- Tory Taylor’s Performance in Iowa vs South Dakota State is one of the greatest games I had ever seen. less than 200 total yards of offense across both teams, you just can't write it up any better than that! I just wish this could have been scorigomi
The fact that 2 safeties didn't result in the glorious 4-3 score is saddening to me.
My high school had a 4-0 win. That’s still an NFL scorigami and the only college game I could find with that score was in 1904, Georgetown vs Navy.
Happy 3-2 day. War Eagle
Totally. So much wasted scorigami potential.
lookup old dominion vs fau
An Iowa game where they win 8-7 all safeties would be a beautiful dumpster fire.
As a Hawkeye, I started jokingly celebrating every special teams play. Turned into a thing and it was a blast. Touchdown? Nbd. Tory Taylor hits a 60 yard punt? We’re going crazy and taking shots
Was that y'all at the Illinois game with the confetti cannon this year?
Iowa is an enigma in today's game. They're consistently competing for league champs because of non conventional ways. They're good for football
So sad seeing Tory leave, just have defense to celebrate now
I got to witness Tory punt in the Senior Bowl. What a legend.
It genuinely made the season fun as a Hawkeye
Championship caliber defense, championship caliber special teams, an offense that couldn't hit the broad of a barn if they were locked inside one for a whole day. That's Iowa football baby
Lol, iowa has never had a championship caliber defense😂😂
@@Day1JoeMiltonBelieveryou’re really dumb huh?🤦🏻♂️
Didn’t look like a championship caliber defense against Tennessee. 🤣
That was a terrible game and that was really not a championship caliber defense. If you claim it to be good then why did they get shut out 3 times that season with only producing under 80 yards against PSU that entire game 😂
@@NukaCola6962 you’re talking about the offense we were talking abt the defense, everyone knows how absolutely atrocious that offense was with Brian Fereentz it made national headlines.
Iowa really ran up the score with that second safety
“Iowa won 7-3: who scored the touchdown?”
[insert side-eying puppet meme here]
had this exact conversation with a coworker that day. I work nights, so i didn't actually get to watch the game.
"did you see the game?"
"No, what was the score?"
"7-3 Iowa"
"Let me guess, that touchdown was a punt return or off a turnover?"
"no touchdowns"
"no touchdowns?"
"no touchdowns"
@@jordonvh91this is glorious
I was at Tory Taylor's final home game. When he came out for his senior recognition, that was the loudest the stadium got all game. After they won, he got a standing O as he flexed his way to the tunnel one last time. I don't know what the people of Iowa are gonna do without that man.
Fun fact: South Dakota State has not lost a game since this one two years ago, including the 24-team FCS playoffs.
This was painful to write as a Bison fan
Fuck SDSU, sincerely a USD student
Go Jacks!!
Its so refreshing to see another hawkeyes fan on the internet. Someone who can also truly appreciate the special teams and defense
This is nothing new for Kirk Ferentz and his Hawkeyes. Back in 2004, he walked into Happy Valley and beat Penn State 6-4.
They were up 6-2 with a little over 8 minutes left in the 4th, 4th down on their own 1. They took the intentional safety *with 8 minutes left* and still won. The Beautiful Game.
The other possible 6-4 would be scoring a touchdown and having the extra point returned for one point. Not quite as funny but pretty close.
This game deserves a full length documentary told like a disaster documentary. Its so hard to watch the offenses but man that defense though
It needs a "Greatest Game" video...get on it, Tree.
Issac is one of the most underrated football channels, deserves at least 100k
@@IsaacPunts hey can you make a video about the Chiefs signing punter Matt Araiza? Thank you,! love your channel (from Switzerland)
Iowa is very impressive, to have the 4th best defense and 2nd worst offense (points wise) is dope, but also to have a respectable 10-4 record while doing it. Legendary.
Syracuse University did this en route to victory in the first Yankee Bowl. I've heard this called "7 the hard way", a field goal and 2 safeties.
I've heard it called "an Iowa touchdown" 😂
Ah yes! The Gentleman's Touchdown 🎩
As a DIE HARD Hawkeye and Niner fan, I felt the strongest swirl of emotions as the Niners acquired CMC after being in the 4th row at the Rosebowl of Iowa vs Stanford and watching CMC split the secondary for a 75 yard play on the FIRST play of the game.
