Yes Yes Yes please do more. Talk in detail about the trigger mechanisms though and if they can be used for other engines. Great vid. I love your stuff. Thanks from the UK man
Awesome video. Very easy and simple snare. I have seen other people that make it look so complicted but you made it easy to understand. Thank you for the video.
The Wooded Beardsman I guess the trapper has to pick the right size sapling, strong enough for the target species size. is that what you're referring to? Enough lift?
Yes, I agree. Can you really rely on these to thrive. By the way. I think you would be a great contestant on either the alone show, or "naked and afraid". I've seen a lot of your videos and I know that you have the goods. :)
Loved the video style. I a bit more explaining on the knots or at least a resource of where to learn it would be awesome. I think in a survival situation food procurement is one of the biggest worries. Learning/relearning primitive traps is a great tool to keep in your toolbox. Thanks for the video
Quick, simple, informative...learned something new! Thank you. No words during the demo works well. Helped me focus on the task. I am very easily distracted...
this by far is my favorite , have been since fog horn leg horn . yup once they show us this on sat morning. I was hooked. Davey crocked, all these were the good shows. now sadly some youth never get taught these . keep up the good work. oh yes many pigions I caught in erie pa growing up.. and on my granparents farm well a few rabbits. lol
I have subscribed to many channels to do with bushcraft, hunting and survival but ive not enjoyed one of them half as much as i do watching you on your channel, you share vast amounts of usable knowledge and do it in a fun easy to watch manner, totally enjoyable, keep up the great content and 200k subscribers should be an easy reach for you, thanks for sharing, god bless
Cracking video as usual. I'd be keen to see more traps and the explanation of how they work. They are banned in Scotland but knowledge weighs nothing and you never know where you'll be when you need it.
Wondifferus ....Heck yea bro find and do any and every trap you can research ...and then invent some Fowler improved versions , Like the trap you just did but with a heavy log way up in the tree (instead of bent sapling) so when the trap snares it pulls it (little fluffy pink energizer bunny) up in the air to the limb the cords hung over into sharp sticks tied to the limb. POW GOES THE DYNAMITE!!!! LOL great vid bro keep em coming ....god bless you ZACK
Thanks!...if you do "tweak" some versions or invent some new ones, even if they dont work out I think you and us will have a blast going threw the trial and error process.....Thanks bud have a blessed day bro.... off subject ...have you ever watched the u-tube channel "Northmen" if you havent i think you like em ...they reminded me of "the happy people" you reference sometimes
Keep up the good work zach love your channel im 14 and am in the woods before and after school every day building shelters and hunting buildings traps as well hope to meet you in person cause i have a few questions
Chase Crowe , very cool hearing that your generation still enjoys these activities that you listed ! Those things are what I did after school almost every day growing up in the beautiful woods of northern Vermont in the late 60s and 70s , and wouldn't trade those memories for the world . You won't regret it either especially when you are older and may be occupied with the increasing pressures and time constraints of life such as family , job and home responsibilities . Wish I had You Tube back then instead of having to learn much of that bushcraft lore many years later when I now have less time to get outside to practice those skills . All the best .
Heck ya niiiiiice 💪😎✊ I wouldn't mind talking, gives us a better understanding and possible ways to improve the device in our particular area. Nice job hope to see more🤜🤛
Fun video Zach! Great to see you in the woods again. I do miss the taking at the beginning setting up/introduction of the video, maybe some voice over or text in the middle while making the trap. Great admiral ackbar “it’s a trap” clip at the end. I’m a Star Wars nerd too.
WoW, very cool! Yes, please do more like this - explain later. AWESOME VIDEO & VERY EFFECTIVE!!! Hope you, your family & your friends are having an AWESOME DAY!!! :-)
I love all of your videos, but I do enjoy these survival type videos more. I would also enjoy some woodworking type videos, like boats or furniture, since I know you have the skills. Even better, some wilderness type woodworking, like how to make joinery for shelter or furniture with your survival tools. No matter what, keep making videos that you enjoy, because it is always fun to watch you having fun.
