Just bought a new 2021 S240. 21.5hp Kawasaki motor, digital fuel gage and 48in Accel Deep deck. Leveled deck, and just used for first time. Im REALLY impressed. You're review helped me decide. Thank you
As much as I am loving my S100 I wish I did my homework and chosen the S240. With that being said my question I have is can I change the seat out that comes standard on my S100 to that open seat that is on the S240/X300?
Great video! I’m Trying to figure out what tractor to get for my property As I’m an absolute newbie to tractors, never drove or bought one. Bought a 4.5 acreish land and I’ll be needing to do lawn mowing and snow removal. Dealers say that anything other than 1025R will be under powered. Any idea if S240 can get the job done? Not willing to spend 30k for tractor plus these two attachments.
With that much mowing I would look into something up in the X5 or X7 range. They will have much more power and better snow removal attachments and will still be a fraction of the cost of a 1025R.
Thank you so much for your response! Honestly speaking I wasn’t sure if I’ll hear back, you are the best! Looking into x584 after your comment! God bless you!
Do you think the S240 is tough enough for tree'd property where it's not carpet like this. No real hills just uneven ground, roots etc. Thx for any feedback
Just bought a 50 hour S240. The air filter was filthy so I had to replace it right away. Also replaced the fuel filter. The engine starts quicker now. I really enjoy mowing my City lot with my 48" deck. A bit overkill but my knees love mowing now.
Just bought this tractor about 2 months ago. You didn’t have this video for the s240 at the time, but I did like this video as well as your review on this model. I watched all your other videos on the other JD tractors before my purchase, which was still helpful in guiding me to my decision on the s240. For any others out there like me, the s240 was my first tractor purchase. Never needed tractor before, but we moved and have about 1acre and I push mowed the last year and it’s taking way too much time. The s240 Seemed to have just the right upgrades for my intended needs and use with a relatively flat lawn.I think if my lawn would have had more hills or any steep inclines, I would have went with the X series. Primary use is mowing and will occasionally use for pulling thatcher, aerator, bagger. I do live right off Lake Michigan and get plenty of snow, so I also bought this with possibly using for snow removal. The other models I considered were e130, e150, & e170. My lawn is pretty uneven and bumpy, so I thought the e170 was perfect, however, with the 48” deck, it was too wide to get through my shed doors. Thankfully the s240 came with 42” deck though I was wanting the deeper deck as my lawn is very thick & lush and can be tough to get through. I also prefer to mulch. The s240 does do a pretty good job of mulching with just adding the mulch cover from JD, and still using original blades. I am NOT able to mulch doing full speed, it misses way to many spots. Probably where the deeper 48” deck would have helped. Otherwise no issues and am loving the s240. Thank you for your videos and were extremely helpful as a first time tractor buyer!!
@bryan s Thanks for taking to time to write about your purchase and how you are using the mower. I’m sure it will help other people when making their purchase. Hopefully you are getting more rain where you are at than we are in Oklahoma. We are having to pour water to the lawns just to keep them alive.
I'm looking at this model . Question . 18 hours early power would it be better to get the 42 deck because of the hp . And does this model come with the heavier trans or plastic . Love the review thanks
Honestly, either deck for this mower would be fine. The HP is not an issue being that this is a high spec’d Kawasaki engine that puts out plenty of torque for the 48” deck. It does have the same transaxle as the E100 series mower. Thanks for watching!!
I'm actually heading to one of your locations here in southwestern pa Saturday to pick one of these puppies up! Coming from a 15-20yr old cub cadet 1525 series its gonna feel like a caddy 😎
Awesome! I wish I could say that we had locations in PA, but we are located in western Oklahoma, the Texas panhandle, and New Mexico. I hope you enjoy your new mower and thanks for watching!
I don’t believe so! I would check your steering arms and maybe even pull the dust caps off of your front wheels and make sure the wheels are attached properly.
@@WesternEquipment Thanks! I like modding my D140 to improve it to my personal needs and wants. I did the front wheel bushings to bearings and poor man's power steering mods. Need a few more things to do haha. Appreciate all the videos you put out!