Watching Bethaerd and Kittle connect on plays gave me the dopamine rushes similar to that of what I imagine ketamine feels like. Now having a Cy QB lead us to the promise land only to have the HC blunder it away in spectacular fashion leaves me with a sense of dread, yet with a complete belief in victory for our future, Purdy IS him.
That being said, I greatly appreciate any Hawkeye content anyone provides, and this is a gem in that category. Lets GO HAWKS and I bleed red and gold.
Taylor is the GOAT no debate.
Subbed
Shanahan blows. But in fairness, 9ers never were gonna be allowed to win. Holding bosa every play like 2019. Rigged nfl
Took my son to this game for his 16th birthday, his first in person Hawkeyes game. There were a lot of SDSU fans in the section we were seated in and they were confused and frustrated as hell. The whole Hawkeye faithful in attendance realized early on that the offense was not going to do anything and we were just screaming out lungs out on each play the defense was out there like our life was on the line if we didn't. My son just referenced this as his favorite all time Hawkeyes game last night. I'm glad he enjoyed it so much. I along with the bulk of the attendees left there thinking "WTF was that?". Everyone had a bewildered look on their faces and were nearly silent as we all filed out the exits. It was bizarre. The punting and punt coverage was absolutely beautiful. Tory Taylor was SO GREAT the past several seasons...Go Hawks!
Iowa has won me so much money these past 2 years. I love them
As an NDSU FCS fan, I made sure to watch this game. It was incredible.
I was raised a dolphins fan, and I'm at iowa for college. I have no idea what to make of this team
having one of your teams put up 70 and the other win a game without scoring a single point on offense must’ve been strange
@@21234u Thank you for not mentioning my team, who was on the receiving end of that 70 massacre.
@@DontActuallyWannaDiebroncos?
@@slipinslider Most definitely not, totally...
Iowa would legit be a national championship contender with an average offense
I was at this game! My brother was the starting DT for SDSU, #99 Caleb Sanders! You know it’s a brutal slugfest when everyone was rooting for both punters 😂
As soon as I saw the title, I was like: “yep. I was at this game.”
My family and I aren’t even fans of Hawkeye football-my mom doesn’t like football, and my dad and I are Buckeyes. We just wanted to see The Wave 😂. We drove from MICHIGAN for this thing.
My favorite part wasn’t even the game-it was the fact that we sat behind a group of SDSU students, one of whom grew up an Iowa fan-so no matter what happened, dude was cheering like crazy 😂.
Jacks fan here! Go Jacks! Even though we lost that game, it’s still fun to hear the Jacks talked about more! That season was incredible for the Jacks
Hi I’m a Jacks fan too!!
As a husker fan there is no team I hate more than the Hawkeyes but no one can deny that Phil Parker and Lavar Woods are the absolute GOATS at there respective positions.
Gotta feel bad for those kids with cancer having to watch them play…
They don’t treat kids for cancer, they give kids cancer by forcing them to watch Iowa Offense, only to cure it by watching Tory punt
My high school team from Kentucky played a game up in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium. They did a tribute video to what they consider the greatest high school game in Indiana State history. It was a 2-0 final score won on a second half safety. What is funny is that the greatest game in Kentucky high school football history was a 59-56 game. That game had a receiver catch for over 300 yards, about 1500 yards of total offense and featured the future QB and running back for the University of Louisville. No turnovers until about 90 seconds left when a deep pass was intercepted at the 1 yard line to seal the win. Everyone talked about how great that 59-56 game was, but the defensive coaches for both schools said that was the worst game they were ever a part of.
What was your high school? ... And who were the QB and running back in that 59-56 game?
@@brianarbenz1329 Trinity High School in Louisville, KY. The game was in 2002 and was Trinity vs Male High School. Brian Brohm was the QB for Trinity. Michael Bush was the QB for Male. Both players went on to play for the University of Louisville. Norb Elbert was the running back for Trinity and Sergio Spencer for Male. Trinity had a 300 yard receiver that game in Tashawn McBroom and both QBs were the leading rushers for the teams. Michael Bush played in the NFL a bit and would drag 8 defenders with him.
@@seanholley7284 Ah yes, I was thinking you were referring to Brian Brohm and Michael Bush.
I started following football as soon as i got to college but knew nothing about it... This was the first football game I ever attended....😮 My friends were all assuring me that this isnt how normal football games are. 2 years later and I'm still waiting for that to not be how a regular game is😂. I was wondering if you were ever going to mention this game given torys notoriety.