That is so cool But it would be nice if you could do a video on the snaring knots Yes continue this series and you should also do a video on shooting and aiming sling shots because I have one like a wrist rocket but don't know how to use it 😀🤣
I have recently subscribed after discovering you and i enjoy each and every video you post. I live in the uk so your presentation and approach to video making is refreshing to me. Plus your bushcraft / catty skills are insanely good. Lol i have recently purchased a catty from watching your vids and plan to buy a cold steel shovel asap lol. I liked the video and would like to see more, but i prefer it when you talk us through the process, within like 50 odd seconds into the vid i was thinking hey wheres that crazy voice gone lol Im kinda new too bushcraft and felt myself thinking when the vid finished that i need to re watch it as i dont feel confident i learnt as much as i could from just a 1 time watch. So from that angle you will up your views but from a viewers perspective i was left wanting more 🤓 Either way i hope to see more vids in this series.
I like the video, but I think maybe you should go a little slower with some of the parts and provide a little more detailed explanation. It would have been nice to have a little more explanation of how you were doing the triggering system. For example, you might want to say the toggle stick needs to be flat on this one side and be about 3 inches long and you don't want to cut it like this but you want to cut it here etc.
I’ve been doing a lot of rewinding and even slowed the frames down to as slow as I could but I get lost with the knot at 1:45. What kind of knot is that?
Yeah Zack , this would be a great subject for more vids . I enjoyed this a lot and evidently others did as well . Fascinating subject material , great editing and camera work , good music , excellent slow - motion close - up action footage and a clever scripture reference to boot ! As someone who has already learned some of the basic design principles behind these cool survival traps , I thought you showed quite well , especially with the slo- mo , how this one worked , but after reading some of the comments , I can understand why some made requests for you to explain in a bit greater detail the hows and whys of building these in any future snare making vids . All the best ! VT Rat (;-)
One flaw... Trim all the leaves and branches of your spring limb. It does two things... 1) speeds up your spring. 2) reduces the chances of wind blowing your spring limb around that can cause a false triggering.
I really liked this format video. Maybe a little talking in the setup, but this was great. I much prefer this style video where you are more to the point without a ton of sidetracking.
Wow I remember my older cousin showing me how to make these traps as a kid, trapping feral chickens with them, I think I was 10 years old. we put rice/seeds around the trap and we would get them every time. I wonder where he learned this from, we were born and raised on a small tropical island called "Saipan"Northern Mariana Islands!
LOL that might be the first good case for not puting more of an expination in LOL ya ill add more next time after the fun first bit for those that want to see it in detal.
I definitely enjoyed the trapping/fabrication part of the video. As to your question about talking: I do like how concise you've made it by not following along in real-time. However, my preference would be for a little more explanation at some of the key points - i.e. explaining the actual trap mechanism, why you chose to place the stakes at the points you did, the actual mechanics of a 7-stick-and-toggle mechanism and so on. Perhaps a happy medium, where you explain the important bits and then fast-forward through the trimming, cutting and digging would be optimal. However, that's merely one viewer's opinion. Keep up the great work!
Like this tripping stuff...... keep them coming. Oh and if you could slow down a bit when you make the trigger. So I can get a better look at how it is made. Thanks
Hey Fowler I like this format the only thing I wouldn’t mind adding to this content wise would be to name the knots used when making the loops and what have you. This way we can go back and research how to tie the knots in detail if needed. Keep up the great work. Thank you.
quick question :) you are using your shovel and not an axe, in your opinion, do you find the shovel to be more useful in an experience such as being out in the wilderness for any lenght of time if you also had a multitool with you? and loved the pack basket.. I rarely go anywhere without a larger version
So far I have watched Season's one thru four of Alone. I haven't seen one snare work. In a true survival situation is the energy you burn setting a bunch of snares worth the work?
