  • Doing some testing with the Swiss K31. This is probably my favorite rifle for 300-600 yard shooting with open sights.

My favorite load data: 168 gr. Nosler Custom Competition, 43 gr. N140 VihtaVuori, Federal 210M Primer, 74mm OAL. Necksized with RCBS die.
5 shot groups within 20 mm at a distance of 100 m scope mounted. Best regards from germany and please excuse my poor english🙂

Lapua scenar 155gr L is the bullet you are looking for, it's more about bullet length than weight. Had great results with Sellier Bellot 174gr fmj too

Love your peoples craftsmanship ❤ Greetings from the States. Just bought my first K31 after already having a k11 1911. Didn’t know the difference for the longest time ❤Then again don’t see much reason to pick a favorite when I can have them both

Lucky for sure! Though this rifle seems to shoot just about any load well.

Try getting some PPU (aka 'Prvi') B-345 heads. They are 174 grain, and they match the GP11 heads better than anything else I've tried, to the point where the bullet seats very happily at 3.060" COAL. The heads can vary a lot in weight (had as low as 172.5 and as high as 175.5gr, though that is over a couple of thousand heads) but they shoot pretty decent groups if you sort them into 0.2-0.3gr batches.
The reloads also match the sight settings pretty well out to 600m, which is the furthest I've tried.
If you are looking for more decent loads to try, give Vihtavuori N150 a go; 45.5 grain in fireformed cases gives me GP11 Vo, 780m/s. You'll need to load a touch lighter for virgin brass. I use PPU brass.

Hey my friend. Great video as usual. Just an FYI. Bell & Carlson stocks are 15% off right now for the July 4th sale. If you’re looking to restock that Mini Howa 6.5 Grendel they are available.

How sad that GP11 is so rare these days. It is the best shooting surplus ammo I've ever come across. Wasn't even 15 years ago when it was plentiful and only 50 cpr.

Try using Varget or IMR 4064 for sub MOA. If your trying to match the GP 1100, 175 sera match king with 45 grn of Varget, Sera 168 with Varget also gives amazing accuracy. Redding sizing die is the ONLY die set for reloading the K-31.

Very cool video. Does your K31 have the soldier’s tag under the butt plate? I’m guessing it’s probably not old enough.

Got any idea on subsonic loads for the k31?
Finally got one of barreled actions I bought years ago threaded and want sub ammo now obviously.
The gp11 is still spicy and ppu still mild spicy

    • @TheOutdoorGeneralist
      @TheOutdoorGeneralist  ปีที่แล้ว

Sounds like fun! I’d probably try subsonic loads for .308 Win. Trail Boss doesn’t really exist anymore unfortunately, or I’d suggest it. My only experience with light loads in full-power cartridges is with .308 in an old Spanish Mauser. I believe I went off of Hodgdon’s data for reduced loads (excellent resource, BTW) and had a super mild recoiling load with IMR 4198 and 125gr HPs going about 2200fps. I’d bet it would suppress about as well as .300 BLK supers, probably a little better because of the longer barrel. Email me for that Hodgdon reduced load paper if you can’t find it pretty quickly on the web.

cool, that was fun to watch. how's the 6.5 grendel coming? Are we going to get some videos of you fine-tuning the loads some more?

You know motto of the 6.5 Grendel: “When Grendel speaks, nobody answers. You’re already dead.”
