My mother raised 11 children, and I raised five children, My mother once gave me the most valuable piece of advice about toys and clothes. She said if you turn your house in to nursery, and your house clothes shop the kids will get bored and will not be hungry to play with toys or develop long term learning, or calm thinking ability.less is more. Plus if you save 10 a week for each kids that would be 1000 a year , by the time boys are 18yrs , you would be saving 18000 for two . In two separate accounts. Save the money so you can spend on them in ten yrs. So you can still buy that expensive trainers when they are big , the boys would remember it and appreciate much. I saved 10 a week for 18yrs gave to my daughter when she went to university to study law for rents now shes a lawyer. Don't fall into the hands of consumerism, two sets of pyjamas and two sets of weekend clothes uniforms and special clothes for occasions.
Save and you will have little financial security. Peace.

As a grandma, one trick my daughter-in-law taught me was that when I buy a toy(s) for the grandkids, I bring them when I visit, but take them when I leave as the toys 'live' at my house. That way her house is not overwhelmed and the toys become special and not mundane. The children also look forward to playing with those special toys when they come to visit me.

I just found this channel about 30 minutes ago. This is the second video and I could listen to her talk all day. Seriously. Partly because of her accent because I'm Canadian and I don't think our accents are very exciting. But I think she seems very genuine and open. It makes me sad to read some of the negative comments.

@@GreatMindsSeekTruthI'm the same. I also can't handle cooking videos or diy videos with music. Usually the music is far louder than is needed and if they just have text on the screen explaining the steps or what ingredients with music to me it seems so impersonal.

Well with kids it’s gonna help her serve them more easily. It’s so hard to make food when you can’t get to what you need easily. But … you can do both. Take one cabinet at a time in the kitchen. When that’s done go work on a section of bedroom! That’s what I do if I can’t make myself tackle a whole room at once.

Remi, because you end your day in your bedroom I think that your bedroom should be first. Your bedroom needs to be where you can end your Day & relax, especially all that you & your partner deal with every day. So your bedroom needs to be your top priority & then deal with your kitchen. I feel that what I have seen you do that you deal with things very well. Everyone deals with things differently & everyone has different life styles, so you have to do what works best for you. Take care & keep doing things in your own way & in your own time of how things needs to be done. Stay safe & healthy.

WOW look at you! Almost to 100k followers. You’re inspiring all of us to just keep plugging away at the decluttering journey. I’m 75 now and I’ve been working on doing just that since my husband passed. I have done a lot already but I’m still working at purging my house. I've just had to clear my mother in law's house after she passed away unexpectedly and to go through all the stuff in a week and try and find new homes for as many things as possible so that they don't end up in a landfill was such an overwhelming and stressful task. It's wonderful that you're thinking ahead for your daughter to not have to go through that.

  • @TheMinimalistTherapist
    @TheMinimalistTherapist ปีที่แล้ว +7

I've decluttered about 80% of the contents of my house over the last 18 months and I dont miss any of it! Here are my tips now I'd now consider myself a minimalist:
I'm trying to go a bit further at the moment. Just got rid of a load more stuff I'd kept "just in case" and dont actually need and I've worked on whats *really* sentimental and why and found I can let some of that go too by keeping photos of the items which remind me of someone or something and letting the actual item go to find a new life with someone else.
    My top tips would be:
    1) Numbers method. Turn the "should I get rid of this" question on its head. Think about how many of something to *keep* first. So, for example, when I was decluttering clothes I would think "How many tee shirts do I need? Even if I only did a wash weekly (and I put a wash more often than that in reality) 7 is plenty". Then I'd choose my *favourite* 7 to keep. The focus being on having my best, most favourite items to keep made getting rid of the rest so much easier and now I feel great about every item in my wardrobe. Same with the kids toys, ask them to choose their favourites.
    2) Container method. Think about how much space you are willing to give a category of things and let the container size be the limit. For example, I got 4 smallish Ikea boxes and gave one to make up, one to skin care, another to medicines and a 4th to "backstock" because that's what fits in my bathroom cabinet. Any mote than that and I've got mess because I cant easily put it away and store it in the cupboard space available. So I had to keep *only* what fitted in the boxes. Again, I picked my favourites first and the rest had to go. This really helped me be realistic about the space I have to store stuff when the priorty is living easily with my "stuff" serving me instead of feeling weighed down by having to look after it!
    3) Stop the in flow method. Every time I went to buy something which wasnt food or a repeat consumable household item, I'd ask myself "What is the lifespan of this product and how will it be disposed of when I no longer want or need it"? This REALLY stopped me buying cheap crap I didn't truly need and focused me on buying fewer things but spending more on quality purchases which can either be recycled (because its made of wood or metal instead of cheap plastic) or will have the longevity to be passed on after I'm done with it. Having to save for something of higher quality often delayed the purchase for long enough for me to realise I didnt really need it in the first place!!
Hope those tips help someone else ❤ Good luck!

