, but the overall problem of hey-joes does not go away. I still have to strictly manage myself and I am still working on educating others to respect the time of their fellow human beings. My direct boss is also of this kind. He likes to use video calls for nonsense without a real reason, no matter if you set your status to "lunch break" or "do not disturb".
I sit in an area that is out in the open and might as well have "Information Desk" above my seat in neon lights LOL I put a sign on my desk while my earbuds are in (it looks like I'm on a call, but I'm listening to music to GSD 😉). My sign says: "Do not disturb me - I am on a call. Unless you have an emergency, please come back later. Thank you so much!" Most people respect the sign and return or DM me later.
The different desktop example really struck me. I knew it was a feature before, but I could never figure out how it would be useful personally. Different desktops for different projects/modes of working = brilliant! I am looking forward to trying it especially at work. If you use Mac, i have heard of the Arc browser which does a similar thing (different "workspaces") but in a web browser. It is currently only available on Mac, but I am so excited for it to come out on Windows.
You can run multiple desktops on one Windows computer. Windows Key + Ctrl + D - opens a new virtual desktop. Windows Key + Ctrl + F4 - closes the current virtual desktop. Windows Key + Ctrl + Left/Right - switches to the virtual desktop on the left or right.
Yes! Desktops to boost focus ftw! To take it even further, I like to hide any taskbar icons on the right (I'm a Windows user) so I don't see even any of the notification badges on Slack or Telegram while I'mfocusing. Another thing I like is grouping tabs in Chrome. It works wonders, cutting distractions from tabs you need to have open but which aren't related to what you're working on.
I found your TH-cam channel about 3 weeks ago and it gave my excitement to work conscious and productive a huge boost. Thank you for your great content Liam! :)
I worked in an office up until recently, the down side were that I was constantly interrupted to cover staff or assist with tasks, when co workers were busy, away or out in the field with clients, multi tasking is not very good because your constantly having to re trace your steps and pick up where you left. I run my own business and I can completely schedule things without stopping. 1 Start the day early and walk 2.75 km get coffee then read & journal walk home shower 2 Twice a week 9am -11.00 I work solidly at home (office) extremely practical 3 I finish work at 5.30 pm I use a common place workbook & an iPad (minimal) and 1 book I am reading. All my notes for work are in 1 app Click Up I don’t use multiple apps. I take notes on my iPad for clients that sync to apple notes easy and effective
Nice dude. If notifications on different channels are part of the job and if you have kids at home (Office) there is no such thing as 1,5h focussed movie style work lol. Your generation is so blessed
Hidden Time Wealth is so unique. I can’t believe I hadn’t heard about it sooner. It’s amazing how life-changing this can be for anyone battling procrastination.
I have found that listening to LOFI (low fidelity) music on TH-cam helpful to stay focused while sitting and working on a task. It keeps my brain just busy enough in the background to not be looking for distractions.
What a fab comparison: work sessions like a cinema session. I didn't realise I've been doing this for yrs. Friends label me obsessive, I think it's discipline....stare of mind. Feelin good. Cheers!
I agree with all your points except the last one. My views on it : It's very easy to fall into that "always productive" trap. When you are exercising, let's say Yoga, the most important aspect of it is to focus and be mindful of your body movements and your BREATH. You can very well listen to a podcast while doing it, but then you lose out on the whole point of it. You did do that task but you won't get as much benefit from it, as you could. Secondly, tasks like walking, etc can be better designed to just be in the moment and notice the things around you .. let your mind wander instead of putting it up for another task. Just my views :) Great video, thanks for sharing :)
Sorry, but I think that's a bad example. Everyone agrees Yoga is not only a "Body" thing, it's also a "Mind" thing. I think the "Brain-Body" suggestion merely applies to mundane stuff, like listening to audiobooks while doing the dishes. BUT I ALSO GET WHERE YOU"RE COMING FROM because the point of mindfulness is to be at the present moment, so I guess that's what the meditation teachers will tell you -- walk mindfully, be present at the moment, etc etc. But personally I think I'll lose out on a lot of productive time if I didn't listen to my audiobooks while doing chores, I just happen to do A LOT (like a MILLION) of them, i.e., household chores. Same with the channel owner, he's a corporate lawyer, so i imagine he does a lot of 9-5 and overtime, so he has to stretch out his productive hours 💛
Great video, one thing I do when batching is I batch by location, so I keep a list of jobs for different locations then when I am in a certain location I can do the jobs that need to be done in that town or location.
