My favorite at a crack seed shop was the dark brown mango seed they use to put it in a small brown bag and we as kids would suck the bag to get all the juices
Back in the day, after Japanese school in Kapahulu, we would go across the street to the Okamura store. (Wayne Newton's ex-wife) For a nickel, we "dined" on dill pickle in wax, red squid legs, dried seafood squares, button candy on paper, cigarette candy, etc. Yummy!
Crack seed store is LIFE! Li hing lychee 🔥! Takes me back to my childhood. Whenever we visit, I always bring enough back to the mainland to last at least enough till our next visit. Awesome content guys!
I just started watching your videos and love them! I was born and raised in Hawaii but live on the mainland now so these videos are bringing me home. My dad is the executive chef at Kahai Street Kitchen so this was a fun one to watch😊
Cracked up so hard watching you guys eating the plum seed and making sour faces, especially you, Felix! Brought me back to salty mui days! Thanks so much for sharing your ono adventures with us!
Don Quijote on Kaheka has the best deal for sliced in front of you prime rib - Saturdays only - $12 - comes with mashed potatoes, cut corn, au jus, and horseradish. Go early, around 10 AM - they usually sell out by 11 AM.
Omg we randomly stumbled across Kahai Kitchen when we were in Oahu. So honored that a random restaurant we picked was good enough to be on your channel! 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Loved the video. The girls and I were dying at your faces eating the sour plum 🤣
We've been waiting to review Kahai Street! Glad you guys were able to enjoy it while here! And yes, the plum was so sour! 😂😂 tell Sean, Ella, and Serg we say Hi! 🤙💕
My family’s go to for prime rib is House of Prime Rib in San Francisco. Meat is cut to order table side. If you guys ever venture out to NorCal, it’s a must visit, just make sure to make reservations prior.
Oh, the crack seed store!!! How I miss them. We used to have a small one, mom and pop one, in Mānoa back when dinosaurs roamed the earth. All kine good stuffs. As kids we'd spend our allowance down there. Now my mouth is watering. I wish shipping weren't so expensive. I'm a new follower and love your channel!
So ono as always. Honolulu Crack Seed store is so OG! Remember when it was dry and then wet lemon peel and everyone was pickling their own green mango. My favorite was the one we called the football because it was shaped like a football.
I remember AIEA CRACK SEED STORE. When ever we had .25 cents, we learned about paying tax. So we needed to ask for a penny. Back then we could buy .25 cents worth of soft li hing mui. The old man used to have small cut brown paper (lunch bag). And the ICEE we used to save the DIAMONDS to get a FREE small ICEE.
Seems like the last few new vlogs have had great music which has been added to the section where you are driving to your destination. The drive footage is always interesting to me, as it shows us main-landers what navigating thru Oahu is really like. As always, your choicest food, dessert and drink selections have been added to my where-to-go list for our next trip. Thank you for that!!
Mahalo for noticing Sharon! We take forever sometimes just to select the right song for the video! 😬 we're glad to be able to give you different insights on local food here! Mahalo for watching and supporting! 🤙💕
The Stadium Park area is nostalgic for me. I used to live right on Isenberg, then around the corner on South Beretania. But I'm old enough so that was before the Park. I used to go to the Stadium for Islander Baseball. Right on the corner of King and Isenberg were two of my plate lunch places, Chunkies Drive Inn and Goody Goody Drive Inn. I lived on those places. Close by on University by the theater was my crack seed place. Thanks for the nostalgia, hadn't thought about those places in years. Loved the area. Also love chicken katsu with lots of gravy or curry. Lemon peel is my go to. Mahalo and Aloha.
Watching you from Alabama.I grew up in old school Honolulu with the Managua/Spinach man coming to our houses. Manapua-candy truck. All these new fancy restraunts 👍😁
I grew up loving every crack seed there was/is. Anything with li hing or lemon peel is so ‘ono! My current fave is dehydrated lemon li hing. I can eat those forever. But everywhere seems to run out of them quickly (Wholesale Unlimited, Lin’s, etc.). I went to Kalihi Waena Elementary back in the days and across was Gulick Store...da best with Icee, manapua, rice cake and crack seeds of course. Love your videos! Mahalo for sharing!
