I generally don’t like music with my DIY videos-it’s almost always distracting and some people just don’t know how to be subtle about it, while others lack a sense of appropriate music. Excellent artistic work here: you’ve really put a lot of thought and detail in the modeling process. Maybe one suggestion would be to gently apply white acrylic paint with a piece of makeup sponge to create sea foam where particularly rough water movement would be, such as behind a boat rudder or near a beach?

Extremely helpful was the Idea of placing the boat in ‘before’ water to produce the wake. My diorama doesn’t involve boats but prehistoric sea animals but the general concept is the same. This will give them a sense of ‘Movement’. Fortunately we produce an abundance of toilet paper here in Canada. Cheers. A big thumbs up!

    Well, I finally broke down and bought a roll of toilet paper and tried the toilet paper water... As I applied the watered down glue mixture, I realized why you had to add 3-4 layers of TP to the "harbour"... After applying about three layers, The toilet paper started making its own waves with the pushing of the paint brush (like the one you're using) so I decided that the tiny waves would be of perfect size as my layout is N scale. Although this procedure requires 72 -76 hours of drying time (depending on the humidity in the air) I think it is well worth the effort. One thing people should know if they do decide to do their water this way - Buy yourself some cheap white glue - it can get real expensive using good quality/brand name stuff! I would also wait until the toilet paper has fully dried before painting and adding the clear coat. Makes it easier to use the brush and not clog it up unintentionally as most soggy plasters do.

  • @mjk6618
    @mjk6618 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Something for you to try... lightly paint over the tops of the "white caps" on the waves with a stiff brush and using your white paint. When dry, add another gloss coat. Repeat as needed until you get a splashy wave result. You can do this to enhance what you already have. I have done this on several layouts, you will love the result. Make another video and let us see how it works for you. I use the high gloss Modge Podge for my clear coat instead of white glue.

    "But before you start, remember to ask your mum if you can use the toilet paper...." I'm not into model railways but I like painting and love the creativity here. I was a bit disappointed when he didn't put white froth at the top of the little waves, I would have been so tempted to do that. But in the end, the light shining on all the varnish on top of the paint gave you the same effect, or better. This was a really random video for me, but I loved it, and appreciate the care that went into making it.

After it's dry, it would lend itself to wet-on-wet techniques with alcohol inks, watercolor, as well as acrylics, on canvas & other substrates.