Not having kids or a pet, probably greatly helps one's ability to master time management. Alas, I have to counter those when I attempt getting into any focus zone, in my "free time" hours outside of my employment work schedule.
I’m excited to try your tip of using multiple desktops! I have a very hard time sticking to one task at a time, and this will make it much harder to jump around.
Been doing all of them for the past year, had read many books about topics like focus, time management, and productivity, and by far, this is the best quick guide that I’ve seen so far, great work buddy ❤ I’ve been able to achieve great results so far, tho my girlfriend thinks I’m a weirdo😂
Regarding your no. 4, definitely felt that listening to audio books slows down my after dinner kitchen cleaning routine. I guess there are 5 people in my household, the routine is a bit more involved.
Very good tips. I was pleased to note I do a lot of your recommendations; I used to lack focus but now wfh is easier than being in office. I stopped going to cinema for the very reasons you mentioned! You are clearly a focused person. Well done and keep going!
I like the cinema idea, thanks for that... I believe the last strategy is habit stacking not multi-tasking... You take one habit and add another eg. Watch TH-cam or while working out
I normally do all what you have listed here, and I have one more for you, this one works the best for those who work at home or who can adjust their work hours freely, I find it very rewarding and I accomplished a lot of work using this practice and that is to work all day for 2-4 days then taking like a big break like 1 week or so, in these 2-4 days I sleep thinking of my work, everything is my work, project, to do list, things to learn, arrange, adjust, fix and a lot of other stuff, and this practice works absolutely amazing if you had like a long course to learn, I might be the only doing something like that lol, but wanted to share my experience, thanks for the video.
you know what, I think you are into something here.....I am a content creator and I keep working everyday until I burn myself with pressure and everything, however, if I apply your system I would expect higher productivity and your system can be shaped in many forms such as ( 2 days work-2 days free) over two weeks or (weekend off and for each day you work you get a free day during the week.. It can be rewarding thus your productivity will be high. Thanks man for sharing.
I wouldnt agree. This type o work is not efficient since to be optimal you must work when you are at your best. Wake up early Work all day with 2/1 hour breaks Repeat 6 days
My understanding of 'Multitasking works by using the brain and the body': It simply means that when you are doing 'second nature' tasks with your body like walking or doing the dishes or watering the plants (everyone may have a some list like this), your brain is free to listen to or think about something else.
From the book Hyperfocus I learned to write down my 3 big intentions for the day side by side, and under each one I write the 1 next action towards accomplishing that intention. I actually put this on a PowerPoint slide on a computer screen, full screen. Then I put a big yellow arrow pointing to the one I'm working on. When my mind gets distracted it automatically goes to the other computer screen. Then that 'distraction' points me back towards my task. It's all about using my conscience brain to lay a trap for my subconscious brain.
Whenever I see editing like this I know the content is gonna be less about genuinely sharing your experience, & more about production, creating content
Good thoughts. Can I have a few question: are you bored watching several movies everyday? How many work sessions you have average? And what do you do between the sessions to get to the next one?
That alarm sound made my eyes open up wide and I peeked into my phone to check why it’s ringing…😞 I even started to hv palpitations… thankfully I hv a better sound now which makes me wake up with a smile 🥺
Off topic but I see you using both Mac products as well as Windows (I assume the Windows OS is a requirement for work). I’d love to see how you make that productivity workflow come together. I think a lot of people (myself included) are forced into that personal/work split and could benefit from your lessons learned.
Double time your activities whenever possible. Eat lunch during meetings. Do work during commute. Take calls in sauna. Etc. Delete activities. Delegate all chores and automate the process to eliminate most of your inputs. (Meal prep, dishes, mow lawn, clean house, laundry)(14hrs) Delete commute or use chauffeur. (7hrs) Delete commute to gym, have a home gym(3.5hrs) Increase productivity per unit time. Accelerate performance using experts to teach.(nutritionist, personal trainer, coaching, wardrobe expert, home decor expert, etc.) Multiply performance using employees. (Personal assistant, researcher, programmer, butler, etc.) Automate workflows using technology. Excel macros, email, repetitive computer tasks, etc.) Multiply productivity by leveraging tools. (AI) Kaizen. No steps backwards.
