This method is all I've ever used, but I wrap the completed rope with the tag end in an overhand knot, and hang it from my belt with a clip on your knotted end to feed it out since I don't have a pouch. A pants or jacket pocket also works wonders...

I bunched up my line and rubber band in the center so it feeds out but your useful method may come into play
