- I wanted to do a draft break down of Punter Tory Taylor so I sat down and watched every single Iowa football game and then repeatedly watched the punts to analyze it... I wanted to die but here is my final Conclusion on Punter Tory Taylor.

I cater breakfast for the Hawkeyes and I get to see and chat with Tory Taylor every week. He’s one of the most polite and upbeat players on the team. I also know for a fact that he’s seen your videos and he appreciates the amount of depth you go into about him.
Bro that’s awesome! Punters are absolute gems.
Punters usually have long careers . Hope its 12 years plus for Da Bears and Tory Taylor!
Who's here after the Bears drafted this dude?
Guilty
True Bears fans!
Go bears
It’s me
🙋🏾♂️
Punting prospects gotta be fighting over that Iowa scholarship fr
They’ve already signed another Aussie punter.
TRD BRUH;
As a bear fan who wanted to check out who we just drafted, I really appreciate the work you put in. Punters are people too!
I admire your dedication. That’s a lot of film to watch and a ton of time you put into this. Well done!
Tory Taylor's stats here don't show how many times opponents started inside their 20s. IIRC, that stat is 109 times over the last 3 years when he played the entire seasons. Taylor can kick the ball over 50 yards but he excelled at shorter kicks backing teams up and changing field position for his not very good Iowa team. With the Bears new offense, most of his punts will be of this variety rather than punts from deep inside the offense's territory like he needed to do at Iowa. Caleb tweeted him "You're not going to be punting much". Meaning Bears offense is going to move the ball. Ryan Poles drafted Tory in the 4th over other talented players showing Poles thinks he is a weapon.
Never thought I would actually watch a punter analysis, but since I am a big Bears fan...here I am. Nicely done, Isaac.
rewatched every hawkeye game from last year? Brutal but I applaud the effort.
This was a really cool analysis of Tori. Hawks didn’t give us points but at least they gave you punt data 😂
Just WOW! Way to geek out on this. Appreciate the in depth breakdown 👍🏻
Thanks for all the effort you put into this video. Well done. 🐻⬇️
All I know is the last time the Bears were really good, we had a hell of a special teams unit in Hester/Gould/Maynard. They impacted a ton of games for us, it felt like we started every drive at the 40, and our opponents backed up behind their own 20. So yea, I supported this pick. Special Teams really matters!!!
That’s the only explanation for a team that’s 19th in offensive yards/play, 28th in turnovers, 14th in total yards and 2nd in scoring.
I’m bearing down so hard right now
Kinnick Stadium has the "craziest" wind as well..This is also why so many interceptions occur there!
This is an extremely well done analysis! Thanks for your time and effort!
Absolutely excellent video. Loved the in depth breakdown. All the numbers could use at a minimum flashing on the screen or maybe some graphic just because it was a little bit data overload but I love the super deep dive format
This is amazing, good dedication. Can you analyze Ryan rehkow for byu?
As a hawk fan my whole life (freshman during that undefeated rosebowl run we had) I want a complete reroll on coaching staff
Bear Down!
Bear Down!
Well, a lot of effort and wow, fourth round pick. You pick 'em!
Thanks for the breakdown. As much as I'd like to, devoting time to Iowa games last season was even a stretch for my in-laws from Keota IA. Taylor looks to instantly improve a need for the Bears, and count me amongst those who see this as a good draft pick. Mr. Taylor, if you like Iowa, you'll love Illinois. Its just like Iowa, but with electricity.
And indoor plumbing
This is the Holy Grail of all punter analysis.
Not sure if you ever look at these comments, but I am going to disagree with you on one point. First off, I am biased for the Hawks and Bears, secondly I know next to nothing about punting other than I cheer for punters, and lastly I like football but am not an expert (although I am a pretty good coach in other sports). that being said the reason he was so revered in Iowa is the what you gloss over at the end. He was so good in the gray zone. He was amazing at pooch punting and placing it. An art form that is lost in the NFL. You used to have corner coffin punters, but you don't see those anymore. Tory does that same type of thing with his punting style. If you have a great defense which the Hawkeyes did of course, and what Eberflus hopes to have with the Bears, then this capability is a huge weapon in your team strategy and arsenal. As long as he is average or above average on distance punts, but is deadly in that gray zone, I think TT will be a legendary punter in the NFL. Different than most other punters though.
But what does Corey Taylor think 🤔
Im always a fan of good kicking, and everyone telling me this kid is special
I’ve watched nearly every Iowa Football game since the early 80s.
4th round pick for the bears. Hope it wasnt too high
It was
Bears jumped the Packers.
