I love watching your videos. Mahalo for all the new ideas of places to try on my next visit to Oahu. The lau lau looked delicious. I like Helena's lau lau and kalua pork.
Grew up in Waipahu. Love the fried noodles. I think the noodles use to some with teriyaki meat with it. Bento are good too. School lunch, lunch box, obento, and Ultimate Bento. I like coconut turnover.
As a longtime local, living on the Mainland for the past 35 years, I find your videos tremendously attractive...delicious. And helpful. You make food LOOK delicious, sorta natural, with your expressions and verbals. Before I visit, I’ll be armed with names and places of local places.; they should be full of mahalo for your sincere commentary of foods. Best wishes for continued success. Aloha! Patrick
BRAH! Leeward's is my STOMPING GROUNDS! Their fried noodles is BOMB. BBQ burgers used to be really good but lately hasn't been the same. Small kid time, I lived right down da street from Leeward's, so we would always go down there for school lunch for field trips and stuff. Good choice! Gotta get a Green River to go with da grindz!
Gimme that old school cheeseburger and Felix's plate lunch. The chicken, fried noodles, and mac salad look broke da mouth. Hawaiian style mac salad almost deserves its own video.Y'all are such wonderful ambassadors of Hawaii and local food joints. And special thanks to Yvonne! Y'all, never stop being awesome and cool. Like you are! Mahalo.
The burger you should eat is their BBQ Burger w/ Mayo.... it's a teri hamburger but my favorite. Also try the "Special" fried noodles.... same as the regular but with bean sprouts added. Their beef stew, beef curry, sweet sour spareribs are all great and try their teri beef plate with fried noodles.... just like the old "Heights Drive Inn" fried noodle special.... just as good, maybe even better. I really enjoy your videos... great job Amanda and Felix!
One of the best things about your videos you’re so spontaneous and real!! I always enjoy them!! Keep it up!! Sometimes we don’t know where to eat and you’ve given us some great ideas!!
Yup!!! Leeward no bettah! then Rainbow’s, Gravy and fried chicken a staple started many moons ago in the Philippines not sure when Max’s or Jolly bee started it but same theory! Great Vlog! 🤙🏼
Leeward’s fries are the best. My wife always criticized them when we were dating, but after many Leeward fries STOLEN from my stash she has seen the light. She now loves them and orders her own bag. That yellow sauce in the burger is a mixture of mayo, mustard and relish. Growing up in the 60s, a lot of drive inns served burgers with that sauce. It used to be sold bottled in supermarkets too. The noodles can be ordered without garnishes. Awesome video! Looking forward to viewing more videos
Hi Amanda & Felix, more Cheap Eats please. It is amazingly nice what you both do for these local businesses. I’ve lost my business of 30 years last Oct., still sadden, but I’m glad the local businesses in Hawaii made it through. Love all your videos, binge watched all of it and subscribed. Thank you both for all your hard work. Looking forward to the next one. Much Loveshugs&kisses from LA.😘😘
We're very sad to hear about your business 😔 this pandemic really impacted the world and also our homes. Plenty of local favorite businesses that relied on tourism had also closed here. It's what motivated us to start our channel and we hope to be able to travel soon and bring awareness to local/ small businesses everywhere! Mahalo nui for watching and supporting us! 💕🤙
16:1919:0731:43 this is why I watch you guys lol. Great spot to review too. And yeah, they’ve been testing out the rail at random times for a while now
I forgot about Leeward Drive Inn. I grew up in central Oahu and went there a lot as a kid. I live on the mainland now and the family and I going visit in a few weeks. Definitely going hit Leewards. Mahalo for making this channel and good to see "Da Von"
Another video about my kind of food. There was a time when I lived on Oahu and I primarily ate at DriveIns. I always feel nostalgic when I eat these kind of local foods. I would have eaten all of these foods and enjoyed them. Mahalo and Aloha.
My favorite foodies! Always look forward to your videos. Been eating leeward long time. They give plenny, no broke da pocket! A good fill up kine place. Take care, support locals! Much love and aloha 😎🤙🏾
New subscriber here, been watching all your videos and LOVE your channel! The food you showcase looks so good and your reviews feel the most genuine. Can't wait to get back to the Islands to try out all of your recommendations!! 😀
Thank you guys for sharing this vlog. Brings back memories. I used to walk by there every day when going to Waipahu Intermediate. Really good local food. Especially the fried saimin. Felix makes all the food look so good. Makes me hungry when I see you guys eat.
Awesome! Awesome! I grew up in Waipahu, saw this place a zillion times but passed it up for Zippys! I’m living in Norcal now but we still have our house in Waipahu. Going back for a month long vacay and will definitely swing by Leeward Drive in for sure! Mahalo!!
Hi ! Looked like a great place for comfort food , we really enjoyed Yvonnes honest opinion! Dipping the burger in gravy was excellent Alex! Thanks for showing us a great video and keep up the good work ! Have a wonderful week ! Eileen and John
Funny I watched your video this afternoon noon and i had to go to leeward to get food for dinner. I haven't been there in over 10 years. I ended up ordering exactly what Felix ordered lol.
Originally from Waipahu ended up in Oklahoma after retiring from the US ARMY. Enjoyed your video about Leeward Drive Inn. Have you guys reviewed any Filipino restaurants? Keep it up
Yup, good grinds there. Grew up in Waipahu from the mid 60's right up the street. $1.50-$1.75 fried noodles I believe, bbq pork sandwich, french fries, peach turnover. Keep up the awesome videos, I really enjoy them!
