    As a Wednesday fan I’d love to put Rohl first and I do think it’s possibly the greatest championship survival ever. But at the end of the day no one wants to celebrate avoiding relegation, you want to celebrate promotion which takes much more consistency. I thought Ipswich would challenge for playoffs but what McKenna has done is brilliant. I hope he can give Ipswich a good account of themselves next season!

    Neil Harris should be top 5 easily , doesn't play pretty football and like you said doesn't have to acclimatise to the club but has the most or the most points out of any manager in the Championship since he's arrived , a Millwall legend

  • @adamg8814
    @adamg8814 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +9

    You can definitely make a case for the top 3 managers on this list! Cifuentes for restoring hope in an underwhelming QPR squad and making them play like a top six side, Rohl for pulling off the great escape after what was a terrible first 11 games, abysmal summer transfer window as well as the off the pitch circumstances surrounding the club and as for McKenna, he did the unthinkable by achieving back to back promotions with 96 points in a season which was set at an unusually high standard by the 3 year 1 parachute teams. I don’t know if we will ever see a season like this again and bloody hell, what a great season it was!

    i would like to thank Danny for keeping Wednesday up considering the dark days of management we have seen this season and maybe those who defended and hoped for the return of Darren Moore in all this even when he caused most of it have woken up to what is available out there ,
    But Danny has to prove himself and that he is loyal to the fan base ,something very much lacking in the modern game by managers and too many players ,the manager merry-go-round is a bandwagon of 3 year contract and even their failure is rewarded as they know round the corner is another club willing to hire them on another 3 year contract while they are still being paid for the other contract,the fans at any club are the least to be considered in any of this ,they only pay the bills for it all ,thanks again Danny let you be the one that breaks the mold for Wednesday and bring us to the better place we deserve god knows the fans deserve it

    Incredibly harsh on Carrick. In 40 years of supporting Boro I've never known an injury crisis as bad as the one Carrick has had to cope with most of this season. On top of that he had Morgan Rodgers and Matt Crooks sold from underneath him. He's only been able to play a settled team in the last 10 games of the season and it's no coincidence that Boro have been top of the championship form table during that period.

    Rohl, Cifuentes and McKenna. It cannot be anyone else. Forget the ones in charge of parachute teams. All but one of them missed out on the top two for their budgets you can't call their seasons a success. One more may go up via playoffs, but for the money they had, it's not really enough to make them better than 23 other managers. Eustace deserves some credit for what he achieved while at Birmingham and then keeping Blackburn up despite their tough run-in. Cardiff's manager, and Rosenior at Hull definitely had good seasons too, but no-one comes close to the three I mentioned above.

Not because I’m a Millwall supporter, but from where we were when he took over, to where we finished, scoring the most points of any team in the championship across the last 13 games, I think everyone would agree he should finish higher than 8. Regardless of when he came in. 😅

      I agree with you. .I would swap Harris's position for Maresca's. I know Maresca won the league with a game to spare, however I really don't rate his performance. I think the way they crumbled during the latter part of the season should be taken into account. There was such a lack of backbone to their team. Physically they seemed fit, but mentally they fell apart and that's on the manager.
      So many people are predicting our (Ipswich) relegation next season, but I think we'll survive quite comfortably, and whoever goes up through the play offs will have a good chance.
      However Leicester will struggle to bring in players because of their FFP breach, they'll have a points deduction and they don't have any leaders in their team. They're spineless. We have Morsy, Burns and Luongo who can dig deep and rescue points. Leicester don't.

The testament to that is that you’d struggle to pick one player from Ipswich to replace a player in the 11 of another top 6 club, they perform as a unit are well coached and had a winning mentality, that has to come from the manager. Playing a style of football you need top internationals in the Championship was not going to work on a budget. When the Sweden job came up he just sat on the bench week by week killing time.
    The Eustace reign has been poor with the small matter of we stayed up, but you’ve got to give him a pre-season and a couple of windows, the latter so the club officials can get used to basic IT.

