- In this episode I talk about common signs and symptoms of Rotator Cuff Impingement vs Rotator Cuff Tears. I'll discuss who's at highest risk for each and how they present differently. Make sure you listen to our podcast series for more educational information regarding orthopedics. Enjoy!
Well said learned a lot about the differences between impingement and a tear
Thanks Zach!
Hey Dr! Thank you for this video. I think it’s the most well explained differentiating the two diagnosis. I’m 99% I have an impingement. I’m 37 male and fairly active with my work. Is it actually possible to fix this through physical therapy? I don’t want to start dumping money into that if surgery is the ultimate answer. Thanks again, much appreciated!
That was a great, informative video. I've had a sore shoulder for 6 weeks. I went to the chiropractor first thinking it was my neck. Have visited the physio eight times. Went to the doctor last week. He has booked me in for an x-ray and an ultrasound with a cortisone injection if needed. Hopefully it's just impingement of some type and nothing more. I can sleep fine. It's a little bit sore getting out of bed in the morning and the simple things like grabbing the towel after having a shower or using the bandsaw at my work etc. or even combing my hair. A little bit nervous with the cortisone injection. The last time I had one I had a real freaky reaction to it. If it is a shoulder impingement, is it strange in the last last 5 years on the same arm to have ulner nerve issues and tennis elbow issues? Thanks
Shoulder Jt is so tricky...very helpful, thank you!
You're so welcome Kathy!
thank you, very useful content
I am not sure what I have, but it’s a long achey feeling that seems to last for about 10 seconds if I torque the shoulder. This can happen if I externally rotate shoulder . Also have some sharp quick pain around tricep to shoulder that is very sore as well. What’s strange if i bend arm at elbow forming 90 deg and externally rotate, this is when I feel the radiating pain. If I keep my arm straight it’s much better. Planning to see specialist in a week but curious what you think it is.
Well I'm a year late but I have the exact same problem. What did the specialist say?
@@manishraut7156 they never reply lol 😭😭😭. But I think I have the same thing. Have u done anything to fix it?
Thanks for sharing. What was the outcome? Hope you are well.
@@user-wb2yv7ll9d I had the same thing, My chiropractor was able to resolve part of the pain allowing me to do overhead presses etc. The radiating pain persists though when I do certain movements like torqueing the shoulder etc.
I am 18 and I got shoulder pain from doing 30 handstand push ups every morning. Should be just impingement, right?
If someone in the comments can tell me - does treatment for impingement from overuse differ from PT for people who don't exercise much or ever?
I always see the same workouts prescribed but it surely can't be the same when it's worked out too much and not at all
I treat all of my patients with impingement differently. Most videos show exercises that can't be performed by most people. Just high level athletes
I had a Ct arthrogram. It showed a superior labral tear. The problem is, one surgeon agrees another surgeon said no, i don’t but I have impingement. Don’t know who to believe 🤷♀️
Do PT for 6 months, if there is no progress that is a useful sign
Hi, can you have both (tare and impingement)?
just returned from an MRI. Thanks for the information. My arm aches constantly. My hands ache as well. Sometimes I can't even hold a pan comfortably.
Should make sure there isn't nerve root impingement in your neck also. Shoulder injuries don't usually cause hand pain.
Sir you said if a massive rotator cuff tear is occur so patient will feel less pain or discomfort.how?? Because if patient have massive tear so patient should have more pain or more discomfort
I slipped and fell (onto the car door ) and ortho thinks is bruising, so I am doing PT, the only thing it hurts is when I move out of the sideways sleeping position and the numbing below the elbow!!
Thank you this actually really helped me out
Glad it helped!
Sir from where we download your notes???
If one has a 2/3 infraspinatus tear, won't that also cause impingement pain as well as tear pain.
How long could impingement last I have it for 6 mos. I do have full range of motion since I had it. Four months of weakness and now I got strength but clicking still occurs
Any update this happened to me last week
@@jenpac2117 any update bro it happened to me last week also?
@@TATU_ nice to meet you bois, imma just go on and join the club, I hope it’s not a tear bois
Update. He had his arm amputated
@@Joe-ut7uo lmao I don’t think there’s anyone here as happy as you being here😂
😭 mine is a tear. I can't even lift it. I have to hold it close to me when I get up. The pain is unreal
I’m in the same situation what has helped or did you have surgery?
Thank god i got an impingement
I think I have an impingement too. Do you have any advice for it ?
@@NotoriousNickMMA Try exercises found in here youtube. Pretty easy but it takes time. Try to get better posture and stronger back muscles.
@@poposisa I feel it get better and better each day. I got into mma training and I don’t think my weight lifter body is used to it! I think imma get into yoga as well
@@poposisa yoga to help for flexibility
@@NotoriousNickMMA yes yoga helps.
Where’s the show notes !?
do rotator cuff tear effects arm nerves ?
On the inside portion of your elbow and when you grip?… sounds like a nerve impingement… I believe I have that at the moment
Totally useless as a patient
