    Love this review so detailed, even for the non-runner. Thank you this helps alot. I suffer from Plantar fasciitis and I was recommended these 2 types but I loved the Kayano 25 fit more than the GT 2000 which seemed a bit more narrow fit. Thank you thank you thank.

      I am the same but considering giving the Kayano a go, have you ever tried them? I have loved mt GT-2000's but want to know if I am missing out on anything with the Kayano's as I suffer quite badly with various pains when running.

    Hi Josh, great videos and lots of info. I have flat feet, narrow feet and land mid foot to forefoot; I have had success in my Asics GT 1000 5 but fancy a change as I’m getting a hole in the internal heel counter and the outsole has worn away really quickly. I’m looking towards Brooks Ghost or potentially Adrenaline. My question is; should I go with a narrow width, and would I need to change up a size in Brooks? My Asics feel tight (which I’m happy with) and I have no issues with cramped toes. I’m a UK 10 in the Asics. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Thanks for the great review! I'm a severe overpronator and I used the Brooks Pure Cadence 6 but I've been experiencing some pain in my outer ankle as well as on top of my middle-foot and the toe area (actually got bruised), which I think is due to the rather shallow toe area, and since I didn't have these problems before with my Asics, I blame them on the Brooks. So now I'm thinking of switching back to an Asics model and can't decide between the Kayano and the GT. Which one would you go for in this case?

    • @SportitudeAus
      @SportitudeAus  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hi Jennifer,
      Thank you for your kind words. We certainly enjoy giving us much information to the running community as we possibly can. Shoe selection is never easy, so we like to take the edge off and help everyone with as much detail as possible.
      Firstly, I would like to say don't rule out Brooks. If you are an overpronator and you used the Brooks Pure Cadence, well sadly that shoe would not hold up for any severe overpronator as it is more of a lightweight/tempo/racing shoe with a touch of support. So it is no surprise you experienced some discomfort. Your ankle would have been working overtime to re-stabilise your foot as the base of the Pure Cadence was not creating an efficient base for your gait cycle. This has a delayed effect through to the forefoot in which potentially could have been the reason being your bruised toe.
      GT 2000 V6 or Kayano 24?
      If you are looking for maximum cushioning then consider the Kayano. Biomechanically, I literally find it hard to split the two. both offer medial assistance with Dynamic Duomax for over pronators and both well cushioned. The main difference between the two shoes is the firmer more responsive feel of the GT 2000. Typically we see runners opt for this shoe if their training schedule is one for mixing up distances and speeds. The GT 2000 is a great shoe for longer runs, but when you are wanting to pick the pace up for shorter work, this shoe give more feedback to the foot which assists with your running cadence. Kayano is simply stacked with more cushioning creating a plush feel under the foot. I prefer the Kayano for longer runs, but GT 2000 for shorter/quicker run.
      I would not rule out the following shoes either:
      I would also consider the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 18 and Mizuno Wave Inspire 14 as these two shoes are very similar to the GT 2000, with that lighter more responsive feel on the foot. Here is a link to a comparative video we did featuring these shoes:
      th-cam.com/video/3yVFIndsUzA/w-d-xo.html
      If you have any further questions please let us know.
      As always, happy running!
      Josh.

    Hi Josh,
    Great review. I am in the process of looking for a new shoe, currently running in some Gel Kayano 20's and the reason I got this shoe was because of the shock absorption as I had an ACL reconstruction as well as some meniscus removed from a sporting injury. I went into a running store and they showed me a Mizuno Wave Inspire 14 and a Kayano 24 and both shoes were great. I felt the Mizuno was a lot more suited to my foot and felt a lot better however am worried that its not got enough cushioning to help prevent issues with my knee later down the track. Just wanted to get your thoughts before I default back to the Kayanos.
    Thanks Hung

