Yes..I am an urban girl married in Haryana in a Jat family..it was an intercaste(love marriage) though caste was not an issue for my husabnd's family..but yes these people consider bahu as maid..for them she is just to take care of household suddenly they think that their bahu owes them for evrthing she has been..alcoholism...verbal physical abuse has been common to this society...blissfully I don't have to stay with my inlaws..yes but the mentality sucks..bete ki padhaya to beta kamakr de ghar p..they r doing financially well..yes but for them their beta is an investment who will give returns just like a mutual fund investment...emotions relations..they dont understand these words.

It’s not in every area of harayana, I am from a really small village and this village not even close to city , but still my parents sent me to Canada for further studies and I got married with other religion and caste guy.
It’s not just in harayana, there are certain places in all around India.
