Golden sun 1 and 2 are literally my 2 favorite games of all time. They combined ff style combat system zelda style puzzle solving in dungeons. The djinni had very unique mechanics. Each individual djinn had its own attack, buff, or debuff it provided and once used it goes into a standby mode. While in standby mode 1 or more of them can be used as very power summons. There were djinni of each element and certain combinations of different element djinni could use many different summons. Weapons and armor were also really cool as well, there were regular weapons and named weapons with secondary special attacks that would randomly proc instead of regular attacks. The special attacks. From penultimate weapons from both games even rivally the damage of adept skills and djinni attacks. As far as puzzle mechanics there are a number of adept skills that can be used outside of battle to remove obstacles. I.e. move: to puch objects, lift: to pick up objects, reveal: to show hidden onjects or paths. You could even hotkey two of these skills to l and r buttons to make puzzle solving alittle faster and easier

@Sadist Fake Bootleg Tiki okay, so I’ve played the first two golden sun games, and I really liked them both. The story was great and the puzzles were a perfect blend of creative and hard, but not too hard or weird. But, the biggest hole in the series would be the combat. It’s too simple repetitive and at times boring. I don’t hate it, mostly because the rest of the game is so good. The 2nd half of the games you can just mash “A” to win 98% if the battles. For this reason I can. It say it’s the best RPG ever.

@@theinktician if I was making this list then Golden Sun duo would be no.1, that game taught me JRPG, I still go back to it time to time, this game was the reason I mod my 3ds and bought like 7 in total, I still have 4. I played both Summon Night, they are in my 3ds too, but they are not JRPG actually, they are ARPG or action RPG to be precise. Not to nitpick but Fire Emblem is SRPG, but I don't mind putting them in JRPG lists, since RPG is the key word. I have finished Summon Night duo only once, tried to go back but can't dedicate enough time for it, on the contrary I have always time for Golden Sun, I probably finished them 10 times each, might be more, recently I started on Hard Mode for GS2, but right now playing something else, I intend to go back to it soon again.

BTW Fire Emblem as well, but most people know how good Fire Emblem is and until now every single new release remember us the whole saga, we even have the mobile game these days, but it is so much specific on their system and perma death that I can't even compare it to other game, IMO it is the best of its genre and the reason I buy Nintendo consoles until now.

Golden Sun the Lost Age will always be top for me, don't know why people refer to the first game in this sort of lists (in the second game they did everything better). Another thing I never see in this lists is the Megaman Battle Network series, why? The 5th and 6th game have literally the best battle systems in any jRPG.
Still, including Summon Night and Yggdra Union is a thing only someone who truly knows their jRpgs would do, so hats off to you anyway sir.
Also, indeed, FFIV is the best version on the GBA.

Exploration was open world and not linear. 4 times more post game content and extra bosses. 8 characters instead of 4. 72 Djinn instead of 27, including far more classes and psynergy to get from these. Class changing items that could be equipped to anyone, these having their own Djinn combinations to get different stats and psynergy. Overall it just took what the first game did and gave it more and made it better.

Surprised not to see Final Fantasy Tactics Advance or Phantasy Star Collection here. Given the criteria for jrpg you've used in other videos, I think the Castlevania games would absolutely fit too. Harmony of Dissonance & Aria of Sorrow are two of the very best games on the console. Love the two Fire Emblem games though. Finished Sacred Stones back in November & it prompted me to run out & get a Switch to play Three Houses (a good decision).

  • @doha057

You should have avoided the ports because there are enough GBA exclusive JRPGs. How could you forget Mario Luigi Super Star Saga!!! FF5 deserved to be here more since it was finally localized. Some of the best was Japan exclusive, best in the series, the 3rd Summon Night is being translated slowly and Mother 3. Zelda Minish Cap or Pokemon (I know you are not a fan), but play the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, you will love it, its not like traditional Pokemon games.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team was the only PMD for GBA, right?
I hear the DS was the golden age for PMD and where anyone new to the series should start, I found Explorers of Sky while bargain-hunting.

Man can I ask a question a bit out of subject?
I am mostly love western RPG but there is one game that I really fell in love - Final Fantasy X. It was the strongest impression. The story was perfect, extremely emotional.
    Can you recommend something similar?

    • @sherrdreamz7232
      @sherrdreamz7232 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Tales Of Symphonia has similar characterization and themes but is an Action RPG for Gamecube.
Persona 5 for PS4 remains one of the strongest fantasy RPG'S ever with powerful themes.
Final Fantasy 7-9 are not as pretty and dont feature voice acting but are the closest to capturing the magic and structure of FFX.
Unfortunately many games are quite standalone in the experience they offer. But you cant go wrong with any Final Fantasy.

For me Golden Sun, Golden Sun: The Lost Age and Final Fantasy 6 (the Advance version) are on my top 20 best games of all time and ranked within the top 10 pretty close to each other (as I treat the 3 Golden Sun games equally).

Just bought final fantasy 4 a week ago , i use to have so many games for so many consoles , after 5th grade i started smoking weed everyday , smoke so much i got desperate and started selling toys, games , etc. Just to get high. my god the regrets i have for selling my games from sega genesis, n64, gameboy, xbox, so many etc each for a dollar. Life's a bitch you guys respect your body and love yourself surround yourself with people with good intentions , sometimes we lose ourselves for people or Material, god bless all of you who havent tried coke , meth etc. Weed wasn't bad but when you take advantage of your body , you will lose so much in the end , physically , mentally , spiritually.

Good list Eric. I am glad maybe even giddy to see Fire Emblem as the Top 2. I can agree why FF6 is 3rd, its great but a few sacrifices were made for it like its sound. FF4 I am glad is listed, as awesome as the DS remake is. The randomness to gain Perfect Stats(99 in everything except HP/MP) is offset by the fact that the rest of the cast can be reacquired. I remember bringing Yang to the final battle and shedding Manly Tears it was awesome. The Knight of Lodis is a prequel to Let Us Cling Together.