    • @SportitudeAus
      @SportitudeAus  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello Hung,
      Thanks for watching our review. Knee reconstructions are not fun, I had had two myself and also had meniscus trimmed.
      Considering your foot type is suited to Kayano and Inspire I would also consider the Mizuno Wave Horizon 2. I recently filmed a review on this shoe, which will be up on our channel very soon. But to give you the first insight into the shoe. It has a new reconstructed wave plate that offers a pinch more support than Inspire, however on an incredibly cushioned mid-sole. As you are correct in your diagnoses, the Kayano 24 does have more impact cushioning than Inspire 14.
      Please note, the Horizon 1 (original model) was not a success shoe for our store. Too narrow which for the foot type its engineered for caused irritation on toe off. Cramping the foot in a time which it needs to splay out and load up to toe off efficiently. But credit to Mizuno, as the Horizon 2 is a complete re-do and for the better.
      Shoe Engineering Comparisons
      Kayano 24
      Weight 320g with 10mm Off set
      Horizon 2
      Weight 344g with 12mm Off set
      Inspire 14
      Weight 292g with 12mm Off set
      Essentially the Horizon is 24g heavier than Kayano, however you do get increased mileage and durability with this model. I personally couldn't tell the difference in weight on the foot. I do enjoy running in the Kayano 24 also. It is a shoe that is hard to fault. The best thing about Asics is their consistency. They have had some yips along the way like all brands but year in year out they are on the money.
      As you have done your research already by simply trying Kayano 24 and Inspire 14, you have a good perception of what you like the feel of. My number one tip when purchasing a new shoe. Trust your gut feeling. Go with the shoe that feels natural on your foot. Not what you think you should run in or told you should run in. When I am fitting someone I always bring out the 3 best options for their bio-mechanics and requirements, but the final decision is always the customers. Its your feet and your knee, so trust your intuition.
      I hope this has helped your decision. If you have any further questions please let me know.
      All the best and happy running.
      Josh.

    Nice review
    I need some advice here.
    I've been running for a month and half now. My current shoes are not fit for my training : 6-7 km twice a week, in the woods( lots of rocks) and a bit on pavements. I've been facing some pain on the interior of my feet each time after running. Also I feel like my ankle is not stable at all.
    I have overpronation. I'm hesitating between the kayano 23 and GT 2000 6 ? Because they're the same price on the internet.
    Which one do you think is best for my training ?
    Thanks for answering.

    • @SportitudeAus
      @SportitudeAus  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Ganguroangel S.
      Thanks for your kind words and for taking the time to send in your question. Considering you are using them on two surfaces being off road (trail) and pavement (road) then I would lean towards the GT 2000 over the Kayano. This being said I would strongly consider the GT 2000 V6 Trail:
      www.sportitude.com.au/shop/product/asics-gt-2000-6-trail-mens-trail-running-shoes-black-dark-forest?ref=search
      This shoe is engineered on the exact same platform and support as the road version however has a slight increase in grip and control under the foot. This will protect your foot a little better than the road version on trail surfaces. There is no problems using them for pavement running, they will hold up very well. They only come available in the one width which is 2E. So if you are requiring something a little wider (4E) or narrower (D) then consider using the GT 2000 V6. Width plays such an important role in the shoes performance. Getting the right width will give you foot structure and support and minimise the movement of your foot during the impact and loading phase of the gait cycle.
      The GT-2000 and Kayano both have great cushioning and support, however the Kayano has an extra layer of cushioning which yes, is great, but it also makes the shoe a bit heavier. While the GT-2000 still has more than enough cushioning, it is a little lighter and being more responsive you will be able to have more proprioception to better deal with uneven surfaces (rocks) on your trail runs.
      I hope this has helped you decide between the two shoes.
      Let me know if you have any further questions.
      Happy Running
      Josh.

    Hi I’m a moderate to severe pronator. I have a normal arch. I’m experiencing severe shin splints and a right knee pain . Im confused between Asics gt 2000, brooks adrenaline and nb 860 v8. Which one do u suggest,? I’m 75 kgs. Standard width feet.

    • @SportitudeAus
      @SportitudeAus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nandakumar,
      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment on this video and apologies for the delayed response.
      If you have been diagnosed as severe over pronator, you are on the money with the selections. The adrenaline will provide more support followed by the GT 2000 and then the 860 V8. Also very important to note, that standard width you should be looking at a D width in all shoes. The 860 however does fit a little wider than the other two models, so it would be best to try on these models in-store to gauge the best fit for you.
      The GT has a bigger difference between the cushioning and response. Which essentially means it works really well for different running strides and speeds. However if you are experiencing shin pain we need to minimise your shin rotation, and would suggest the Adrenaline GTS 18 based on the extra support provided. I would also consider the Mizuno Wave Horizon 2 if available.
      I need to point out this is very much advice given on the limited information at hand. Any further questions please let me know.
      Happy Running.
      Josh.