Congratulations. You are witness to peak football. It doesn't get any better than this
this isn't how normal football games are, it's how iowa football games are
Jon Bois once made a video about punting and how it is basically cowardice. Iowa made punting their main offensive strategy and it’s glorious.
It’s like they were transported from the 40s and planted in todays game. They probably would’ve dominated that times games
That was one of my favorite games ever. Right up there with the game where Penn State lost 6-4... after missing a 60 yard field goal with mere seconds left that would have given them a 7-6 win.
Isaac, have you watched "The Defense Never Rests", NFL Films' hour-long cut of the 1999 NFC Championship Game? That's the one where the Bucs took a 3-0 lead, the Rams tied it at 3 after one quarter, the Rams led 5-3 at halftime, the Bucs led 6-5 after 3 quarters, and the Rams got a late touchdown to go up 11-6 and held onto the lead when the replay officials badly botched a call, calling a clear catch by Bert Emanuel incomplete (leading to the NFL putting in the Bert Emanuel Rule in the offseason to make certain the replay officials couldn't eff up another call in the same way.) I think you'd really enjoy it.
Ehhhhhhh, OK. At least I hope the NFL recognizes Iowas Punter, who is definitely above board.
Tory Taylor is him🐻⬇️
As a Nebraskan, I despise this team. As a fan of sicko football, I can't help but appreciate the staggering levels of ineptitude a Brian Ferentz coached offense produces. Gonna miss that guy.
Im absolutely stoked chicago picked up taylor
As an alumni and lifelong native diehard Hawkeye - I find this video hilarious and absolutely true!!!! lol
Hopefully, the new OC can get that offense just midpack and then they will be dangerous.
This game was truly something to behold live. Wish I could’ve seen it in person
Man what a masterpiece
No Huddle Hawkeyes have uploaded the full game, less than 1000 views. I've watched it out of morbid curiosity and ended up thoroughly enjoying it. Superb game.
Levar Woods is one of the most underrated special teams coaches in the country
As a guy who's favorite game ever was the Cheifs-Rams shootout, this game was brutal to watch lol
A week after this i was in kinnick and cheered when iowa hit 100 yards....late in the 3rd quarter. Everyone around me cheered along
I’d never expect a D1 College Football teams best offensive weapon to be their punter who doesn’t even play offense but here we are.
For another video that underscores the importance of special teams, here's a Secret Base video about the 2010 San Diego Chargers.th-cam.com/video/UAL5X3TRA2A/w-d-xo.html
Iowa's worst nightmare is there punter getting injured.
I was at this game, 10 rows up on the north 15 yard line and OMG that place was electric, greatest special teams play i've ever seen
I Agree !!! You know your team is in trouble when your best players is the PUNTER!!
In buisness more like!!🗣️💯
@@blueleader392 You must work for Disney, or Bud Light?
@@troyfrei2962 what’s that supposed to mean?
A final score of 7-4 with no touchdown is crazy work 💀
The stat about finishing in the top 25 is amazing. 80% ? Wow we had Bud Foster as DC for some 25 years. Can IOWA afford a Lane Kiffin ? Probably not. I’ve always thought of Iowa as true smash-mouth football.
2 safeties in the same game for a final score of 7 is every scorigami enjoyer's nightmare
Like they said, Tory Taylor was our only scoring threat all year.
I don't think I've personally experienced anything more unworldly than attending this football game ngl
I've always thought Iowa could be a contender with a decent offense.
not even decent, just has to be in the top 100 lol
I knew I liked you for a reason lmaoooo my grandpa is in the Hawkeyes HoF #GoHawks
I’m so glad we’re done with the big10 west. So painful to watch
One of the two Iowa games I’ve taken my wife to. She was severely disappointed.
Bro I went to that game. Game #1 2023. It was a groaner. Still got my "backstage" pass name-on-a-lanyard for being family of a team member :D.
Did SDSU have #10 replace the punter and punt returner?
This is such a great story!
Using the blue snowball as a handmic is certainly a look....
Special teams win games. Let’s go Hawkeyes!
Some call it the most beautiful game ever played.
Crazy how SDSU hasnt lost since this game
Game of the year
noticed the mtg cards in the background hype asf jit
Spencer Petras and Deacon Hill are the two worst Quarterbacks to ever pick up a football
love us or hate us, you watched. GO HAWKS
congrats on the big win
Ok the music is amazing in the beginning, but I can’t think of the piece. Can you tell me what it is?
