This was an EXHAUSTING match to cast, much closer than the last series between them. Thanks again to World Team League (WTL) for putting on this World vs Korea showmatch series, really appreciate all the matches they've been organizing lately.
Spoilers for the End (YES REAL SPOILERS YOU WERE WARNED):
Jimmy loaded up the matches in the exact reverse order. It WAS a Best of 5 series, just played in reverse. We missed out on some real drama by having that Hard Lead match first instead of the epic conclusion. He will be severely disciplined.

Terran was already the top performing race by miles and they do ridiculous shit like buff the most overpowered unit in the game "the widow mine" their play is obvious.... Blizzard ruined their chance of being the #1 esport, this is just a legacy of failure after failure of balance in this game. Widow mines shouldn't hit air units tbh, neither should archons or fungal growth

As a reference Winter ”Rådhuset” means Town hall in Swedish. So map is basically called town hall station by the mapmaker.

It’s gotta be Serral’s macro game that makes him unstoppable. Idk how he always does it, but he’s just SO good at managing his bases, injecting, queen and zergling placement for the early game, holding off pressure, and he seems like he always has a way bigger and stronger army. He knows exactly when he can hold a base and when to let it go, and saves so many drones because of it. He just seems like he’s nearly impossible to keep pressure on. Man is a LEGEND.
Serrals playstyle is how zerg is designed and played.
And it's unlikely to change in the future, so serral has a good chance of staying best zerg player for quite a while.

I am nowhere near talented enough in the game to say the patch did this or that to the balance, but it feels like the upsides for Zerg and Protoss came with downsides elsewhere while the downsides for Terran are pretty superficial.
Definitely going to be interesting to see what Terran looks like against anyone who isn’t Serral. I suspect it’s gonna become Terrancraft at most tournament finals, but considering how little it seems to have slowed Serral down maybe there’s hope.
There's gonna be a token zerg and token toss, and every terran is gonna claim how it's fair and balanced because each race is represented.
@@HellecticMojoyou underestimate Terran blame-shifting…. I’ve already had a couple Terrans rage quit and tell me how Zerg got all the buffs lol
@@HellecticMojoi honestly doubt the toss part. There simply isn’t a Protoss player on par with Serral, and i feel like this patch didn’t change much of anything about Protoss while buffing Terran and keeping Zerg mostly the same.
@@ZerglingLover I really don't buy the whole protoss are wholly occupied by scrubs take. Protoss just pays too much for little mistakes so it's just noticeable.
@@HellecticMojo I’m not saying they are, i’m saying that they don’t have a golden player. Like, can you seriously say that Hero or Maxpax are as good as Serral and Maru? Also, i’m not necessarily disagreeing with you; I feel like Protoss is very poorly balanced right now.
Yeesh creep denial afforded by a few cyclones during the early game is just insane, I don't see how Zerg other than Serral and maybe Dark will really be able to effectively deal with them. It's scary to think what that level of early game aggression will do to Protoss.

They should let medivacs pick up burrowed widow mines. Also let widow mines jump into and out of dead space behind the mineral lines. Also, when widow mines hide in dead space, they're impossible to kill.
widow mine now shoot 4 target .10 sec cd and remove friend fire
Widow mine doesn’t need a buff since it already breaks the fourth wall and deal emotional damage to Zerg and toss

The problem is, that trying to 'nerf Serral' may make Zerg unplayable for everyone else. Serral is the kind of guy who would win no matter what race he picked and should not be Starcraft 2's target for balance.

@@SicketMog well from lower ranks to pro matches consensus seems to be the cyclone is pretty bad actually, but you're free to disagree.
If you have actual evidence to the contrary, I know x5 pig was looking for replays of cyclones destroying zerg, and he hadn't been getting many because people he talked to had said they had it figured out by day 2.

New cyclone is bullshit (I have yet to face it much though; mines are, always were and likely always will be MORE bullshit imho). Edit: and I'm not saying it's bullshit because it's OP, because again I haven't faced it enough yet to tell, but because it's an ez to use auto attack spamming shoot while moving (like the BC) bullshit unit.
God...that third match!! ...Serral would be absolutely terrifying to play against and Cure was so on point.

