Every country has corruption, Brazil is no different. People saying Brazilian problem are the politicians are not necessarily wrong. Question is, politicians are bad, but bad for who? If you take the white economical elite that has control over the country since the beggining, those politicians are pretty good and efficient, but for the people? They are terrible. And the reason why is first colonialism, and now capitalism. The state is there to serve the capital and its representatives, not the people. Imperialism has a crucial role here as well. Brazil has so much resources but we are not allowed by imperialism to have a complete industry to get the resources we have and produce higher quality products. Capitalism has a division, where some countries will develop and have their economy based on high technology, like USA, Germany, so they will have Volkswagen, Ford, and countries in Africa and Latin America will produce coffe, soy, cattle, etc. Switzerland has not a single cacau tree, but they are famous for chocolate, same goes for coffee. The moment Brazil decides to change that, and develop our own car companies, like China did, we will become enemies, a non democratic country, etc etc etc. We can really only develop, when we have a socialist revolution, capitalism has not developed a single country without colonialism, imperialism, or by political interests, like South Korea to show how ''bad'' North Korea is, and countries are economically blocked like Cuba, why do that if socialism is so bad? So yeah, Brazil has lots of rich people, but majority is poor, to serve as means to get a minority rich, that is capitalism, and capitalism won't change that scenario cause it's not the purpose of capitalism, the purpose is to allow economical development that serves to a minority. When we have our revolution and our resources are used for the common good of our population, and richness becomes a social asset, we'll be in paradise because our climate is the best, land is beautiful, biodiversity is the highest, the coast is just gorgeus, culture is diverse, vibrant and everywhere, music is great, people are kind and naturally happy somehow, dispite all the problems we face.

The way you compared cost of living between the states and Brazil is not correct. Cars and imported products are exceptions. Electronics that are built in Brazil are much cheaper. Try comparing the price of refrigerators, beds, sofas or washing machines, for example. Also, food and rent are the biggest expenses of poorer families anywhere, and as you said, they are much cheaper here in Brazil. Add things like free health care and unless they live in a favela a poor family living in Brazil probably don't have worse quality of life when compared with a poor family in the US.

Take a look at Chile, you'll find much more central heating, insulation, drywall and it's so close to Brazil and yet so different in many ways, much more developed in this regard. This is visible in Santiago, Pucon, Punta Arenas etc.

Dude, actually this is the Brazil that tourists see. The truth is that most of the population earns a salary that doesn't even pay the bills. The average salary currently is 3000 reais, but there are many people who don't earn it. This varies a lot depending on the region. Generally, regions like São Paulo have higher salaries, but it's very expensive to live on 3000 reais. You can't even rent an apartment in São Paulo. Further south, the average salary is 2000 reais, but it's more affordable than São Paulo. In the end, everything is the same. They work their whole lives and the most they can do is buy a 10-year-old car and die owing a house that was financed through Minha Casa Minha Vida. And one thing that is horrible in Brazil is the purchasing power, despite many people living on salaries of 2000, 3000 or even less. Where is the dignity? To buy a 20-year-old car, you have to pay 5 salaries(10k). To buy a simple phone, you need half a salary. To buy a video game, you need your entire salary, a computer or a laptop. The same thing, not to mention food, which for a family of 3 people you don't spend less than 1000. So, the truth is that most of the population is not at all pleased with the situation in this shitty country.

Brazil have a ultra high concentratation of money in hand of 5% of people. I am a Brazilian and here, if you are not a very well born, with a large inherited fortune, parents who own a multinational company or agribusiness, or even an elite public servant, you are poor and will struggle your whole life just for the basics. Politicians corruption contribute too much for our misery.

It's only possible to live in Brazil because the price of services is vety cheap compared to rich countries. Home broadband internet and healthcare are cheap, for example. On the other hand, goods like cars and electronics are very expansive.