As for noise, find out what relaxes you most. For some it’s their favorite music, for others it may be the sound of a moving train or car (I’ve recently found I can work best to these “car driving around LA” videos).
1. Treat work sessions like going to the cinema, being prepared and immersing yourself in the task 2. Batch tasks, complete similar tasks together instead of switching between them 3. Delegate and use technology and other resources to avoid work before doing the work 4. Multitask, using both your brain and body at the same time, such as listening to a podcast while doing chores.
Blocking can also work when processing emails. Instead of working through them one at a time, make an initial pass through and categorize them in to reply, do, calendar, delegate, review/file. Then work through each category one at a time.
I've never heard of having different desktops for each project! I need to look into that, I'm famous for having a ton of tabs and its very distracting!
Is use the pomodoro technique that I adapted to pace, I work 35-40 min épand take a 5 min break, doing a quick walk to the kitchen and get my tea, or just squad. But I do prep my week on sundays, it helps a lot, batching the tasks that I need to focus on as well.
Thank you for this inspiring video, @liam.porritt. One question: The distinction between “Batching by Project” and “Batching by tasks” is unclear to me. Might “James” not as well be understood as a task, as a project? And cleaning the entire house might be seen as a weekly “project” no? What I get as the main point is that you ought to focus on one task/project at a time (while in “cinema mode”) and then when it is done, you can move to the next task. Right?
Thank you 1. Cinema mode Treat work session like going to the cinema 2. Batch by project and task Batch task before start 3. Avoid work Try to avoid work before doing the work 4. Multitask You try to multitask
Cinema mode is similar to my dentist chair. Dentist chair is one hour of focused time dedicated to getting a task done that I wouldn't otherwise do because it's boring or menial but needs doing.
separating tasks to different desktops is an idea I might put to use. I hadn't figured out a way to add that feature to my workflow in a useful way. Thanks
Good advice. Just wanted to remind you that your brain is your body, your brain is part of your body, it’s a physical thing made of matter. What you’re talking about is your Mind and your Body.
Wow I love this video, you seem so organised! Couple of comments, the idea of getting into a chair in the office - cinema mode - and never leaving for example to get a glass of water, i'd be stiff as a board if I didn't get up and do something every few minutes, like fetching a glass of water etc. But your appear to be a lot younger and probably fitter than me! Also, the multi-tasking bit at the end, whereby you combine exercise with some kind of brain-work, i used to go for an hour walk and take business calls and listen to audiobooks at the same time, and a nutritionalist advised against it if I wanted to get the most benefit from the exercise. She went into lots of technical detail as to why I should 'just' exercise whcih I have forgotten the details of, but that was only one considered opinion, and not one that I necessarily live by in any case.
Thanks for the video. Very useful. Quick question, what’s the device you’re wearing around your neck and shoulders while stretching at the end? Thanks! 8:44

Lisa Michelle Pacillas really seems to know her stuff. I found her online-page, read through her resume, educational background, qualifications and it was really impressive. She is a fiduciary who will act in my best interest. I would sure render her services
Fascinating bots

you had me at corporate lawyer and TH-camr and maintain healthy relationships, exercise, still have time to see friends, watch tv......as an ex-lawyer, like whoaaaa you are awesome! I had no idea it was possible to have a life as a corporate lawyer 😆thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and packing down everything you've learned, hours and hours of reading into this bite size video for us 💐
I sense irony 😂
Something that helped me immensely was setting an alarm once an hour to stretch and move around (I would do two laps around the house). I noticed that especially when i had a difficult task it would make me think about that task and come up with more elegant/efficient solutions, rather than going with the first thought. I suppose it's kind of the same as what you mentioned of "just think about the task for 5 minutes =) thank you for the video. good work.
The multitasking example is also a good form of temptation bundling in which you pair something you want to do with something you need to do. It’s a great way to look forward to, and enjoy chores.