    Hi there,
    Great review, thanks a lot!
    What would you recommend for me: 90kgs (almost 200 pounds), running 4-6 times a week, 10-20kms. I have a beloved Asics Noosa Tri 10 for my speed workouts, but would like to have something that protects my legs from the concrete pounding during my longer sessions: 2 hour runs with some fartlek or some tempo and/or 5k efforts in the middle, with some strides at the end.
    Does the GT-2000 protects my legs enough or sould I go more cushioned?
    ps.: I also have a Brooks GTS 16, but unfortunately we didn't become BFFs :(
    thanks a lot

    I'm running the London Marathon in the summer so am following a programme of running 4 times a week (99% on road) but with varied training types (interval, long runs, fartlek etc). I have slight knee problems which I wear insoles for and have tried both shoes and really cannot tell any difference. I was wondering if, between the two there were any differences that would be handy to know in terms of support / cushioning in relation to that. Thanks!

    • @SportitudeAus
      @SportitudeAus  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Jonny
      Thanks for watching this video and taking the time to comment.
      With London Marathon on your radar hopefully I can shed some light on footwear requirements for you. I have a few questions I would like to ask in and around your knee pain. Do you find that after a particular run you are noticing knee pain more so than other runs. EG: Does a tempo run put more stress on your knee or when you go for your longer training runs?
      Regarding the differences between the two, there really is not a great deal. The Kayano 24 will offer more support. This is not due to the base of the shoe, in which Kayano is engineered with a little more Gel cushioning however majority of differences coming from the upper. The Meta Clutch heel counter in Kayano and reinforced upper support on the medial side offer more support when the foot is in contact with the ground for longer periods. So when splitting the differences, the Kayano 24 is a great shoe for longer runs, when contact time with the ground is increased. The GT 2000 6 performs well for long runs also, however is marginally less supportive in the upper. The majority of weight reduction in GT 2000 comes from less support in the upper.
      Have you recently been fitting correctly for footwear? Had your gait assessed and correctly diagnosed with which support category you should consider? Both Kayano and GT 2000 are designed for an over-pronated foot type. This happens to be the majority of runners who fall into this category. If on the flip side your foot is neutral in set up and or supinates then you should be consider a completely different line of footwear which we can show you some options.
      I would also like to add that if your knee pain does not subside, then you should consider seeing a specialist Podiatrist or Physiotherapist. Reason being the issue might be more to do with your bio-mechanics rather than the footwear.
      I look forward to hearing back from you.
      Regards,
      Josh

      Sportitude Thank you so much for that reply, it really helped. I ended up with the Kayanos which are brilliant. The support is great and the added weight from this is barely noticeable even on long runs. My knee pain subsided with the change of shoe and strengthening exercises. I’ve got a London half marathon as part of my training next week so that will be a good test for the full marathon coming up!
      Thanks again!

    Great explanation - I'd buy from this guy if I was in Australia. I need help deciding upon a shoe for my mid-severe overpronation, but there's so many choices. I was looking at the Brooks GTS Adrenaline and a Transcend, as well as Asics Gel Kayano (I have an older version), although someone also mentioned a Hoka Arahi...And now I'm not sure :s. I just want to avoid shin splints!!

    • @SportitudeAus
      @SportitudeAus  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi PixieintheMainframe,
      Thanks for watching our video and for your kind comments. Shame you don't live in Australia, we would love to help you out. Hopefully there is enough information below to assist with your next purchase and keep you running stronger for longer.
      Regarding your foot type you are on the money with footwear options.
      I have some questions however that might make your next footwear choice a little easier.
      Mid to severe pronators should always ensure that have the right amount of support in the right area of the gait cycle. The shoes you have mentioned are on the right track but have different levels of support. Would you classify yourself as a heel striker? If so then I would not consider the Brooks Transcend 5 for severe support, as the arch is cradled by a guide rail which works really well for mild over-pronators. I would consider the Kayano 24. The reason for the Kayano 24 and not the GT-2000 6 is mainly due to the Meta Clutch heel counter, which provides a little more support for heel strikers when the foot makes contact with the ground.
      If you are a mid foot striker or like to mix up your runs (speed and distance) then consider the GT 2000 V6 and the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 18. Slightly lighter but stable enough to hold the foot in a good position for longer runs.
      The Hoka Arahi I must admit I do not have any experience with this shoe. I have used Hoka Cliftons and Hoka Bondi's in the past and found them incredibly light and cushioned. They worked well for my longer runs, but when I wanted to mix up my speeds they can be a little too much shoe under the foot. There is an ongoing question mark on longevity with Hoka. They provide ample cushioning but wear too quickly.
      I hope this has given you enough information to help with your next shoe selection.
      Thanks again for watching.
      Happy Running.

