So far I love Asus. Both my laptops (3.5 years ago and the one a couple weeks ago (bought from NCIX)) has come with a case. Also love their warranty - 1 year accidental + a second year manufacture warranty.
@DelusionalLogic Thunderbolt is actually Intel's Lightpeak which is not an Apple only technology. It's simply that they were the first to implement it.
Thanks for the nice unboxing. I might safe up for one of those for my education. Im now use an HP Pavilion DV6. Not bad, but I travel a lot and the intel i7 version of this Zenbook has actually a better processor then my HP. Im excited!
@Dachi1991 Thats kind of the point of ultrabooks. Intel realized the Macbook Air's concept had potential, so it told PC makers it would give out ultra mobile processors if they made such 'ultrabooks'.
Absolutely gorgeous and refined. Asus is a complete winner with this baby. It's about time Windows based notebooks found a chic home. My only complaint is that there's no 17" version, yet; I dislike small screens.
The cable tie is still apples to win, since theirs is actually built in to their power-brick which means it doesn't take up as much space and you won't accidentally lose your "cable tie". And there is a cleaning cloth with every macbook out there.
@CJCA915 some computers look like brushed aluminum but they're not. It's pretty common really. it's not just computers either. There are tons of products that fool you into thinking they are metal.
@sk8kid1199 I'm browsing the Apple store now. The 128gb 11" Air has the option for the 1.8GHz i7, while the 256gb 13" Air has the option for the i7 as well.
@demonsoulzx I disagree with the whole aluminum and glass design thing. Believe it or not its unbelievably durable. My Macbook pro fell off my kitchen counter (don't ask how) and the only damage it took was a minor dent in the corner of the screen, didn't even damage the LCD panel. Im pretty sure that if that happened to a normal laptop, the whole screen would've gotten destroyed. And windows is a lot more versatile, but remember windows is designed to run on a lot more hardware than OSX which
@BlueFoxTV what devices use USB 3.0? I was like 'Yay, my new computer supports USB 3 - I didn't know that even existed!' a couple of months ago and I've yet to see a use for it.
running vga out of the box dosent necessarily mean advantage i think, its an old old outdated cable, but i guess if your running an old projector or something its cool
dear camera man can you please stop pointing the camera at linuses face so much, we all know he is awsum but i came here for the review not his face plus linus can you do a review on the samsung series 9, that thing looks AMAZING !!!! ps u r the best reviewer on youtube :)
@Joppsta360 I just liked your comment. So hard. Thanks for this. I get so frustrated when people come into my office asking if I can build them a gaming laptop. Even if I get more money from their stupid requests, I hate seeing people waste so much money...even if they're not the brightest.
Hey Linus, which would you take of the two if you're using it for school? How is the mousepad of the Zen? I tried an air, and it's awesome. Is the Zen mousepad just as good?
@JetJL this kind of notebooks are not actually intended for extreme graphic demanding software, if ur an attorney or a medical doctor, u'l be in heaven with an 1.3kg i7 pc, no mater if it can't run the witcher 2 with ubersampling.
@nfsdre94 their pricing isn't so that they can afford good customer support, although they do have that. their pricing is so they can make loads and loads of money. i don't know the exact worth of apple, but it is very high. there is an example of the pricing on macs. one of the new macs priced at over 9k and you can get the EXACT same hardware, short of the case and with usb 3 compatability rather than thunderbolt for a bit more than 3k. good support doesn't cost 6k
@aapinator There are lot's of flash drives, hard drives that use usb3. Well there are only few devices that use thunderbolt. Thunderbolt is doomed to the same fate as fire wire.
@Kuparilevy Why would you prefer the Aspire S3? It has a shitty low res screen and a small SDD and poorer specs. What do you mean you PREFER a lower end laptop to one that costs 50% more?
Hey I am planning to purchase a laptop and was originally waiting until Christmas. Question; Should I wait until the majority of laptops become standardized with usb 3.0?
