His helps a lot. 30 years in the Marine Corps fighting with tangled para cord and now…never too late.

Used to do this with rock climbing rope… still good to know and refresh the memory.

Love it. 50 years of doing it exactly the wrong way 😂 so yes. It helps!!

thank you, I'm watching a year after you made this video, after having obtained my first paracord, this short video not only helped save me many headaches in the future, but helped me to complete a project I've been working on, and had just about given up on.

I learned this method for yarn many years ago using the thumb and forefinger. I made an adjustable jig to do this with cord by drilling several holes in a board and using 2 dowels to wrap the cord in a figure 8.

I do this with my larger diameter ropes. For paracord and small diameter rope and cordage I made spoolers out of wood or cardboard. They take more time to load but also ensure tangle free unwrapping.

thanks! at the end, my tail end was loose/unraveling around the hank- i think it had something to do with the direction i was wrapping it? i did it again with the video in slow mo literally mirroring the arm switches and everything and it seems to be secure, but having no knowledge of weaving/knots, i'm not sure i will be able to repeat the result consistently 😬i use paracord all the time to hang my laundry and i normally make it into a ball when i'm done because it was the only tangle-free method i knew of 😂

I just made your can coozie last night and holy cow it took a long time! Lol! It turned out great though 👍

Same method, around the fingers for small diameter line. Refered to as a tamale in Bruce Grants book The encyclopedia of rawhide and leather braiding. Good share thanks.

The crossover of the cord is not the only thing that makes the cord pull out of the hank easily, another reason (the main reason if you ask me) is if you spool in a circular motion you twist the cord with every pass. With a figure eight the cord gets twisted one way and then back again, thus negating the twist.
I wish I had learned this trick years before I had it would have saved a lot of frustration.
You can make small hanks with the same figure eight technique using your thumb and little finger. For someone who goes camping every 2 weeks all year round it has saved me a lot of hassle untangling cordage.

Well. What do you know? A genius method! Thx. Personally I take cord from the end i finished with so I never encountered these problems. Anyway, great upload thx. And a #suggestion show us a knot you have invented!

Huh, simultaneous evolution I guess. I use that same exact method after I got tired of tangled messes.

I do something similar to that when rolling up 25 ft+ extension cords. Done correctly, you can hold one end and throw the rest out and it not tangle.