As a jacks fan our offense was so bad that game i just wish we connected on that one deep shot that would have scored a touchdown
If you ever want to watch football from 95 years ago, just watch Iowa football
1920s style football was much lower scoring from a passing game point of view due to a rounder football that was less pointy and therefore less aerodynamic than a modern football.
With a lower scoring game with much fewer lengthy drives, field position trick plays like punting on 1st down and punting on a return were sometimes very strongly encouraged in the 1920s by coaches in a few games if both a team and that team's coaches felt especially confident that the other team had both a bad offense and an inferior punting game, especially in quarters in which one's own team had a wind advantage.
Occasionally a punt from beyond the line of scrimmage might also be seen in those years in which punting after crossing the line of scrimmage was allowed. In the NFL, Danny White of the Dallas Cowboys was the last player to make such a play before the NFL changed the rules in such a way that a punt on a play from scrimmage had to be made while at least some part of the punter's body was at or behind the line of scrimmage. Danny White was a "triple threat" quarterback who could run and pass and punt, creating all sorts of extra potential problems for a defense to defend against, and made that play on a 4th down, after deciding he was unlikely to have enough room to dash the rest of the way for a 1st down.
There is still a sometimes a place in football for a punt on a return, or for a punt on 1st down, but only if the other team is deemed to have a truly bad offense in modern terms, and when one's own offense is also not good, but still superior to the other team's offense. 1st down is the one time when the other team can't afford to play anyone deep enough to cover a punt, because otherwise the other team only has 10 people to cover a run, and it's then an easy 4 yards when the punter audibles to switch to a running play, most likely eventually leading to a new set of downs.
Alright, since we’re talking about games with two safeties…..anyone ever seen a game with a 4-0 score? It’s an NFL scorigami and the only college game I could find with that score was in 1904, Georgetown vs Navy. The reason I ask is that my high school in South Bumfuck, Illinois also won a game by that score. I’m sure there has to be another high school game out there that ended with a 4-0 score.
4:59 Is that Captain James T. Kirk? He was born in Iowa, you know.
This was the last game SDSU has lost.
They stand at a winning streak of 29 in a row with back to back FCS national championships.
How to describe Iowas offense, usually the tight end is the best player on the field in any given year, and if not, its usually another lineman.
Can believe Iowa was disrespectful when they got the score all the way up to 7
Punting is winning, not sure what my Hawks will do without Tory Taylor this year though
I’m so glad Tory Taylor is a bear
I was at this game. Of all my 4 years at Iowa that was the worst one I saw.
It's not common for one team's defense to outscore the other team's offense without scoring a touchdown. It's even less common for that same defense to outscore its own team's offense without scoring a touchdown. And yet here we are.
Hunter Dustman has actually been one of the best punters this year in the fcs (i guess its not hard when he only punts like twice a game lol)
BIG TEN FOOTBALL BABY
Punting is winning!
This defense is amazing… until it went up against a “down year” Heupel offense with Tennessee 💀. 35-0.
😅
And this South Dakota State team would go on to win back-to-back national championships....... The world of college football, my friends.....
i havent seen this game so i saw that they got a field goal and i was like- no way they get 2 safeties right?????
THE PIG IS OURS
Sdsu hasn't lost since
God i love this tism
I feel like if Iowa were to recruit a actual good QB they could do some big damage
When talking about Iowa I thought that for a while Petras was the name of their mascot with the way it was being talked about. Not as if it was their team's star QB.
Star is a very loose term. Everyone in iowa hates him
“I love low scoring games with great defense”
Oh so you are a fellow sicko 🤝🏻
funny thing about the iowa is that their cb dejean would by far be their best wr
Did the punter actually win mvp of the game?
Closer to rugby at this point with the amount of kicking
This game was an abomination. Thanks for the breakdown
SDSU should move to the Mountain West
That wouldn't cause any confusion
@IsaacPunts sdsu student here plans for the jacks is to see what happens with mountain west and pac 2 thing to see if we are moving up
We must have 2 different definitions of the word perfect lol
South Dakota State has not lost a game since this
Really?
@@IsaacPunts yep. They’re back to back FCS champs and hold the longest active winning streak in D1. If they finish this regular season undefeated it will be the longest win streak in FCS history.