The batching is something I am going to implement. I tend to multi-task on different projects and I think that is where I lose productivity.
Hi Liam,
I am hugely inspired by your energy to keep improving and tirelessly pushing ahead.
Thanks Liam for introducing the concept of Batching, that really sort out lots of clutters in organizing, and Time management. I appreciated it.
Put a note on your door or desk to not disturb or send email or text to you so you can get back to them later. That's a must!
Exactly. Everything is an emergency in our office. Every 3 minutes.
Same with me!
Thanks so much for this kind comment Mat 🤗😊
This is a great consolidated list thanks you I am excited to start implementing this right away!
You got this!
The soothing melodies of this music have a therapeutic effect on me, allowing me to destress and relax after a long, tiring day.
Nice dude. If notifications on different channels are part of the job and if you have kids at home (Office) there is no such thing as 1,5h focussed movie style work lol. Your generation is so blessed
So good to see your video after very long time. Watched your active recall video in College days.
This is awesome information for work and everyday life, Liam! Thank you!!
Definitely agree with the batching bit! Thanks for the video!
What a fab comparison: work sessions like a cinema session. I didn't realise I've been doing this for yrs. Friends label me obsessive, I think it's discipline....stare of mind. Feelin good. Cheers!
The concept of Hidden Time Wealth blew my mind. It’s like finding a cheat code for productivity and defeating procrastination.
I agree with all your points except the last one. My views on it :
It's very easy to fall into that "always productive" trap.
Just my views :)
Great video, thanks for sharing :)
Thank you for sharing this advice. I'll try all of them.
Amazing productivity video, thank you!
Not having kids or a pet, probably greatly helps one's ability to master time management. Alas, I have to counter those when I attempt getting into any focus zone, in my "free time" hours outside of my employment work schedule.
This right here is quality content! Thank you
I’m excited to try your tip of using multiple desktops! I have a very hard time sticking to one task at a time, and this will make it much harder to jump around.
I've tried batch style for a week and it's help me a lot 👌
Tip #1 is seemingly simple but I've never heard it put that way and I think it will be super helpful. Kudos mate 👏
Been doing all of them for the past year, had read many books about topics like focus, time management, and productivity, and by far, this is the best quick guide that I’ve seen so far, great work buddy ❤
I’ve been able to achieve great results so far, tho my girlfriend thinks I’m a weirdo😂
VERY GOOD video mate! Great tips in there 🙌
Incredible video production quality man, very impressive
Habits are honestly so addicting to get hooked on.
Crucial to develop the right ones.
Regarding your no. 4, definitely felt that listening to audio books slows down my after dinner kitchen cleaning routine. I guess there are 5 people in my household, the routine is a bit more involved.
Funny, as a real estate and corporate lawyer myself, I do all of this and it's spot on. Well done!
Well done to you too, buddy
Liam
Some nice summaries here - great work!
Shorter timeblocks (Parkinsons Law) also helps with focus and flow
Cool, thanks for recommendation 😀 I will try to use them!❤
Very good tips.
Watch TH-cam or while working out
I always watch youtube on 1.75x speed. It saves so much time
I normally do all what you have listed here, and I have one more for you, this one works the best for those who work at home or who can adjust their work hours freely, I find it very rewarding and I accomplished a lot of work using this practice and that is to work all day for 2-4 days then taking like a big break like 1 week or so, in these 2-4 days I sleep thinking of my work, everything is my work, project, to do list, things to learn, arrange, adjust, fix and a lot of other stuff, and this practice works absolutely amazing if you had like a long course to learn, I might be the only doing something like that lol, but wanted to share my experience, thanks for the video.
you know what, I think you are into something here.....I am a content creator and I keep working everyday until I burn myself with pressure and everything, however, if I apply your system I would expect higher productivity and your system can be shaped in many forms such as ( 2 days work-2 days free) over two weeks or (weekend off and for each day you work you get a free day during the week.. It can be rewarding thus your productivity will be high. Thanks man for sharing.
I can just tell I couldn't do that.
We are all so different.
A vacation of 1 week after every 2-4 days of work? Year right. Totally possible.