@@WesternEquipment I wanted to update our convo. I received the seat isolators of the s240 to try on my d140 and unfortunately they are too short to work. The odd thing is if you Google s240 seat isolators you will find pictures of isolators with 3 thick layers. The ones I received were 2 thick layers and they did not work. If I can find the part # for the 3 layer ones I may try those amd see if they work.
Just got my S240 on Monday. Really like it. Now, after reading that it has the same transaxle as the E 100 series, I'm worried. Plastic gears in the E100 transaxle? Hope they hold up past the warranty. I just gave my 18 year old LT160 to my son. Now, I'm wondering if should have done that? On the other hand, performance with the S240, currently, is great. It has a much better turning radius than the LT160 did, and I like the mow in reverse feature. These two features save a lot of time. The engine seems strong, and very quiet. I ordered the bagging kit for mine. The S240 mows, and bags grass very well, even when its wet, in the morning. Hardly used any fuel. I just hope it holds up as well as the LT 160 did, that was the reason I bought it. I thought it was an upgrade over the E 100 series.
It is definitely an upgrade. It has the same transaxle as the E110 and up. It has the cast aluminum housing and the nicer hydrostatic transmission. The E100 is the only model with the plastic housing and CVT transmission. I think you made a good choice and it should be a great mower for you for many many years!
@@WesternEquipment Thanks Brent, I really needed to hear that. I am very pleased with the performance, and operation of the mower. I sincerely appreciate your quick and professional response.
Just picked up a used 2020 S240. These numbers are close enough to be solid from my experience. For me it was 9-10 inch grass with 12-16 inch dandelions. 3.5 acres in 3.25 hours (+/- 20 minutes but it was also unknown land, so we had slow points). Note that this was at 4 inch cut height and we only had 4 small (30sq ft) areas where we had to drop to 75% speed to avoid bogging. Oh, and it was all thoroughly wet from a storm an hour earlier.
Actually how fast I can mow isn't my concern... I like spending time on my machine! I would like if you could do a feature about the bagging option for the S240. I went all out and got the MCS6 and find with dry grass (meaning, it did not rain since yesterday) it handles the load very well. I would have preferred the power blower, but I'll just mind how to get the most out of my dump-from-the-seat system. Please let me know if I should encounter problems with the MCS6 if you have replacement parts.
Your videos were very helpful in deciding to pull the trigger on the S240. Not able to get it delivered until July, but can’t wait to stop push mowing my 3/4 acre! Keep up the good work!
@@WesternEquipmentI have to say every single riding mowers zero turn fantastic newer and older mowers 42 decks 54 deck fantastic mowers and start up the deeecks are so gooood
I have an S240 with 42 inch deck and it’s been in the shop 3 times. Spindles went bad and yes I grease them, belts were popping off repeatedly, Electric PTO went bad, deck bearings went bad. All with 100 hrs on it. Not worth the money in my opinion. If I had to do it over again, I would not have spent $2500 on this machine.
Western Equipment ....I’m not sure if the newer S240 is still a 100 series mower with some bling that make it seem like it’s a top end JD mower but mine was probably the first generation of this model. I’m not saying someone should not buy a JD, I’m simply saying that at that price point they can get a better machine if the S240 is still just a 100 series masquerading as a top shelf JD, other than the Kawasaki motor, they can do better with that money.
I've watched most of your mow an acre series but I can't remember all the times of each machine. You should post a chart in the description of each mower that you have tested and the time results for a quick comparison. Hopefully that doesn't detour people from watching the other mow reviews.

How does this mower do on hills? Curious, thanks.
I hear mixed reviews on this all the time. I think it really depends on the type of grass, how tall the grass is, and the amount of moisture.
is there a video anywhere instructing how to properly grease all the grease points of this mower?
In this S240 review I show where all of the grease points are th-cam.com/video/pVMrCqYoCic/w-d-xo.html. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!
