Regarding violence in São Paulo, here are some additional data points: the city records a high number of robberies, especially of cell phones, which increases the feeling of insecurity. However, in 2023, São Paulo had fewer homicides than New York City, considering the rate per 100,000 inhabitants. São Paulo recorded 4 deaths per 100,000, while New York registered 5. This does not mean the city is safe, but it suggests it is safer than is commonly perceived.

Also the numbeo website has its crime data very based on a spreadsheet of questions about how safe or unsafe people in a given city feel, in which any person can go there and respond to contribute. This method, although it may give us some idea of the crime rate in a place, has risks of inaccuracy as it is based on the subjective feelings of some residents which can also be influenced by what the media reports about their city, and as São Paulo and Rio have a lot of media covering their crimes (for example, the case of Susanne von Richtoffen became famous throughout the country), people can overestimate some crimes. I don't mean to say that São Paulo is particularly safe (I live here and I don't feel safe) as you said there is a lot of cell theft here

Perfect analysis of the São Paulo city! You managed to capture the essence of the city, highlighting both its strengths and weaknesses. One particularly important point to emphasize is the integration of various ethnicities and the friendliness and sociability of the people. It's something very hard to find in other parts of the world. For example, I am a second-generation Japanese, and I married a Brazilian whose great-grandmother was Indigenous and gradfather was portuguese. There truly is a mix and complete integration of multiple cultures, which is reflected in the cuisine and culture. I love living in São Paulo and Brasil!!!!! All of this can be summed up in my son, who holds Japanese, Portuguese, and Brazilian nationalities.

I'm from the South, and Florianópolis has a much higher homicide rate than São Paulo. In fact, São Paulo has the lowest homicide rate among the country's capitals. Other capitals, such as Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, and Recife, have homicide rates per 100,000 inhabitants that are around 500% higher than São Paulo's. It's not double or triple - it's five times more. Florianópolis is a city with a smaller population than Piracicaba, a "rural" city in the state of São Paulo. These are completely different realities. The state of São Paulo also has violence and homicide rates lower than much of the European countries, and some regions in the state’s countryside have Scandinavian-level safety standards.
What fascinates me about São Paulo is how, in just over 50 years, a small village turned into this giant metropolis. It’s the largest short-term mass migration in history. Neither New York, Tokyo, nor Beijing has ever seen growth on the scale of São Paulo. As you pointed out regarding immigration, São Paulo has 6 million descendants of Italians - twice as many as Rome in Italy. It’s crazy to think that the descendants of Italians in São Paulo, as well as in states like Santa Catarina, Paraná, and Rio Grande do Sul, and even in countries like Argentina and Uruguay, combined, would form a population comparable to an entire Roman Empire - with more Italians than Italy itself.
Mass immigration in the Americas was truly extraordinary. A great-uncle of a friend of mine is from São Paulo, and he tells many stories about the Italian labor movements in São Paulo’s factories and the chaotic clashes that occurred as the city grew so monstrously.

I liked your overall take on the city. Without sugarcoating it, you addressed the most important issues that inhabitants face daily. Having ridden on some subways in Europe, I can easily say that when it comes to public infrastructure (subway) the city is one the best in the world. However, if you are planning on coming here to work for a big company, I would highly not recommend it, as the cost of living is high, and many wouldn't be able to keep up with it.

Best places to invest are in the large luxury condos, just in the outskirts like the zones of Santana de Parnaiba, Barueri, Granja Viana, Cotia, Aldeia da Serra etc. you can still buy relatively low cost pieces of land inside a premium condo and build a dream mansion being 20 minutes of the main avenues of Sao Paulo. Perfect for families wishing to move there with the plus being near the industrial zones. Good for investors or business owners. Instead for singles or couples that wants to live inside the city and enjoy the cinemas, bars, theaters, university, concerts etc, an apartment is the best choice. Vila Madalena, Pinheiros, Moema, Perdizes are great zones. Relatively safe, and well covered with city services such as restaurants, markets, hospitals, easy public transport...

Granja Viana is the "condominium complex" and Cotia is the municipality itself. Same happens with Santana de Parnaíba and Barueri as two municipalities, and Alphaville being the complex itself (split between both cities)
Not wanting to disrupt your plan, but if I were you I would move to the condos located in the outskirts of Vinhedo and Valinhos instead, in the interior of the state. much safer than Alphaville, for example, when you leave the walls.

São Paulo is much more esier and fast to solve the routine duties. The services are better. People is more educated and civilized. Good info, mostly of your perception is right and precise, some need extra info. For instance, the local Congonhas airport is under a huge renovation, part of the problems you had there were because of that, also you were embarking in the area without fingers for direct access to planes, that area will disappear on the renovation, that also includes a new metro line connected direct in the airport, the whole renovation will doubled Congonhas size. Also the cultural side of the city was barely spoken of, there are huge amounts of good theatres, museums, classical music (best orchestras in the country, best Opera, etc), dance companies, all kinds of Festivals of all that, but specially a great music scene, from huge Arena pop shows to small perfomance bars. This and the night life (and shopping) are the major reasons tourists from the rest of the country packs São Paulo.

One thing that I found out and confuses people a lot is that - as with New York - Sao Paulo is the name of the city and also the state. So when people say that Sao Paulo doesn't have any beaches, it means the city, since you can take a two hours trip and be in the coastline.
And yeah the city itself is huge, with its metropolitan area having more than 20 million people. That's a batshit crazy number, only similar in metropolitan areas from China like Guangzhou and Beijing and of course Tokyo.

Great video! I love São Paulo... it's a place with so many options for things to do, lots of bars, restaurants, vibrant culture, national and international shows, and people from all over Brazil and the world. If you want, you can do something every day of the week. I don’t really like the traffic and the crime... but the crime is okay. There are other capitals in Brazil that are worse. Here in São Paulo, you can live peacefully despite the crime rate-it’s not something that will directly and constantly affect you.

Have you ever visited the countryside of São Paulo state? The indices for the interior of São Paulo, depending on the city, are usually similar to those of the countryside of Santa Catarina, both in terms of crime rates and cost of living and health. In fact, the cost of living and health services often tend to be better than in Santa Catarina, and crime rates are generally comparable. However, speaking in favour of Guarulhos, now there's no need to drive or take a taxi there, they now have the station right in front of the airport. The train leaves from central station Luz, and the service is great, you get there super quick, and the shuttle bus takes like 7 minutes to drop you off at the airport.

One thing that many people are not aware of is that until the 1970s, the state of São Paulo used to be part of Brazil's Southern region. It was the military junta, somewhat afraid of the separatist movement gaining traction, that decided to separate São Paulo from the Southern region, realigning it with the Brazilian cultural core of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. After this shift, a strong 'psy-ops' campaign was carried out, especially in academia and schools, to culturally distance São Paulo from the remaining Southern states. As a result, immigrant heritage began to be suppressed, labeled as 'foreign' or 'non-Brazilian.' This is one of the main reasons why, for instance, Italians in São Paulo are less connected to their heritage compared to those in the South, even in nearly 100% Italian towns in the state's interior.

Brazil is good for setting up factories, with a small initial capital of around US$ 100,000 in a few years you can be in the 2% of the population earning more than 5 x the investment per year due to the low costs of wages and raw materials. Income tax is also low, 27% the highest. Land and warehouses, if the company is located in the interior, are also absurdly cheap. In short, for those who have ideas and a little investment, it can be an excellent place to get rich.
