  • Birmingham City are aggressively targeting promotion from League 1 back to the Championship this transfer window and look like they've broken the third tier transfer record with the signing of Willum Þór Willumsson. Here's my take on Birmingham's attempt to build a League 1 dream team!

Leeds are in the Championship and Birmingham City are in League 1 are there because they were relegated. It looks like Birmingham City are making an immediate promotion push which is a good idea. There are several clubs in League 1 "that don't belong there". Promotion from League 1 is far easier said than done.

We've just signed a 6'3" central defender, Christoph Klarer
Can't help wishing we were buying these players last season! lol
The stats say an awful lot about how tricky it is to bounce straight back to the Championship.
I'm hoping Blues fans will stay patient after all the pre-season buzz and hype.
That said, after years of relying on loans and free transfers, after the rubbish season we just had, it's totally understandable for Bluenoses to be excited.
We have had far to few joys and too many sorrows in recent years.
    KRO!

We will be there or there about, the biggest thing for us will be how long it will take the squad to knit together with all ins and outs and get used to the park the bus tactics or route 1 assault, I think we'll win games early but won't hit peak form till around November. Top 6 without doubt, top 2 we'll need a good start and then maintain decent form.

I've watched Willum play football at Go Ahead for the past two years. He is an excellent player with good ball control and scoring ability. He is extremely technical for his build and he has great stamina.. His only area for improvement for League One football is that he doesn't use his large body enough. He doesn't play physically, and despite his height, I think he is allergic to heading the ball...
I think he will do very well with this team, which primarily will play in the opponent's half.

We already had very rich owners and a lower midtable championship squad, which on paper should never have gone down.
We're probably going to retain the overwhelming majority of our best players possibly all of them.
And now we've signed a bunch of players who are on paper clearly too good for League One, including League One's top scorer.
Our owners are building a squad that should on paper win League One and then be nowhere near a relegation battle when we do go back up.

Great video once again Ben, and really enjoyed your episode on the Keep Right On podcast as well!
I do understand when fans of other clubs tell blues fans that are getting excited to rein in expectations because League One is tough. And I'm really not expecting to win the league undefeated or anything like that, I just want promotion by any means necessary. However, as well discussed, off the pitch has been an enormous improvement over the last 12 months. Despite relegation, Birmingham city centre was heaving after the final game, everyone in good spirits, that's the difference they've made here.
The big question has always been what impact can they have on the playing side, as it was hit or miss at best last season. But I look at the manager, and I think it's an incredibly exciting appointment, having been to a couple pre-season friendlies too I'm really liking the intensity and the patterns of play we're putting together so far. Everyone seems to be behind him and enjoying their football. And all 7 of our signings so far have been brilliant. Two goalkeepers suited to the style of play with Championship or Premier League experience, a guy with over 65 goals in the last 3 league one seasons, two players that performed well in the Eredivise, a versatile left back from Hearts who were the 'best of the rest' in Scotland last year, and a big brute of a centre back who played in the Bundesliga last year, with a few more expected to come in. We've also got some really talented youth players, Jordan James being the eldest but Romelle Donovan will likely be around the squad and I think he's a superstar, amongst a few others like Alfie Chang, Josh Home, Brandon Khela, Menzi Mazwi and Tommy Fogarty who I think could all do a job.
That, alongside the fact we got relegated because of our managerial chaos and a bit of bad luck rather than poor players, combined with seemingly holding onto those players (Bielik for example has signed a new deal and will probably be captain this year)...
I don't care about club size or what clubs have done before, but I don't think league one has seen many sides as good as ours should be. Key word being SHOULD. Time will tell, but there's every reason for us to be optimistic. Other than "football is football" and "league one is tough", I'm really struggling to find reasons why we shouldn't be so optimistic. Hopefully it comes to fruition and we're in for a really enjoyable season, after all the years of crap we've had to endure.

  • @swblade6190
    @swblade6190 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Birmingham are one of the few big clubs that haven't tasted L1 in the last 25 years (one season in the mid 90s iirc) so it bodes well to be a new adventure for them as they look to reset and rebuild after 2011/12ish era. Pretty much every big club has to do theor stint/service in the third tier and so many sides' resurgence can be put down to their foundations being laid in the third tier.
Worth Blues' fans being patient if it doesn't come to fruition quickly. When a big side finally gets it right in the third tier after a prolonged period (Sheff Utd/Ipswich), great things can be just around the corner

If fans of Plymouth Argyle and Ipswich town are being honest about this they will admit that SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY should have Won the league one championship they was 6 points clear with 2 games in hand with 12 games left
Then one of our best players got injured in George Byers then we Blew it bigtime we ended up with 96 points 2 points behind Ipswich town with Plymouth winning the league
We had the title in our hands but we blew it
However I must admit Plymouth & Ipswich Town was both relentless to the end so they both Deserved it in the end Bigtime so Congratulations to them both
Then how we got over the line in them Playoff games with been 4-0 down then Scoring in the last 5 Seconds at Wembley Stadium was amazing
I think Birmingham City will come up this season because its a very poor league one but it can be a very strong league so if they don’t do it this season which I think they will
They will Definitely go up next season
I like Birmingham City all the best from Sheffield Hillsborough

Going by the pre season friendlies we look like we will "bully" some teams in a football sense. Davies's hight press high energy style is evident to see but it does leave us vulnerable at the back on occasion.
The question is whether that style can be successful in League one and if we can adapt if necessary. Many teams will park the bus a St Andrews and it'll be tough going away a playing the smaller clubs mid January!
Have been impressed with what I've seen so far though.