FinalChronicle, I believe its the price difference. Apple typically uses the same parts as a normal pc. However, they cost more to purchase. What's very odd, is the OS itself is, very cheap. 30 bucks. A typical machine cost around three times as much as a pc. May be its the aluminum and the half bitten apple.
@TheFR3SHINATOR Its fine, this whole PC vs Mac subject is so touchy, I think that if both companies joined together and used the best of their ideas in products, then i think We wouldn't need to always argue about which is better.
Poor Apple lol. They just should sell off their stock, no clue how they stay in business these days when they are pretty handily beat in every department now, nearly. Awesome unboxing Linux. I LOVE this laptop!
You should install windows on the macbook and benchmark them against each other. I have heard that macbooks run windows better than most other laptops. Would be intresting to se if that is correct.
@CJCA915 nono, ok here you see: I'm not saying that the Operating System is a personal computer. I know that a Personal Computer is pretty much a computer running all types of OS', whether it's a Macintosh, Windows, or Linux. However, no one says "Hey, get a Windows." but you do see a lot of "Hey, get a PC". I believe this term "PC" nicknamed Microsoft's Windows OS when Apple released all their "Mac vs PC" ads. Emphasis on the word nickname. A guy named Will wants to be called Joe-call him Joe.
I have been a fan of Toshiba ultra-portables for many years but they didn't seem to improve significantly over the years. I think it's time to switch to Asus :-) This thing is a deal, $200 cheaper than MBA, while coming with a case and the adapters. The battery also lasts longer than MBA, according to engadget. Good job Asus!
@nfsdre94 you're basing your assumption that glass/aluminum has better durability through one experiement? have you seen all the drop tests done? it isn't a matter of opinion of what material is more durable for practical use for a laptop. sure aluminium is more malleable than the plastic. but taht's the only thing it is better than plastic for. and yes, osx runs very few, but certain SOFTWARE faster and with fewer problems/hicks. but for the majority of people, windows is better.
@demonsoulzx That I can't argue with, macs are not built for gaming, but I have noticed that even the mac programs that i use that include photoshop and a few other programs that came from windows have never locked up, It does have a lot to do with my macbook being brand new (August 2011), but even though my hard drive is nearly full and i Usually run more than 4 programs at a time, It has never locked up and my Macbook is the 13" base model.
i know its off-topic but could i run every game out there with these specs? •Torre NZXT Phantom Negra/Naranja Edición especial • NOX NX Series 620W • AMD Phenom II 1090T X6 3.2Ghz 125W AM3 Black Edition Box •Ventilador Cooler Master Hyper TX3 CPU Cooler •Placa Base Asrock 970 Extreme4 AM3+ •Disco duro WD Caviar Green 2TB SATA3 64MB MAESTRO •Memoria 8GB 2x4GB Ripjaws X DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 CL9 •Grabadora DVD SATA Negra •Tarjeta Gráfica Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 1GB GDDR5
The keys on my brothers hp pavilion dv5 heat up a bit and are made from somewhat the same as the ones on the zenbook. Now is my question do the keys take of heat after a decent amount of usage?
So far I love Asus. Both my laptops (3.5 years ago and the one a couple weeks ago (bought from NCIX)) has come with a case. Also love their warranty - 1 year accidental + a second year manufacture warranty.
@DelusionalLogic Thunderbolt is actually Intel's Lightpeak which is not an Apple only technology. It's simply that they were the first to implement it.
@Mistersamsam that is the best thing ive ever hered thank you so much
Thanks for the nice unboxing. I might safe up for one of those for my education. Im now use an HP Pavilion DV6. Not bad, but I travel a lot and the intel i7 version of this Zenbook has actually a better processor then my HP.
Im excited!
Linus!
You forgot to mention the Bang & Olufsen speakers on the Zenbook!
You missed, Audio by Bang & Olufsen... a rather significant part.
Wow that Zenbook looks sharp!