As a mother of two sons who also loved Lego, I found it very helpful to get one big sheet that the boys were encouraged to keep the Lego on top of. When they wanted to build , they each grabbed a corner of the sheet and lifted all the sheet which held all the blocks out of the tub.
When they finished playing, they each grabbed corners of the sheet , lifted up the whole thing and put it back into the tub. Easy fast cleanup, and gives the boys a chance to feel good about helping with a tidier house.

Maybe speak to your family about the Christmas and birthday gift situation. Gifts don't have to be possessions, it can be a day out having fun or a special meal together etc.

I vote you do the kitchen next. You use that space daily and it will be adding daily stress for you, whereas the doom cupboard won't be as frequent. But I'd definitely break it down over several sessions to avoid burnout!! I really relate to this channel and it gives me a lot of grace with the nagging voice in my head, we're doing the best we can. Perfection doesn't exist, doing something imperfectly will always be better than avoiding the thing because we wanted it perfect. As someone who is also nonstop ill currently, I hope you have more better days ❤

Wow, what an amazing difference when you'd finished! I vote for your bedroom next, so you can relax when you go to bed. For storage and organisation ideas, don't even look at potential solutions until you have finished decluttering and you know exactly what you want you go where and how much of it there is. Once you know, you can buy storage to fit the spaces properly and you'll know how much capacity the storage will need to have to actually work for you. It's so annoying to buy storage that doesn't fix the problem.

When I was a kid and my mom would de-clutter, she would bring bags of things she didn’t think I needed to me and it would be my job to go through them and make the final decision on keeping them or not.
Eventually that became toxic and she would gaslight me into getting rid of things I really wanted to keep, but I think the original sentiment of letting your kids decide the fate of their property is not only reassuring to them, it builds character.
Apparently it’s a fairly common trauma to recall the pain of a parent getting rid of your toys against your wishes. It’s all-around best to include your kids in the decluttering at some point and allow them to make decisions about their own property.

For sure your bedroom next. My reasoning is because, compared to the kitchen, there is significantly less things which will mean: 1) it won't take as long because there are less things, 2) if you start the kitchen which is bigger with more things, you're more likely to burnout and not get to your bedroom for quite a while, and 3) starting your bedroom means you will sleep better as a result of less stress in the room and be motivated to get the kitchen complete. I hope this helps you! Thank you for your videos, I enjoy you and what you bring to us!!!

      @EarzOnTunz ปีที่แล้ว +1

These are good points but when I get a dilemma like this, I do BOTH. I start in a corner of my room and my kitchen. Like I would start in the bedroom and then when I complete a section and I’m fed up with that I’ll go start a section in the kitchen and work on it for how long I can. I work on a spot that can be deconstructed, cleaned and restored to order when I’m working 2 rooms.

12:21 As I make my bed every Morning(for the past 7 years) I quote a US Navy Admiral…. Start the day with a task completed.
If the rest of my day goes poorly then I know I got at least one thing done that day. When I go to bed at night I feel satisfied with how lovely my bed looks even if it is surrounded in chaos. I would suggest the kitchen first. It looked like there were things inside the cabinets and drawers that weren’t necessarily kitchen items. It would drive me crazy to have to move toys and games to get to my pots, pans, flatware, etc. And, to me, it seems that you would have more space if it was tidy. I’m a lot older than you and it has taken me a long time to accept that I will not put things away that are stored in containers with lids. I use a lot of cubbies and shelving with bins! Have you ever watched Clutterbug? She does a great job of breaking down the storage systems that work for different personalities. For example, I prefer things to be out of sight but in loosely defined categories which is why lid-less bins work for me. I store all of my hair styling products in a shower caddy so that I can pull the whole thing out, use the products I need, then put the caddy back out of sight. That’s also a great way to store children’s art supplies since it so easy to keep tidy. Your son could pull out the bin of supplies, use them, then dump it all back into the bin to carry back to a shelf or cupboard. Also, if your son does most of his drawing at the kitchen table, the art supplies could be stored in the bottom of a cabinet in the kitchen to make clean up easy. I like to watch you because it gives me inspiration and I really like listening to your commentary!