    As always, an excellent and informative vlog.
    The only thing I have a significantly different opinion to you on is Maresca. Of course he got the job done in the end and they won pretty comfortably on paper.
    I think with the quality of players at his disposal Leicester could just steamroller the weaker teams in the division and accumulate the necessary points regardless of Maresca's shortcomings.
    I feel like Leicester's collapse in the latter part of the season really should reflect on Maresca. It really was a psychological collapse within the team and that is on him. It also caused a schism to grow between supporters and the club.
    I know that isn't quantifiable, qnd isn't reflected in the statistics, but my impression is really that Maresca does not seem like a good manager, and if I were a Leicester fan, I wouldn't trust him next year in the Prem.

    Having Robins in 14th is completely justified Ben. I think weve had a very average season. Only Lestuh spent more than us last summer and im afraid he wasted a fair whack of it. Yes we made the FA Cup semi, but we had a lovely draw to get there, and even in our best run of form this year (xmas to March time) we were rarely exciting to watch, certainly nothing like last year with Vik and Gus

    As a Leeds fan I think that you have been generous to Farke. With our squad he should have got the job done. His weakness is not dealing with things when they go wrong on the pitch, alls well when our top players are flying but when they are not he freezes. He also says our players are tired but he did not rotate when he should have done. Totally agree with your number 1, I some times wonder what Mckenna would have done with our team.

    • @darylsnell6799
      @darylsnell6799 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm an Ipswich fan. I agree. Honestly your squad is terrifying.
      I could forgive Farke the slow start due to the mess he inherited. However the collapse through April and May has been unforgivable.
      Yes there was fatigue, but with those players?! And quite honestly, better use of the squad would have reduced the fatigue factor.
      McKenna beat Farke because of the way McKenna utilised the squad and his in-game management. It meant McKenna squeezed absolutely every drop from the squad which Farke wasn't brave enough to do.

  • @benphipps6498
    @benphipps6498 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I'm a Leicester fan, but there's no way that I can make the case for Maresca being higher than 4th. He achieved the aim of going up automatically and won the league with a points tally that has only been bettered on two occasions in the past 10 seasons. However, you could argue that he had one of the strongest squads ever at this level and fell well short of the points record despite being on course to smash it 2/3rds of the way into the season. He's rightfully above Martin and Farke in this list because neither of them achieved the objective of automatic promotion, however, the three that you've listed above him all pulled off miracles.

    I think you've got it spot on Benjammin, in my opinion the manager of the year is not the manager who finishes first with the best squad and best budget. The EFL isn't a level playing field, teams coming down with parachute payments should walk the division. My top 3 are same as yours, the job Mckenna has done is second to none, I know some people will say the Cifuentes should have been second, but in the head to heads Rohl beat Cifuentes home and away, so for my money the job Rohl has done is second only to Mckenna.

    Robins in 14th seems a bit harsh, being a victim of their success in the FA Cup with a threadbare squad. True he spent some money after losing Gyokeres and Hamer but so many signings took time to bed in, it was the start of the season that cost us missing out on the playoffs and a lot of sloppy individual errors along the way. Losing Sheaf and Sakamoto to injury when things were going well was a major blow and letting Mcfadzean go in the winter window was a mistake. Not strengthening the squad in that window probably not his fault though. But I can’t really argue with it given the jobs the guys above him did.

  • @DavidGolden-xo7dd

    Fair assessment Ben and cannot argue with the top 3 or Mckenna being in my opinion way out in first. And I am glad you had the width of a fag paper between Rohl and Cifuentes which is also fair. But I am sick and tired of Sheff Wed fans consistently saying the only manager of the teams who were in SERIOUS trouble who did well was Rohl and he was amazing and no one else comes close. That was just not the facts and other than throwing 2 games away against Sheff Wed it could have been a very different story. And yes waiting for the argument of the head to head record but QPR completely out played Sheff Wed at Hillsbourough and managed to capitulate in injury time and conceding 2 goals and we were both equally bad in the reverse fixture. Lets see where we are with a full season hopefully both teams not fighting relegation. Before the tirade of abuse starts I thought Rohl was amazing.