I think if you use wire and you are going for deer , bear or rabbits or raccoons you could do well. But none of that works unless it's a survival situation cuz for the most part dear and Bear snaring is it legal. In which case if you were prepared you'd have some nice professional snare sets with locks and you wouldn't be messing around with paracord
@@FowlersMakeryandMischief thank you for replying. Let's rule out snares for big game. How effective are snares on small game when you use cordage? I have friends that are trappers and take raccoons and coyotes with snares, but the are using braided wire snares. BTW I do have a friend who came across a deer who got caught in a coyote snare once.
Genius, I have made snare traps very similar to this, only difference is it doesn't involve a hole in the ground, but this method seems it would be better, I will definitely have to try it
Enjoyed this style of video. I would have liked a little more detail on the trap sticks themselves but until I try it it may have had the correct amount information.
I really liked the format and content of this video and I'd love to see more. In future videos, however, it'd be nice'if yo made it clearer how the more complicated knots are tied because it wasn't too obvious here and id be left trying to figure a not out myself with pretty much the same function.. I look forward to seeing more!!
Dk if I liked you taking the "primitive technology" approach to narration in the first part of the vid, but sometimes it is indeed better to show instead of tell. Overall it's a cool trap! Keep em coming man!
Enjoyed this format. Would like to see a recreation of every trap & trigger you attempted in Pategonia that wound up on the cutting room floor. A shame they don't realize how many folks find this kind of thing incredibly interesting - they seem to prefer to show suffering instead..
I was taught to always clear of any other branches and leaves so it has less wind resistance when sprung. leaving yourself just a bent pole basically. but at the same point it is slightly more obvious to the eye.
For the most part yes. You can get A trapping license And trap Certain animals in season With professional wires nearest purchased. For primitive trapping Is a no go.

Thanks Fowler! Please do more snare/trap videos and PLEASE DO include the talking, its easier to " get" with an explanation, thanks!
Awesome video. Very easy and simple snare. I have seen other people that make it look so complicted but you made it easy to understand. Thank you for the video.
Yes, more traps and this one was awesome. Appreciate your time, and your giving back to the woodspeople who enjoy everything you share.
your welcom thanks for watiching
Love to see how these stand up to live animals.
The Wooded Beardsman I guess the trapper has to pick the right size sapling, strong enough for the target species size. is that what you're referring to? Enough lift?
Me to me to maybe some day
They work reasonable well.
Thanks for the video
cool more expleing in the next one after the fast build at the begining
That would be great. Thanks 👍
When you cut the sapling I thought look! A slingshot! Before you showed us! Fun and educational video, thanks Zach!

??How long does one of your shovels last for you?? You do a lot of different work with one.
for ever as far as i know haven rally used one up yet

Hello i am fans from indonesia, and i like your spirit survival in the junggle
More and talking you rock!!!
Thanks Ill take a bit more time to explain what i did
Fowler I thought you said batoning with a knife is stupid lol great video Fowler
LOL you caught me . I stand by that if you have to hit it with a peace of wood then its a big enough project you should have an ax or shovel ;)
True true
Thank you. Very instructive.
T37912 your very welcome
Nice, will this be a catch and cook on a rotisserie? 🤔
If only ;:( may have to move out of the us if i want to do that
Great format. Dense with info.
Personally I prefer a complete run through of what you are doing, had to watch it a good few times to get an understanding of what was going on haha!
LOL that might be the first good case for not puting more of an expination in LOL ya ill add more next time after the fun first bit for those that want to see it in detal.
Great video as always...what kind of knot is that you used?
i only used a cow hitch for the snare loop with a square and the others were just clove hitches and square knots
My left ear enjoyed this video.
O no I used my back up camera and forgot to reset the channel to stare darn it thanks or the heads up
Yes! More!

Could u go over the snare rope knots a little slower for us in the back?
Ill how more details in furter vidoe