Hello beautiful. I've just come across your videos. I'm currently on my decluttering/ cleaning the house 🏠 journey & fully enjoyed the first video of yours cleaning your lovely hard working Dad's house & have watched 2 per day of yours since hehe.... You're very inspiring & it's motivated me to start & be me in this world as I find you are very relatable, down to earth & charismatic like myself & it's so nice to see that just how messy your place can quickly get after a wonderful clean & feeling not the only one!!!
What a humble video of yours was for the week cleaning challenge & your cute boys trying to help their Mummy a bit ever soo sweet!!!
Thank you for being sooo honest in your voice overs & I encourage you to keep going as you're doing a fantastic job in all fronts 🥰

My vote is for the kitchen since you use that space multiple times a day.
Keep up the great work!! And I appreciate your honesty- saying what is hard to get motivated to do and what you don’t like doing at all. Thanks for being REAL!

I just found this video, as well as you are tidying video, and I absolutely love you and your honesty. I am a mom with some executive function issues as well, so as expected my children have some EF issues as well, and my son is autistic. Seeing that other moms also have to balance getting things done with what works for their family is so refreshing. Thank you so much for sharing! Much love from Oklahoma, USA! ✌🏻

Looking at your cupboards for the brief moment, I feel like your items are ill fitting in there because you are lacking shelves. You need some more shelving to put in things of the correct size. 💜 I enjoy listening to you, your voice is lovely!

I can attest to working in tiny increments. I moved into a new flat a year ago, and executive disfunction just stopped me entirely from finally unpacking and sorting everything. I recently started working on just one box or bag at a time - one a day - and while it only takes about 10-20 minutes, the difference it makes is enormous. Mostly mentally. I see the physical change in my space, and I feel eager to make more of a dent. If I'm lucky, I'll spend more time sorting out things because the little burst of positive energy gets the momentum going.
I'm still not done, but I think the most important thing is that I've shown myself I can absolutely do it, and it doesn't need to all be done in one swoop.
Cheeky edit:: As a grown-up person whose 'home' genre is horror, it is SO cool that you're supporting your son in his interests! I was always made to feel that my interests weren't quite right when I was younger, and always felt a little ashamed of them until I hit my 'screw it' age. There's a lot of really neat horror aimed for younger people out there!

I use cheap clear plastic boxes (eg IKEA, or wherever) in my cupboards. That way I use the space well, can pull them out (like having a draw) and see everything and get to everything easliy. When the containers get full, I can pull them out one at a time and sort and declutter. I label them.. just hand written, cheap white stick labels.. going for function, not Pinterest worthy cupboards... that way there is some organisation, nothing falls out when you open the cupboard door, and nothing can get "stuffed at the back and forgotten."... its a game changer. And I never feel overwhelmed. Eg last week i went through my "asian food" bin when I tried to put new food it which didn't fit. I took out what was oldest and made dinner from those ingredients that day. Then the box, plus new food items fitted back in the cupboard fine.
    Hope this tip helps you.😊

Nice video. Decluttering is healing your mind. Also place books in the cupboard at the head of the bed, it will encourage children to read a book on their own. I would place the Lego boxes under the bed, the children can then easily grab it to play.

Finally! Someone knows what i'm feeling! I decided to be a bit stern with myself. Everyday I put the timer on and get at least one bag of stuff out of the little's room. She has so.much.stuff!!! It doesn't help that she's the third kid and she has inherited toys and books and clothes and tchotkes of every description. Watching you declutter kid stuff makes me feel like I can get back to the battle. Thanks! I have an idea for your overwhelmed series: how to slow down and spend time with your kids when you're overwhelmed at work and don't have a lot of energy. 😅 For sheer honesty and do-ability you have earned a new subscriber!

The more of your videos I watch the more times I say “that’s me!” I love your videos and in fast speed, because I don’t want to do anything. I get overwhelmed by thinking how long it’s going to take me so I don’t do anything. It makes me feel like I can do things fast too. Probably doesn’t make sense but that’s how my mind works. Anyway I feel I want to get started and feel more motivated to do things. We never had kids so I have zero excuse but I am a sentimental keeper too. On the flip side I love to organize closets etc. I love being organized. Weird huh? By the way, I vote for the kitchen. It’s the biggest of the two jobs and once that gets done, the bedroom will be a snap. Please keep making the videos! You inspire me and so many others.
