- We continue our conversation with the directors of “The Great Hack,” Jehane Noujaim and Karim Amer, as well as former Cambridge Analytica employee Brittany Kaiser and propaganda researcher Emma Briant, about Cambridge Analytica’s parent company SCL Group’s history as a defense contractor. “We’re in a state of global information warfare now,” Briant says. “How do we know if our militaries develop technologies and the data that it has gathered on people, for instance, across the Middle East … how do we know when that is turning up in Yemen or when that is being utilized by an authoritarian regime against the human rights of its people or against us? How do we know that it’s not being manipulated by Russia, by Iran, by anybody who’s an enemy, by Saudi Arabia, for example, who SCL were also working with? We have no way of knowing, unless we open up this industry and hold these people properly accountable for what they’re doing.”

It's not just Zuckerberg. The whole industry and government is invested in products that are conducive to spying. Your phone, tablet and laptop all have cameras pointing at you without an indicator light, without a sliding screen to block it. Snowden showed that the NSA knows about software security holes that they don't report to be fixed because they use them to spy. Every consumer industry is keeping information about their customers as if there is some legitimate reason. Why is it impossible to get off of email lists? Why does the information persist and is never deleted? There is only one reason: $$$$$

Which means the algorithm knows you consume a lot of information regarding data point analysis and online social media. Fortunately for you, in this case it worked out brilliantly because this is an issue that is not only relevant to you but also everyone else.
And marinate on this for a moment, even though Cambridge Analytica is dissolved, there's a litany of other companies who have taken its place because the results were not only effective but extremely profitable. And now we're in election year...

I deleted my Facebook back in 2015, and havent gone back - literally the best decision I have made for myself. I really wish I would have done it A LOT sooner.

@@sweetd097 25 and the same. My problem is that Facebook owns WhatsApp and I had that service before it was bought by them. I tried to switch back to simple text but a lot of people still texted me on WhatsApp, regardless of me telling them to stop.
I have never been interested in joining any of these gossip networks. I must be among the less than one percent who have not.
So extremely important for this to go mainstream.

A well-informed and alert populace can overcome any shenanigans like this. The People, esp. the youth, have no excuse. They have no one else to blame but themselves.
There are 330 million people in the USA.
222 million are eligible to vote.
90 million are between 18-34 yo. This is the youth electorate.
Only 36 million of them usually vote in the Presidential elections.
Even a whole lot less of them vote in Midterms and City elections.
If even only 80% of the youth (72 million) ever decide to become well-informed, free of misinformation and disinformation, on all the major issues of today AND devote their time, energy, resources, and talents to the political process, esp the campaigns, to make sure that only the most Loving/most Wise among us become our public servants, it will be GAME OVER for the dynastic plutocratic families, the corporate oligarchs, and the international banksters.
At least 2/3 of our public servants would be progressive and they would all work cooperatively together to implement on a grand scale the gazillions of creative practical solutions we already have and show the rest of the world the tremendous good that is possible.
i've been waking up and mentoring around 10 NEW uninformed/misinformed individuals every week.
It is imperative that each and every one of us do the same.
Start with your family, friends, and acquaintances.
Take them under your wings and help them to become well-informed on all the major issues of today.
Moreover, inspire them to devote their time, energy, resources, and talents to the political process, esp the campaigns, to make sure that only the most Loving/most Wise among us become our public servants.
When ready, each one of them will do the same. So on and so forth.
If you can't do 10, do 5. If you can't do 5, do 3. Just don't do nothing.

Outreach and education go much further than removing yourself from a platform. You're armed with how to spot the warning signs of someone trying to take advantage of your personality to sway you, so it's the "persuadables" on platforms that can be hijacked who need to be alerted.

Ask the airport security, "Who has ordered our detention and interrogation?" When the creators of the "Great Hack" should have Lawyers meet them at the airport with authority to intervene in these harassment detentions.

Chris Wylie called out Cambridge Analytica. Brittany only became a "whistleblower" after that fact. Its only natural for her to join the "good guys" now and spill the beans on the bad guys, because she doesn't really have any other option. I don't think we should be calling her a whistleblower.
