  • Fly with me on empty legs picking up passengers or during flight training. I try to explain the things i do during flight for all those either interesting in learning to fly or just plain old aviation geeks.

Probably not a supervisor but a trainee and trainer situation. I was an air traffic controller at Houston Center and when we were "plugged" in with a trainee the trainer's mike would cancel out the trainee's mike.

A very good friend of mine lost his life while piloting a 1990 A36 through rain. Two others died with him. It was at night He was on a filed IFR flight plan from Winner, SD to Anderson, IN. That happened in October of 2004 and is a matter of record on the Internet. An FAA controller had contacted him 9 minutes before he went off radar and was watching when it happened. He tried to contact him but go no answer back. That controller also knew he was flying into weather and said nothing to him about it. It appears that my friend thought he could handle it since it was at night and lightning would be visible. The airplane spun into the ground and exploded. Numerous prescription drugs were in his system but he had passed the medical. I have actually been up in that airplane with him. He was an attorney and did legal work for time in the airplane.

I’m pretty sure that’s the same trainee that kept calling “traffic 12’o Clock 600’” when we were coming back from Wilmington at 14,000. I finally asked her, is he 600’ below me or 600 agl!?! She said “600’ agl” 🤦🏼‍♂️

What was it that gave you comfort in landing at 32 wind from 19? I’m not criticizing just asking. Trying to learn. I’m a nobody.

After a lot of turbulence and rain, and racing the weather, sometimes I’m just happy for the shortest route, even if it’s means a little crosswind. 32 works out well for where the aircraft is based.

What type of AP do you have? Are those Garmin avionics, or Aspen ? If you don't mind me asking?

The autopilot is a KFC150, bendix-king which is factory standard, the GPS(s) are from Garmin, a GTN750 and a GTN650.