Ray's cafe for prime rib. Price has gone up over the years, but still a good deal and always winnahs! The fried chicken is bomb too! I've always pronounced lychee as "lai-chee". I think most locals do. You can tell a person is not local when they call it lee-chee. LOL!
You two are delightful, you need your own tv show. I'm always looking for places to eat since I drive around the island for work. Can't wait to try out your recommendations. Also like your support of Mom and Pop establishments.
Amanda you seem so much more comfortable in front of the camera! I enjoy your liveliness! I never heard of unicorn poo! I miss crack seed shops here in LA! Great video!
Aloha Amanda & Felix. The food looked SO amazing in this vlog, especially the fish plate lunch. The expressions on both of your faces while eating the salted/vinegar plums was priceless! Mahalo for showing more and more interesting places to check out. Happy Aloha Friday!
Hi ! Happy Friday ! When your retired everyday is happy Friday ! The fish plate looked really good ! Even with the flies you folks made the video so enjoyable . Keep up the good work . I’m showing too much age here, we had pennie can’t stores jaw beakers Mary Jane bars
You guys are making our must go to list HUGE!!! I think I’m gonna need more than two weeks 🤣. Keep up the great videos you both do an awesome job!!!!!!!!!! Matt and Jen
Now that you mention it, crack seed stores are pretty rare nowadays. Not a big fan of the stuff but my fave in high school were li hing gummies or other homemade stuff classmates would sell.
Hi guys great to see yall the food looks great as always that prime rib looked great Hazels surgery went well I will more on mine on Monday thank you both for the well wishes see ya in the next one
Tamarind small plum crack seed lemon peel and on and on love my crack seed!!! So much better from the jar!!! I saw Prune Mui yum!! Love your videos!! Use to eat Kahai in Kilihi lunch time!! Mahalo!!!
I remember.catching the bus.home.from.school and ala moana was the middle point to transfer bus. I'd go to the crack seed store in ala Moana near Sera's Surf Shop back in the 80s.
Kahai Street! One of the BEST! The Opakapaka is our favorite! Almost everything Chef does back there is ONO! Like you said QUALITY! Amanda made a comment about no celery in the Salads - its a preservative that everyone uses, and i stay away from places with Celery, Onion or Pickles in their Mac and Potato salads. Best Foods too! No Earthy Mayo - just the Best! As a kid - we had Hughes Drugs, who sold all the Candies. I ate SO much my Teeth rotted before my Teens! There was also a great Ice Snack called Li Hing Mui Ice Cake. it was made by Yick Lung that went out of business. There is a Business that makes them now. Not the same though. Usually sold in Longs Drugs. The YL product made you pucker! You two have generated a bunch of local competition! Keep up your great work and originality!
Aloha Juki! Mahalo for sharing your insights! That ice cake you described sounds like the ice cakes we used to eat as kids! School would sell it as a snack for 10cents back then! And yes, there been plenty more local 'food' channels these days 🤔 at least local businesses are getting exposure! 😬 Mahalo for watching and supporting us! 🤙💕
Been going to Kahai for awhile, my go to is the Guava Brisket, or Hamburger Steak Pork Chop Katsu, and of course the fish specials. Prime Rib for our gang is Rays, been going here since young kid time, end cut all the time! Keep up the great work.
I saw you guys getting into your car at the Old Stadium Park that day but didn't want to run up on y'all. I really enjoy your videos and you've introduced me to so many spots that I must visit. Hoping to meet you two at some point down the road. Mahalo!
Felix!! That was me that said what’s up from my van yesterday while you were walking your dog! 🤣 We live around the corner by the Shell hahaha. Had to show you guys some love! 🙏🏾🤙🏾
Hey! Sorry I am pretty late but my parents and me are such huge fans of you and we went to a lot of places you went to! This is just a support comment, keep up the good work on your channel 💕
I actually liked CRACK seed from which the slang originated. I think it was basically sweet whole seed and someone took a hammer to it and cracked it. I haven't seen it in crack seed stores in a while though. Probably a choking hazard, but part of the fun was spitting out the cracked pieces. I also liked Horlicks chocolate or malted tablets, probably not local though. It came in a small "Crown Royal" shaped bottle with maybe 2 dozen 1/2" diameter tablets stacked neatly inside. Last time I saw it was in a gourmet candy store on the mainland, but it wasn't in the iconic bottle anymore, and they didn't taste quite the same.