I wouldnt agree. This type o work is not efficient since to be optimal you must work when you are at your best.
Wake up early
Work all day with 2/1 hour breaks
Repeat
6 days
My understanding of 'Multitasking works by using the brain and the body': It simply means that when you are doing 'second nature' tasks with your body like walking or doing the dishes or watering the plants (everyone may have a some list like this), your brain is free to listen to or think about something else.
Reading and takes note +todo list will chang your life if you do what you read & what you wrote
Thank you!!! Video was very informative and presented well.
Thanks Liam, really informational!
All of your suggestions revolve around "FOCUS". Loved it. May be Meditation will help more...
I really like some of the ideas here, especially batching.
Love your content and information, especially about batching...
I am in that same situation. Mac at home, Windows at work. I would love to see others workflow on this as well. GREAT suggestion.
Now all I need is something to fill up all those saved hours.
To quote Charlie from Two & half men - "I make it look easy."
Double time your activities whenever possible.
Eat lunch during meetings.
Do work during commute.
Take calls in sauna. Etc.
Delete activities.
Delegate all chores and automate the process to eliminate most of your inputs. (Meal prep, dishes, mow lawn, clean house, laundry)(14hrs)
Delete commute or use chauffeur. (7hrs)
Delete commute to gym, have a home gym(3.5hrs)
Increase productivity per unit time.
Accelerate performance using experts to teach.(nutritionist, personal trainer, coaching, wardrobe expert, home decor expert, etc.)
Multiply performance using employees. (Personal assistant, researcher, programmer, butler, etc.)
Automate workflows using technology. Excel macros, email, repetitive computer tasks, etc.)
Multiply productivity by leveraging tools. (AI)
Kaizen. No steps backwards.
As for noise, find out what relaxes you most. For some it’s their favorite music, for others it may be the sound of a moving train or car (I’ve recently found I can work best to these “car driving around LA” videos).
1. Treat work sessions like going to the cinema, being prepared and immersing yourself in the task
2. Batch tasks, complete similar tasks together instead of switching between them
3. Delegate and use technology and other resources to avoid work before doing the work
4. Multitask, using both your brain and body at the same time, such as listening to a podcast while doing chores.
So true about the state of flow! It's how I managed law school!
Thanks for the video bro. it helped me alot ❤
Blocking can also work when processing emails. Instead of working through them one at a time, make an initial pass through and categorize them in to reply, do, calendar, delegate, review/file. Then work through each category one at a time.
Hi! Great video! A little offtop: what phone case do you use?
That was an excellent, clear and concise video with actionable tips. Thank you 👍
Hey Liam, thanks for your helpful videos. Please can you do one on any useful self help/productivity books you have read?
What standing desk do you have?
Great video, very helpful. Thanks for taking the time to make this.
Right?
Thank you
1. Cinema mode
Treat work session like going to the cinema
2. Batch by project and task
Batch task before start
3. Avoid work
Try to avoid work before doing the work
4. Multitask
You try to multitask
Cinema mode is similar to my dentist chair. Dentist chair is one hour of focused time dedicated to getting a task done that I wouldn't otherwise do because it's boring or menial but needs doing.
Podcasts at the gym for the win
separating tasks to different desktops is an idea I might put to use. I hadn't figured out a way to add that feature to my workflow in a useful way. Thanks
Did you ever try to use motion or reclaim?
Good advice. Just wanted to remind you that your brain is your body, your brain is part of your body, it’s a physical thing made of matter. What you’re talking about is your Mind and your Body.
Great vid! Thank you
Love your commitment to improvement Liam!
Thanks Luke 🤗
Guess it can be related with importance of listening to your body and focusing on muscle work and breathing, not some distraction?
Agree, one is suppose to move at least every 40 mins. Helps brain function. Sitting is the new smoking.
I have now spend 3 hours today only on watching reviews on time management routines and applications... the irony
Very good video! Thank you
Thank you for the vidoe❤
I fully agree with using the desktops feature to create work zones on the computer
Thanks for the video. Very useful. Quick question, what’s the device you’re wearing around your neck and shoulders while stretching at the end? Thanks! 8:44
Thank you for sharing this information