I used to hang out there to read a book in peace. But then about seven years ago it started getting sketchy, so I don’t do that anymore. I don’t know how things are there now, though.
Thanks for the introduction to the food at Leeward’s, esp. the saimin and chicken. I want to try the ube “pop tart” and the wonderful looking dessert from Frostcity!,
I live in Aiea. The rail has been running passenger-less since late last year. Was supposed to be in service from Kapolei to Aloha Stadium since October. Everyone just eye-rolls whenever it passes.
Mahalo for giving them a try! She was really nice! Also, we will be checking out Honolulu kitchen one of these days! Felix used to get them when he worked near by! 🤙💕
Haha, yup. You can tell a drive-in is good if their burger is bomb! There’s a burger called the “Mana Burger” which is a grilled cheese, teriyaki, fried egg burger at Verna’s Drive-In in Hilo. Must-eat!! So good!
Glad you finally made it out to Leeward Drive Inn! Don't know if you recall but from one of your early early videos when Amanda said she liked soggy fries, I mentioned going to Leeward....the BEST soggy fries. I sometimes go there just for the fries and maybe a turn over. IMO, they're better than any other fries including McDonalds. Sometimes if you're lucky, they're slightly undercooked so they have an al dente bite. Also good there are the fried rice and sweet-sour spare ribs.
That's the benchmark for a good burger joint/drive-in: The double cheeseburger. That double cheeseburger gotta be on point! If that burger ain't right, it makes me question the whole rest of the menu. But, that's just me. Not everybody thinks like I do. Right?
You are right. Those simple Leeward burgers are like the original McDonald's that as a kid were two bit burgers...a quarter for one!!! Many, many moons ago. Leeward and Rainbow rock. I agree with Vonn that Leeward has got a little somthin somthin goin on.
We live right across the street from Leeward Drive- Inn. I recommend getting the Ultimate Mixed Plate next time. It has a little bit of everything. It feeds me and my 2 kids..lol..
@@AmandaFelixEats I usually like my fries crispy but for some reason I like Leeward's soggy fries. Lol! If you guys are out late one night, you should go to Miki's in Pearl City!
You gotta eat the fries with the yellow sauce. I love eating their box lunch with added luncheon meat, and Teri beef sandwich. The turnovers are the bomb!
lol... the townies haven't heard of the rail trains rolling... I live in Waipahu...they've been rolling for some time now (at least since about Dec 2019 when I moved to Waipahu) every day and have heard it as late as past midnight some times. As for Leeward Drive Inn (though it's just about 1 1/2 miles away), I had tried going there, but all the times I've driven by there - it's always busy and could not find parking...so yeah, I've given up going there. But seeing this video, it's tempting me once again to try Leeward...
I've been married over 40 years. It doesn't change Felix This is only the beginning for you, but you already got it down. Whatever she wants too keep her happy. Even if she turns down your suggestions, don't get frustrated. Trust me, it's not worth it. BTW, I'm team good soggy fries or team good crisp fries. Soggy fries are only good if it's well made and Leeward's looks well made.
Love Leeward Drive Inn! Their noodles are the BOMB!! I never tried their fried chicken yet, but if you love fried chicken from a local family place please do a review of KJ's Local Grindz in Kaneohe. Ono!!
Wow!!! Felix, All three plates look Ono. But, Amanda's plate, so simple but "YUM!!!". I love the fried Saimin and the chicken, anything Saimin I love. Great video guys, HI! DaVonne...... Mahalo nui🤙🏾

Back in the early early 70's my mom worked there...Waipahu was the plantation Hub back in the day, many plantation workers would end up at Leeward for lunch, Yvonne you hit it on the nail, adding to your comment, the food reminds me of the meals the plantation workers prepared, in my teens I picked pineapples during the summer months, the old timer employee's always had home lunches and often the meals prepared mimic's the counter orders at places like Leeward, Rainbows, and many other old school drive Inn eateries....Amanda, I'm in the same boat as you...I love my noodles, last week I had the Teri beef with Noodles....Mahalo's for your post you guyz, love the nostalgia...and of course the flavors of my youth.....You guys are awesome

That dessert looked ono. You guys should try "Thrills" soft serve on the corner of Kona & Piikoi, flavors always changing, really good.. Keep up the cool vids!
before you guys even mentioned where Frost City was, I thought that it looked like the University area. now when I'm home, I'm going to have to drag my Mom and my sister there to get dessert. ;)
I noticed that in all videos open hours are not listed, I flew into ohou to pickup and take back home to catch flight back 6 hours later found most closed in late afternoon.had to go places that were open at nite
Hi Buddies! That's fricking HUGE plates🤣🤣! That Fried Saimin looks Winnas hows that grinded down fishcake👍. Read they got one of the best mac salads. Aloha Amanda & Felix (and Yvonne too!). Let's hear it for team soggy fries (sorry Felix). Food looked delicious, are you able to get the fried saimin without the meat/pork in it or is it pre-made? I've gotta check out Frost City. Mahalo for another great vlog!
Aloha Paula! #TeamSoggyFries! Mahalo for watching and supporting us! The saimin i think is made in bulk..?
