    When Mercedes still made reliable monsters.

      W211 and W212 are very reliable, if you know how to take care of them. Can't say the same of the newer ones.

    “Chances of seeing one are probably as rare as catching Tipper Gore at a Marilyn Manson concert” 🤣😂🤣 one of his best jokes ever

      Yep. I laughed too. You won’t see ME at a Marilyn Manson concert (though I love metal music, I don’t care for Marilyn Manson) either.

    Best looking modern Mercedes. Love the pontoon front fenders, that square deck rear end and those classic monoblock wheels. I’ll take mine in black, please.

      @@mislavkonjik2827 in terms of chassis solidity and overall durability I would say yes. E39 is a little lighter and probably more nimble on a track or road course. I think when Mercedes came out with the 210 version of the E55 it had BMW beat.

      @@tonychavez2083 the actual weight of e39 m5 is 150+kg heavier than w210 e55. I measured mine, it was 1620kg with almost 0 fuel in tank, and wiki said e39 m5 curb weight is 1795kg. But yes, 210 is much softer, feel larger and heavier than e39

    • @damilolaakanni
      @damilolaakanni ปีที่แล้ว

      IMO, I'd say the last "real E class" (whatever that means) was the W212. Quality went down with the W210 compared to the W124, but improved significantly with the W211 and W212.

    $70,000 in 1999 is inflation for 2022 $125,000 very expensive car. Fun car to drive but they are old now. And mercedes is quietly discontinuing parts for the amg models of that era .they are registered trademark of AMG. 50% Mercedes and 50% amg

    • @tylercouture216
      @tylercouture216 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      what does the last part of your comment mean ?

    • @garyzhang5099
      @garyzhang5099 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That’s untrue, as a w210 e55 owner, there are lots of parts either new or used in the market. The thing is at that time, AMG is just a tuning company, so it use exactly same stuff as all other v8 Mercedes. For now, I can only find two stuff that’s specified for amg model: 1. Front rotor, 2. Front sway bar, that’s it.
      Sure, after mb and amg merge, amg is able to develop it’s own engine, that means after w211, there are a lot of “amg only” parts on the car

      I thought the same. Essentially every other automotive test of this in the press at that time was getting upper 4s and low-to-mid 13s for w210 E55. Must have been terrible track or ambient conditions when MW tested this thing.

      My 2000 E55 is definitely a rust bucket now but also RELIABLE and will still surprise the knuckleheads in their 5.7L Hemi's when they realize they can't keep up. Hopefully the next owner will restore her back to her former glory, I've had a good 14 years with her, time to move on.

      @@detonater1348 Lucky. Had mine in Florida for 9 years consistently (2008-2017), only took about 5 years up north (Detroit) for the body to get rotted out, and that's with it being garaged in winter and hardly ever driven from November to March. She's still a rusty sleeper although 1 front spring just rusted away from the frame so it's in a shop getting some welding work done now to fix it and will be posted on FB Marketplace right after for $4k. Will miss the old girl.
