Loved the video ❤️. The terra-cotta pot needed to be soaked for 24 to 48 hours in water before using. The variable you didn’t know was how much moisture was in the terra-cotta pot. This video deserve a do over 👏🏾‼️
I LOVE the reality of the pizza oven fail. and love that you've grown in confidence enough to post it. I really enjoy working with yuba, (flat skins and I love the texture of the sticks) since it has protein where jackfruit does not. I'd love if you can explore that ingredient and share some of your creative recipes.
I have been making and firing ceramics for most of my life! Terra cotta is a low fire clay and it’s fired in a consistent/stable temperature. The high temp of the wood right on the pot was probably too much for the pot to handle, and there may have already been a stress crack potentially as well. I’m sure like you mentioned a thicker walled one might be better!
@@dalemills8052 if it was the firing process that would be correct as water would make it explode! But in this case it would allow for more even heating and cooling of the pot and it’ll evaporate more slowly rather than a huge temperature shock
The pizza looks amazing. I can hardly wait to try it. One of the things I admire most about you Gaz is your willingness to try new recipes or techniques on the air. If something goes wrong, like the cracked oven pot today, you figure out a work-around and willingly accept suggestions from others. This gives me the courage and inspiration to experiment and try new concepts knowing that this happens to even the most expert and seasoned chef. You not only give me the ideas and the recipes, you give me the courage and freedom to experiment and to open-heartedly fail…and move on. Thank you!
I've been watching you for a while now and it's always such a pleasure. Such beautiful videos - the music, the editing, the enthusiasm for everything you do - and beautiful food. Thank you
My favorite part of Gaz’s videos is how excited he gets when he thinks whatever he made is gonna be bomb. I get excited like that too. It’s fun to see out of a guy who cooks for a living. That’s why I watch the channel. I’m not vegan but love your recipes.

I'm Indian & I love Italian cuisine, but I had NEVER thought/heard about this type of dough for a pizza ! Looks amazing, brilliant idea I'll definitely try it ASAP. And I'm vegan so the jackfruit is the cherry on top. Love your recipes and the garden has come along beautifully. Much love 💚
Great video, the pot breaking didn’t matter, the dough recipe is very interesting for people cautious about spices. I use a lot of spice but wouldn’t necessarily put it in a dough, so thanks for the inspiration. Btw, Nigella seeds are not onion seeds, very different plant, often called Love in the Mist, easy to grow and will self seed all over your garden. Onion seeds are literally from the big pompon allium flowers, if you let your onions flower, you will get seed. Good luck with everything!
My favorite part of your videos are the little mishaps. Put cracking, food falling, book knocking things over. Random funny moments in the middle of epic food times.
BeautaiFuL episode, loved every moment of it. "Infusing" culture, colours, gardening, dropping bars and humour, inviting community to progress the learning process and the simplicity of being and cooking in nature...love, love, love. 💕 You all make it look so easy but then again when living ON PURPOSE IN PURPOSE, at times, the journey is effortless. @Scorp 83 I simply think that statement was a sign of deep respect for the Chef. He was attempting in a odd way to express how important his contributions are to vegan community. He should be cherished. express
The original snap shot of the terracotta pot oven, had a pot positioned on another terracotta pot. I noticed this straight away. In your video Gaz you used a table which would have a different heat transfer and keep the bottom of the pot cold instead of insulating it. Thank you for your yummy food show love it. merci beaucoup pour toutes vos recettes, elles sont une explosion de saveur en bouche!!!! Vous nous montrez que d'être vegan n'est pas une maladie :))) mais que l'on peut se régaler, satisfaire nos papilles et surtout être heureux de toujours bien manger!!! Un bonjour du Sud de la France !!!
Terracotta pots will take a lot of heat. I built a tandor oven for a community project and got it fired to over 400C. A few things to know: The pot is suseptable to frost and water getting into the clay if left outside, so when fired the heat turns the trapped water into steam and cracks the pot. If a pot is heated too fast then the thermal expansion can create a crack between the hot and cold parts of the pot. So if you want to do this again, first make sure your pot hasn't been left out to capture water, then prep the pot with a kindling fire (small pieces of wood) and keep that small fire burning for a good 15 mins. Let the pot heat up before building the fire to a high heat. Not so easy for filming, but at least the pot won't explode. Final point; if you're wanting to slap the dough to the sides (like naan), make sure the sides are very hot and lightly oiled or the dough clings to the surface while the outer side burns.
I'm am in awe of your cooking ideas and concepts to make vegan dishes that look and taste so wonderful. You truly have a gift. I'm so happy I found this channel.
You could make a bed of sand for the fire to jeep the flames from contacting the pot. Then keep the fire small enough that it doesn't touch the roof and back.
I loved this episode and I really liked that you put in your failed attempt as well! Also: FINALLY your outdoors without wind throwing over your ingredients or without the heavy rain :D yeaaah :))
Hi! There's a big difference between flower pod and a ceramic pod for cooking. The flower pod can only handle flowers😉🌻 but ceramic cooking pod can handle very high temperature. We have lots of there here in Bulgaria. You can put them in the fire and oven and it's soooo tasty... not the pot but the food inside it 😋 You're great, carry on :)
Fun fact, Black pepper, even just a pinch will make tumeric and curcumin 1000 times more viable for the human body. So always use both in your recipe! 💖🌞🌵😷
Almost correct, I don't remember how much you need from the studies but the enhancement is up to 2000 _percent_, so more like 10-20 times. That's still very significant though. White pepper should work just as well (if not better, although I think most studies used black pepper), since it also contains the active ingredient piperine that's making curcumin more easily absorbed. Green peppercorns are from the same species, but piperine increases the more ripe the pepper gets, so stick with black or white.
I was skeptical about the pot from my 1 semester of ceramics, so wasn’t surprised it cracked. (I tried making my own terra cotta cookin pot, but lo and behold, it cracked when I tried using it in the stove top.) anyhow, I wonder if there is a decent gluten free vegan pizza recipe.
You need to season terracotta pots. Put them in starch water for 2-3 days. Only water will do, if you don't use them often. And oil them after sun drying.2-3 layers of oiling will do .
This oven concept seems so so cool! I really appreciate you sharing this idea with us as I have never heard of such a fun idea! And I must say, even though it did not work I am sure you had loads of fun being a fireman afterwards! And the recipe itself...what can I say, just WOW! I adore the idea of marinating the jackfruit as it really reminds me of what I used to do with chicken! I will definitely have to test this idea out with other plant-based proteins too - I am sure such a spiced yoghurty tofu, tempeh or seitan would be fantastic! . Thank you guys for making this video for us! Sending you all lots and lots of love! Have a great rest of the week!

My only guess with the pot is that it may have been too high of a heat too fast. In the past, when I’ve cooked with a ceramic dish in an oven, the recipes have often said to put the dish in the cold oven, and THEN turn it on. This looks so darn tasty, and I admit that I laughed at how hard you were breathing before you bit into it… and when a piece jumped off when you did bite into the pizza. I don’t have a pizza oven, but I have a pizza stone… and would sure love to use it to make this recipe. Love your garden; it’s beautiful.
You really find that pizza with a spectacular dough delicious, although the pot was not the best option for a grill because the pot was not refractory but great video friend, I'm new here, thank you very much

I would think that if the pot Had absorbed any moisture that moisture heating up would Promote cracking as it steams and expands within the clay?