I remember seeing this place in Kalihi a while back but never been, got so much other food options there I guess. Those 3 dishes look so "Ono"! I gotta try'em out. Mahalo for sharing your food adventures! Keep up the awesome videos!
For us over hea ! We go to Texas Roadhouse Prime rib done well ! Yummy Goodness from the Honolulu CrackSeed shop ! I am enjoying our goodies from Wholesale Unlimited ,the lemon peel but ...I am missing the Icee ! Mahalo you two !
Love this place I think I'd try that Katsu with gravy normally I wouldn't because I'm sensitive and watching sodium so I appreciate when things aren't overly seasoned or salty or doused with gravy this would be just right for me lol.
Yay! I love pickled mango fresh! Lemon peel and wet li hing plum! Just ordered a pound from kaimuki crack seed house! Love shave ice with vanilla ice cream too! 👍🏿💕
Wow, this video really made me feel hungry! Prime rib, is my most favorite thing on the planet, lol. Gotta go with medium rare! The Opakapaka looked so delicious. That Chicken Katsu looked interesting, gotta try that one too. I'm a big Chicken Katsu fan, so was that one still crunchy after the gravy was poured on it?? How much was all of that? It did look a little pricey. You guys make it look so ono. The crack seed and ice cream floats looked delicious also! Thank you Amanda & Felix, for all your hard work!! ALOHA!!! Kenny
Felix Looks like he been working out 🏋️♀️ And that katsu crunch and thickness tho! I’ve never been to a crack seed shop but I’ve seen those jars in the Asian stores and this just convinced me to stay on Oahu when we visit the islands in November.
Push ups at home! 😅 Hawaii is definitely a crock pot of cultures. You should definitely check out and try a Crack seed store when you're here! Mahalo again Jess! 🤙
We tried Ray's for Prime Rib numerous times but not as good as before for the price and not seasoned well. The Best Takeout Prime Rib is by far Diner's Drive Inn in Kalihi for $22 you get the Prime Rib, Toss Salad, Au Jus and Horseradish. The Prime Rib has so much seasoning my kids were shocked at the flavor. The only negative part is it is only available on Fridays!
I remember eating slices of a dried whole abalone with a pocket knife - so delicious 😋. My favorite sandwich was from the old Jolly Rogers on Waialae, a Cheesy Girl (thin slices of Teriyaki Pork with a slice of cheddar cheese, lettuce on a hamburger bun) 🍔👍🥰
We’ll need to try that place to eat. Thank you for the mention of Honolulu Crack Seed. Those sour faces was funny!! I ate those plums as a kid but I didn’t wanna try it again😂😂
My nickname is crackseed or as my friends call me seed I sold crackseed from Kapahulu to Wahiawa all the way around 1/2 the island. Also there is no true crackseed anymore It’s smashed seed not crackseed I set up stores with the glass jars and took care of them every week I can’t remember how many bags of seed I sold every week but it was easy in the hundreds And it was a lot of fun meeting the old school stores like ChingTong Leong Miss those days
Another outstanding video guys! Everything looks good but I’d give anything for some of that chicken katsu poutine about now 🤤 Happy Aloha Friday to all the A&F Eats Foodie Ohana!😎🤙 #20,000K #letsgo
Eh guyz, U mentioned "old school" snacks. Back up a couple GENS when "crack seed" wasn't a generic catch-all term. Because it was my mom's fav, I grew up eating "CRACK SEED". ...spitting out all the bits of seed, & etched on my brain is the visual of moms licking the brown paper bag it came in to get the last of the coating! YUM! ONO!
That prime rib looked so prime!!! 😝 Looked so juicy & ʻono! My fave part is the fat. Also, my fave place to get prime rib here on the big island is Dimple Cheek or Sky Garden Imiloa. Nice vid once again!!
i knew kahai kitchen when they were in kalihi will try their new location. you know there were tons of homeless at the park across the street king n isenburg n at old stadium park best to go to magic island to eat n my mouth is watering with your crack seed i will look for that shop when im in town thanks
Hi Buddies, great review. Oh yeah that fish plate looks onoliscious. my kinda grindz. My sister would love that chicken katsu plate & prime rib, guess we heading there tommorow. Potato/mac yeeah! Crack seed 🤣🤣not a drug corner good one Felix. Your guys faces whoa on that sour plum🤣🤣🤣 Lemon peel my fave too. We go to C-Mui on Bethel Street in Downtown. 👍
15K, almost there! The best prime rib I've ever had was in Culpeper, VA at Aberdeen Farms in the Holiday Inn. I've been to Lawry's Steakhouse and Morton's Steakhouse, but Aberdeen Farms was the best. Unfortunately, that was over 30 years ago and I don't know if it's still there. Good to know that you can get a good prime rib for a plate lunch. Do they still have the crack seed leis? That was really popular a very long time ago. My favorite is still rock salt plumb. Even my haole wife likes it. Lemon peel is another favorite of mine.
