      Since I made this video SAM (Scenery Animation Manager) has come out with a new payware plugin that turns all default airports into SAM autogates. The plugin is called World Jetways. I also created a tutorial on how to install SAM autogates using this new plugin for airports that you may have in your custom scenery folder that don't have autogates. Currently I have decided it's easier and faster to install SAM autogates. th-cam.com/video/g8IEBmXGChs/w-d-xo.html

    Bob... I was especially happy to hear your philosophy at the very beginning of this video - your assumption that I know nothing about WED. That approach to teaching helped me learn more from your video than others. One question: In the segment where you placed the marshaller, your mouse was pointed in the terminal building area in the green cone, but your end result was correct placement. How did that happen?

      Make sure your plane is compatible with autogate. Make sure the autogate and the ramp start are perfectly aligned (little green cross hair on top of ramp start). Make sure you haven't rotated autogate- it needs to be aligned perfectly with ramp start just as shown in the video. Make sure you haven't accidentally put one autogate or the marshaller on top of each other (it's easy to accidentally add a copy on top of the first without realizing it). Watch video again around minute 22 that shows aligning autogate to ramp start.

    • @bobblack4604
      @bobblack4604  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't want to export your airport to the global airport database you want to select "Export Scenery Pack". You are creating a custom airport for yourself not the global airport database. If you want to share your airport with others they will need to download it from you. When you select "Export Scenery Pack" it will create the custom airport on your computer. Don't try to export it to the global airport database.

    what to do if:
    i downloaded a freeware airport, already with all kinds of features except autogate for some reason
    when i open the airport from xp custom scenery and try to export it.. i get looooooads of errors.
    Do i:
    a) fix it
    b) delete the freeware, start all over again from the gateway and just add autogate, while discarding the rest of the objects used in the freeware and finished design ?

    • @bobblack4604
      @bobblack4604  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you originally downloaded and installed airport in custom scenery folder did xplane work correctly without errors? If so it is a simple process to add autogate. 1.Open WED. 2.Open airport in custom scenery folder. It will appear blank. 3. Use the file menu in WED to import .apt file found in "Earth Nav Data" folder in custom airport folder. 4. use the file menu to import .dsf file found in gps coordinate folder(s) (something like +40+000)inside Earth nav data folder. Your airport details should now be visible and you can add autogate using the tutorial. Don't forget to save your work. It saves it to an .xml file so the next time you open the airport you don't need to import anything.

    The marshallers won't guide my plane to parking,? Why is that? Please help.

    • @bobblack4604
      @bobblack4604  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What version of Xplane are you using? I haven't installed autogates in quite some time and when I do- I use SAM's now because I have the SAM plugin that turns all the jetways on default airports in xplane into autogates. However, out of curiosity I'll try intalling the autogate as per this tutorial and see if there are any issues with the uprgraded version of Xplane 11

    • @bobblack4604
      @bobblack4604  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There may be some issues with Autogate not working with Xplane 11.5- I'll do some testing and let you know

    • @bobblack4604
      @bobblack4604  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just checked out the autogates and marshallers with xplane 11.5 and they do work. I didn't try with Vulcan option but definitely work with Open GL. Just make sure your jetways are aligned perfectly with Ramp Starts (x needs to be right on top of ramp start). Make sure you have removed jetways (facades) that were there. Make sure you don't have more than one jetway or marshaller on top of each other. If everything is aligned it will work. Easiest way to check if it is aligned is to start xplane at a gate you completed. If jetway connects to plane then everything is aligned properly- if it is not connected (from a cold start) then you have not aligned something or removed a jetway (facade) that was there previously.

      This tutorial was on how to create autogates for your own personal use. Glass Jetways are not part of xplane's default installation so you can't submit your airport to the global airport database but you can use it for your own private use. Maybe you are unintentionally trying to upload your airport to the global airport database instead of your own custom scenery? When you have finished creating your autogates you need to select "Export Scenery Pack" not "Export to Airport Scenery Gateway".

Did you follow the initial steps when installing world editor and defining where your custom scenery folder was so that World Editor could find it? When you imported your airport, did you first export it at that time (it creates all the folders when your first export it) - before you start working on the airport. Did you save it so that an xml file was created so you can open your airport and work on it at any time. The SAM Library used to have a Marshaller but when I installed World Jetways one of the instructions was to delete the SAM library from custom sceneries so I'll let you know when I experiment a bit. To install Marshallers (if you find one that works with Mr. X Autogate) simply draw in a straight line (click and drag with mouse) away from the ramp gate with the line aiming towards the ramp start gate- when you release the marshaller will be facing correct position. I think you can also rotate them by clicking at the 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock position and dragging with your mouse to rotate.

      It's not. I can install an auto-gate in 1 to 2 minutes depending on the gate position so for an airport like Toronto with more than 100 gates- I did the entire airport in a couple of hours, which is why I don't understand why airport creators don't add auto-gates to all their airports.