@@IsaacPunts Nope... Field position is King... Bears football is the best when our kicking phase is well. He'll give us an advantage from day one as a player who affects our season. Nobody else available has that clear of a potential upside. Thank you for the hard work in breaking down my new favorite Punter... Bear Down!...
this (below) is an excerpt from an academic analysis querying "how should we more accurately evaluate the efficacy of punters?
The reference citation is given below:
“Unfortunately, the aforementioned metrics are
hampered by confounding variables. If the line of
scrimmage is near midfield, then often the punter will
reduce the amount of power behind a kick, in order
to avoid a touchback, leading to a reduced gross (and
likely also net) distance, as discussed in Burke [article] (2010).
If a punt originates from deep in the kicking team’s
own end of the field, there are no such concerns about
a touchback, so the punter is free to kick the ball as far
as possible.
Punters on weak teams more often find
themselves with plenty of room to kick the ball deep,
leading to higher gross punting averages and fewer
touchbacks. Lisk (2008) found that punters on teams
with below-average offenses are overrepresented on
Pro Bowl (all-star) teams, perhaps for this reason. On
the other hand, punters on good teams can expect to
have higher inside-20 percentages, because of having
more frequent short-field punt opportunities.”

Tory Taylor got drafted 4th round before Ryan Rehkow did to the bears
oh how i LOVE data!! cant get enough data .. data is amazing!! more data - PLEASE
🐻⬇️🙌🏽 This will get some views now! 😅💫
My goodness. Do you have a life beyond crunching numbers? Great analysis. Tory also had the ability to place the ball back towards the opponents goal line. I wish I could hit my iron shots that well.
What about weather conditions? This is extremely important due to the harsh conditions of soldier field. Also, this kid has kicked at the Iowa stadium, Wisconsin, and upper Midwest locations with similar conditions to soldier field during certain times of the year.
I still can't figure out why "Iowa" football has so much success..at the next level..
It's almost "seamless"!
It’s essentially a program built to produce pro style athletes and seems to instill the work ethic to stay in the league. I mean 4 of the 5 best TEs in the league are from Iowa right now
so what you're saying is ... he's not gonna be drafted as first P?! ^^
Time will tell !
BEAR DOWN BABY
This videos crazy I love it. #kickerslivesmatterto
Ryan Rehkow ended up going undrafted.
And now he’s a Chief 💀 God damnit they’re threepeating
Hold up - Araiza & Rehkow are both signed to the Chiefs as FAs??? So why did the Bears draft Taylor?!? 🤷🏿♂️
this is all fun but I just want to know if it takes him too long to put in relation to other nfl punters
If I thought his operation time was a question, I would have mentioned it
Da Bears.
Who’s here after the bears released this dude 😂
So... what's his passer rating going to be?
Bears drafted him
Okay this is epic
Isaac I have a $200 mic I have touched in a year. When I’m in bama this summer let me get it to you😂😂😂
Great work
Guy looks promising. How will he manage in Chicago's weather though?
Well he played in Iowa so I imagine the weather will be a non factor
@@IsaacPunts There was at least one very cold game in Iowa where he had problems. Also, in December and January (non-college months?) the ball pretty much becomes a brick. Let's fast-track the new stadium!
@@MisterBlaine102 We'll pitch in and get him a bubble goose down jacket and some hot cocoa... He'll be fine...
Kinnick (Iowa) is cold and known to have some super weird wind as a result of who the stadium was built in the 20s. It shouldn’t be that much of an issue
Coming here after the Bears drafted him in the 4th round
Nice methodology.
So what we know from this video and your previous one on the Ray Guy award is that the Steelers are definitely drafting this guy and turning him into the next Pressley Harvin. Which is not good if you're a Steelers fan, it's just very on brand for them.
I unfortunately think that could very much be the case. There’s a chance he’s over drafted heavily
I couldnt imagine doing something worse in this world. Go gophers
Iowa should've won that game, you guys got lucky with a bad call
@@ummmmmmmmmmmmm-z9h zero points in the second half is all i have to say
Bear Down Chicago Bears!!!
Bears got him go bears
Bears got a beast
You what? Why? I mean you do you, but....yeah. who hates Iowa? Not IP apparently.
He is a drop Bear now
So I’m hearing you think he’s slightly overrated? Uh oh
Just slightly
BEAR.
There QBs QBR ratings were terrible the least time I lookee
bear down
Came here just to see the boomers he had
golly
Go hawks
Don’t need to see you. Full screen please.
Trash
Hey bud 23 mins of your face with a small highlight screen is wayyyy too much. You aren't getting a TV gig. Try voiceover full screen highlights. Like a pro video.