Yes, Crack seed Lei's are still around! Although around graduation time. Plenty people are saying Lawry's is the best.. we definitely gotta go next time we travel! 🤙
I'm not a big beef eater, however my sister gave me a couple pieces of prime rib, it was bomb great seasonings i ended up getting a piece asked cutter to please give me a small piece had it at HALE KOA the best Prime Rib i ate anywhere.
@@AmandaFelixEats Hale Koa had it at their dinner buffet. my niece's husband a marine reserved restauarant for my auntie's (their grandma's) birthday party.
My favorite at a crack seed shop was the dark brown mango seed they use to put it in a small brown bag and we as kids would suck the bag to get all the juices
Thank you for coming down and trying us out Amanda & Felix! We appreciate the support!
Happy to support hard working locals! 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Green pickled plum!!! Surprised you’ve never had it! It’s been around forever! Love it!!!!
Yummy!
That sounds very nostalgic! I remember those cigarette candies and chewing tobacco pouch ones 😅
I lol everytime Felix gets near a prime rib...his happy big bruddha beef happy hour...opakapaka has to be tasted to be believed...yumz.

That's Amanda's favorite Crack seed store! Also, our friend's family recently took over the business.. will have to revisit soon! 🤙
ALOHA!!!
Kenny
Mahalo Kenny for the aloha on the video!🤙🏻 katsu pieces that didn’t have gravy was still crispy 😆 lol and of course gotta get our fave icee floats!🤤
UNICORN POOP!! LOL. OMG I gotta go!!
🌈🦄🍬 😂
Felix Looks like he been working out 🏋️♀️
And that katsu crunch and thickness tho!
Dang cheesy Teri beef and abalone?! Can't go wrong with those! 🤤
We’ll need to try that place to eat.
Thank you for the mention of Honolulu Crack Seed. Those sour faces was funny!!
I ate those plums as a kid but I didn’t wanna try it again😂😂
Should've warned us Ryne! 😅😅😂😂 it was good though!
@@AmandaFelixEats I didn’t know it was going to be that sour😂😂😂
My nickname is crackseed or as my friends call me seed
I sold crackseed from Kapahulu to Wahiawa all the way around 1/2 the island.
Also there is no true crackseed anymore
It’s smashed seed not crackseed
I set up stores with the glass jars and took care of them every week
I can’t remember how many bags of seed I sold every week but it was easy in the hundreds
And it was a lot of fun meeting the old school stores like ChingTong Leong
Miss those days
Another outstanding video guys! Everything looks good but I’d give anything for some of that chicken katsu poutine about now 🤤 Happy Aloha Friday to all the A&F Eats Foodie Ohana!😎🤙 #20,000K #letsgo
Mahalo for the aloha and support always Lewis!🤙🏻 we hope we can reach 20K soon!🥳🥳🥳
YUM! ONO!
That's og Crack seed! Never had em like that before!
Prime Rib plate - Max and Lucy’s on Thursdays.
Tanaka Saimin on Fridays.
Primarily Prime Rib in Vegas - South Point Casino!
Sounds Ono! Gotta add it to our long to do list!🤙🏻 mahalo!
That prime rib looked so prime!!! 😝 Looked so juicy & ʻono! My fave part is the fat. Also, my fave place to get prime rib here on the big island is Dimple Cheek or Sky Garden Imiloa. Nice vid once again!!

Mahalo! 🤙
Check out lins hawaiian snacks near ward theater.
Love getting their dried coconuts, they got the chunky size!🤤🤤🤤

@@AmandaFelixEats Hale Koa had it at their dinner buffet. my niece's husband a marine reserved restauarant for my auntie's (their grandma's) birthday party.
