A ship I've always favoured for piracy was the Lucrehulk, though not as a pirate ship itself but a pirate hub, my main idea being it's C-9979 landing craft have long wings with huge carrying capacities, if they were emptied the wings could probably be modified to have external missile racks for dumbfire missiles, something that considering the length of the wings and the fact there are 4, there's a lot of space for them. Imagine a C-9979 dropping out of hyperspace, firing a barrage of ion missiles at a target, then a droch class boarding shuttle or a trident class assault ship latching onto the side and drilling into the target, sounds pretty lethal to me. It's carrying capacity is also very favourable, being able to carry 6k tanks and hundreds to thousands of other ground vehicles, if they were swapped for as many long range starfighters as possible, a single Lucrehulk could harass a whole sector.
I have a crime lord in a Star Wars RPG who dreams of capturing a Lucrehulk and using it as a mobile base and roaming shadows port for her criminal empire
Lucrehulk or venator get the job done however lucrehulks do have a penchant for telegraphing their presence like you're either part of the trade fed and about to blockade a planet or your about to raid the planet with an army of security droids and tax collectors. Who did we get robbed by sir it was a lucrehulk. A lucrehulk you say. Oh the trade fed are gonna hear about this for robbing us when we've been paying the former republic, the empire and now the new republic... - One pissed planet leader.
Quasar would be a good option, lot of space for easy cargo handling and any combination of support craft. maybe the addition of ion cannons and tractor beams might be usefull
I wish Disney would recanonize the employment of Privateers by the Rebel Alliance already. Some buddies and I had tons of fun with Star Wars Privateer campaigns in the old days. While the Nebulon-B is my favorite canon ship class I think the Kossak class Frigate made for the Hutts by Ubrikkian Industries (A subsidiary of KDY) is a better pirate ship. It only carries one Fighter squadron but in addition to the Nebulon-B's Turbolasers and Lasers it carries four twin Ion Cannons. it also carries 90 passengers rather then 75 and a new one is 200,-000 credits cheaper. My issue with Braha'Tok as a pirate ship is how much of its firepower is tied to the Missile Launchers. One of many things I remember from the X-Wing novels and Pirate or Privateer themed Star Wars tabletop RPG campaigns is that finding good Black Market sources for Concussion Missiles and Proton Torpedoes isn't easy. I wonder why the changed the Braha'Tok weapon loadout so much in cannon? In Legends it had two Proton Torpedo Launchers, four Concussion Missile Launchers, two twin Turbolasers, and eight Quadlasers.
Most intersting I think the DP20 Corellian Gunship could be a great Pirate ship for added firepower to a fleet thou the down side is it costs a lot for a ship of its size. I wish they could make a Pirate or Privateer style game for Star wars were you can get a choice if ships to buy over time.
The Nebulon-B Escort Frigate was mainly used by Rebel Alliance-supported Privateers according to Legends, mostly from the Source Book Pirates and Privateers. I always loved that idea.
The SSD Annihilator(name changed to Liberty's Misrule)was captured by the Pirate Elsodie Maracavanya and used as a mobile pirate city. I'd imagine the running costs would be high but its use as a city could use the trade to offset those costs
They surely won a jackpot. I doubt Elsodie would use it for direct acts of piracy... SSD is incredibly crew-intensive and requires regular and competent maintanance. What they could use it is a shadowport, or a tool to racketeer entire star systems into paying them a ransom.
Quasar setup for me would be 1 hangar of fighters, 1 for boarding pods, one for some modified frigates or gunships and 1 for some shuttles and storage the stolen ships can be flew by my crew
A ship I've been looking at recently is the Intersystem Transport or IT-S, it looks great and with it's size it could reasonably be retrofitted with storage, Living areas and even holding cells and it also looks like it would have ample space to retofit extra wepons to the hull but im finding it quite hard to find reliable information regarding this ship what to do think?
Hey have you looked at possible doing an overview video on the A-LT utility astromech droid? Knowing it actually has something basicly nobody noticed: it's also in the game jedi: survivor. In the closet of the bar, you can see it as part of the background at actually the scale of the smaller droid depot astromech units. It is low poly since the dome is hexagonal but it's not even mentionned at the wookiepedia page...
Another great ship that could be used by pirates is an old abandoned Imperial Dungeon ship that was used to transport Jedi prisoners during the Great Jedi Purge after the Clone Wars ended and the Empire emerged.

That wouldn’t be a pirate ship that would be a pirate base

I have thought the exact same thing !
Dreadnoughts and Star Destroyers, I love how roomy they seem and secure. Docking bay is a bonus.
I would like a CR-90 with a extra hanger space added so it could carry 6 to 12 fighter craft. Also add a ion canon.

YU-410 and YV-929

a special gem of a video thanks for making this.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video!

Lancer was 19 long 24 wide in the books
Huh, that’s pretty close to my live-action estimate! What book was this in?

Yarrr! Still gonna hold out fer a Croc-Roc with some of the cargo pods converted to droid fighter bays.

For a good pirate ship I’d want either a class 546 cruiser or a charger c70. That being said I love the video
A 546 would be cool but I think the C-70 would work better as a pirate vessel.

... the Lancer Frigate exists :s