Dang that first match was lovely to see Serral slowly dismantle with full efficiency. I love the overwhelming Zerg style hitting all bases all the time without rest, but Serral putting the 'S' in RTS is always a win for me :D

The cylones seem really good at creep denial. They force the zerg to pull back the overlords so its already going to be harder to rotate, but then they also force the zerg to keep the queens together so they cant even be split up anymore. I wonder what zergs are going to do? more queens? more lings? it will be intresting to see.
Yeah, seems opening with 2-6 cyclones is going to be very meta in both TvZ and TvP.

i did not expect serrals mass ling to work vs all those thors, but i guess he denied enough mining that he could get away with relying on the re-max
You kinda have to go mass lings if you are facing thors. Air is a non option, roaches are countered and hydra aren't good enough.
nah i've tested it multiple times mass thor beats mass ling, open or closed up area, at least when they all have that alt-fire mode turned on. They're ok if there aren't too many thors out yet but once thors reach a critical mass lings don't cut it and we see in that fight the thors cleaned up the lings pretty easily, but again terran was starved anyway but if he could reproduce enough of his army afterwards that would've been a bad trade for zerg.@@HellecticMojo
A comment down below said it best, the new patch has terran playing like zerg, and zerg like toss. I don’t even know what to even describe toss at this point since it seems they still have a lot of dust built up from their last actual good patch for them.
Banes are useless at high level since they will never connect banes are a micro unit now since u need to fungal in order to hit with banes

Hey guys old player coming back to the game since ive been seeing winters series recently, i'll be learning the game again from 0, but looking at the seires it looks to me that protos are quite far behind in balance prespective compared to the other 2, the cylone thing for example i dont get, costs the same as an stalker but has double dps and more ms and things like that happen in a lot of cases with protoss, could anyone explain me how to compete with protos against thing like that?

I believe he has the official match camera playing in those instances. The recording saves where the observers were looking, and he just followed their POV.

Since Cure uses most tools available in the T game, how come Banshees, Ravens and Battle Cruisers don't get used?
Does that mean that they get easily outperformed or handled effectively in TvZ or they are underpowered?
Banshee's are a pretty specialized unit for early harassment, but because of spore crawlers/queens they're very easy to lose vs Zerg. They see some play, but especially against Serral, people know they won't do much. Ravens don't typically do particularly well vs Zerg because there's not really any good target for interference matrix, and the cheeto dust has always been theoretically a useful tool that was never worth the APM investment. It also isn't really needed for detection because, well Teran.
BC is more of a counter unit in TvZ that's generally outperformed by ghosts. It's really expensive, and all it takes is a well timed abduct for the BC to just die. They also don't really have enough DPS to stop Zerg from just coming over and killing you before you reach a critical mass.
Battlecruiser openers used to be a thing. Queens handle it though.

Sort of. Serral over ran Clem by sending a ton of lurkers all over the map widow mine style and beat a widow mine pro is pretty hilarious.
Strictly speaking, it’s better than widow mine in every way except the cost and the timing since you can’t drop lurkers as early and the production time. The thing that carries widow mine in this comparison is that it can be made earlier and it has a better support unit (Medivac vs Droppelord). Which can deal lethal damage early and early mid game and counter harassing units like Mutas and Phoenix since it can shoot up the air.
@clarkp2125 that makes a lot of sense. It still seems like an almost unfair unit in many aspects though. Like a tank you need to scan, have a raven, or an observer to see. Obviously similar to WM but they only have 1 shot and the recharge you know? And I've been watching long enough to have watched serral win in 2018, man is obviously the best SC2 player ever. But God damn, everytime I hear "lurker den thrown down" I cringe for terran or protoss 😅
@@fps_superpanda5088 i mean, in zvt, outside of that little trap that serral did, i never see them do anything that siege tanks wouldn't also do.
@@fps_superpanda5088lurkers are a good unit, yes, but they come with their own downsides. first and foremost, they’re absurdly expensive to get in large numbers in which they would be useful, and secondly, they’re very vulnerable to spells/abilities. they seem imba because you have to change your unit comp when you see them, as you can’t simply charge 30 marines/ 10 zealots in and expect to win anymore. personally, as a protoss main, i think they’re very strong, but not necessarily imbalanced.
The camera work seems off for the last couple of games I've seen, sometimes it will linger over almost nothing, while one player is entering the others base...