      Going up a half size is not that uncommon either. I considered it with my GTS 18's. However I run in a thin sock and found the half size up to be a little lose through the forefoot.

      Glad to hear you were able to find a shoe suitable for your needs in the Foundation 13's.
      Did the store you got them from have any suggestions as to why the Adrenalines might have been causing pain in your shins and ankles? Too flexible? And perhaps the straighter last and more rigid and support found in the Foundation has fixed the issue?

      2. I have had my foot type assessed and i am an over pronator
      3. My current runner is the under armor charged bandit 2 however it was bought when i had no clue about running shoes and after research i have narrowed my options down to the gt 2000 6 and ds trainer 23

    • @SportitudeAus
      @SportitudeAus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Ben,
      Thanks for this information and your prompt reply.
      Considering you are an overpronator you could entertain the GT 2000 V6. The DS Trainer 23 does have some medial support however the amount of support is minimal and I tend to be cautious when recommending this shoe for someone wanting some arch support/medial assistance through the gait cycle.
      Mileage wise the DS will wear twice as fast as the GT 2000. Rough mileage on DS 23 we are looking at 350km to 400km and the mileage for GT 2000 is 700km to 750km. So for value for money the GT 2000 will give you more.
      One other factor which I need to make known. Both these shoes are engineered for running. They can be used for walking, but when used for activity other than straight line movement this can potentially make them wear faster than expected. This is the same with nearly all running shoes. There are exceptions to this rule with other brands and external factors from the user. But this is something in which I am continually informing our customers.
      I hope this has given you enough information in making your footwear selection that little bit easier.
      If there is anything else I may be able to assist with please let me know.
      Happy Running.
      Josh.

    • @SportitudeAus
      @SportitudeAus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Astroboy3507,
      There was certainly a difference between the 23 v 24, with the 23 being considerably shallower. However, I would say the difference between 22 and 24 is marginal if anything, with the 24 being ever so slightly deeper.
      There are a full range of width options in the 24 which does assist the fit differentials. 3 widths on offer in both genders, which allows us to dial in the fit to be near on perfect.
      Have you had the chance to try on a 24? If so what are your thoughts?

      Hi Astroboy3507
      Thanks for getting back to us.
      Kayano 24 comes in D (standard) 2E (wide) and 4E (extra wide) for men in Australia.
      Some brands simply change the amount of upper used to create the width, however Asics do remould the base of the shoe as well as adjust the upper to provide true width fittings.

      Apologies for the delay in responding. Answer to your question they are not ideal for trail running. The tread on the bottom and structure in the mesh will not hold up as well as a traditional trail shoe.
      Asics have engineered a GT 2000 Trail, however my honest opinion its a glorified road running shoe. Essentially designed for 80/20 split.... road and trail. Little thicker out-sole with everything else about the shoe the same.
      Have you had a pair of trail shoes before? If not what has been your favourite running in recent years. I will be able to point you in the right direction to match similar shoe in support and cushioning.
      Happy Running.
      Josh

    I have both. Bought at the same time. I personally think the 2000's are better.
    Quite subjective I guess.
    I'm a new balance guy.

      Hey Ed,
      Too many differences in these shoes to compare them to one another.
      Both designed for heel strikers, but a midfoot runner can use both.
      Arch support comes into account with the GT 2000 and the Cumulus 20 is a stable neutral shoe. Meaning designed to cater for neutral to supinated foot types. Biomechanically they are in different leagues.
      Cushioning and responsiveness they are very similar though.
      What is your current running shoe?
      Regards,
      Josh
      Sportitude.

    asics shoes are really beautiful and durable from the outside. But their inner layer breaks after using for a while and does not last at all !!

    If only retailers were all this thorough when they sold footwear. They're mostly a bunch of flunkies who make it up as they go.