@Dachi1991 Thats kind of the point of ultrabooks. Intel realized the Macbook Air's concept had potential, so it told PC makers it would give out ultra mobile processors if they made such 'ultrabooks'.
will wait until some more ultrabooks will be released, but definitly getting one.
Does the Zen book have a backlight keyboard like the air? That's a huge deal for me at least, I would never buy a notebook without backlight keyboard
@CJCA915 some computers look like brushed aluminum but they're not. It's pretty common really.
it's not just computers either. There are tons of products that fool you into thinking they are metal.
7:26 CAMERAMAN! I'VE MISSED YOU!
@aapinator the main thing is external hard drives ir flash drives
it helps ALOT if u use those quite a bit
@sk8kid1199 I'm browsing the Apple store now. The 128gb 11" Air has the option for the 1.8GHz i7, while the 256gb 13" Air has the option for the i7 as well.
I don't think it's a stereo mic on the webcam. That might just be an activity light.
So you could drop the Zenbook into fire break the screen and then dump water onto it to put it out and still be covered by warranty.
Excellent presentation. I look forward to see a comparison with other Windows PC like Sony/ Acer but not Apple.
Unboxings, reviews...AND OTHER COMPUTER VIDEOS. :D
I love your trolling sense of humour!
The Zenbook is just so much nicer. Especially loving the Windows and Intel stickers!
Wait a minute, Linus you said in the beginning that you do unboxings and reviews, I thought you didn't do reviews.
People are so amazed with the computer that they didn't notice that you can see the new cameraman in the display at 7:26
WE SAW THE CAMERA MAN! WE'RE SO EXCITED!!!
@fireshot22 You can probably find a USB 3.0 adapter some where so no, just find something that works for you.
This is so, so, so, so much better than the MacBook Air. And I love the i7 sticker.
This makes me wanna update my old ass 2005 HP laptop. Although my desktop I built this year keeps me nice and warm :D
@JetJL This is an ultrabook, not a gaming laptop.
@BlueFoxTV what devices use USB 3.0? I was like 'Yay, my new computer supports USB 3 - I didn't know that even existed!' a couple of months ago and I've yet to see a use for it.
are we sure its not just the new assistant?
if those notebook was throwed right in front of the ASUS service center employee's face, will the warranty still eligible?
@mindkilla123 that's funny cause Athlon II and Phenom II are based on chips released at same time.
Wow this looks nice has alot cool features
@diablolrm90 no, the macbook air only has an i5 1.7ghz proccessor at max..
running vga out of the box dosent necessarily mean advantage i think, its an old old outdated cable, but i guess if your running an old projector or something its cool
@MyRonical lol... fancy.
Both OS works fine to me. Its just the matter of what you need and how big is the hole in the pocket at the end of the day.
dear camera man
can you please stop pointing the camera at linuses face so much, we all know he is awsum but i came here for the review not his face
plus linus can you do a review on the samsung series 9, that thing looks AMAZING !!!!
ps u r the best reviewer on youtube :)
Atleast you get the adapters included. But i don't need a in the middle laptop like this.
@Joppsta360 I just liked your comment. So hard. Thanks for this. I get so frustrated when people come into my office asking if I can build them a gaming laptop.
Even if I get more money from their stupid requests, I hate seeing people waste so much money...even if they're not the brightest.
@bequinta1 it's the new camera assistant.
Hey Linus, which would you take of the two if you're using it for school?
How is the mousepad of the Zen? I tried an air, and it's awesome. Is the Zen mousepad just as good?
reminds me CheapyD unboxing his PS3 "Very exiting " saying that all the time !
Hooray Mr. Cameraman, your officially getting more comments than the product itself :)
7:25 camera man!
@AznMapler12
you can do all that from the browser or with an external drive
Weird how there's no comments on you being able to see the cameraman in the reflection of the screen...
@whodidthisproduction new cameraman, not THE camera man
@KingSushiz Asus is a sponsor of Ncix, they take the laptop back, repackage it, or they actually give him a Test unit
EPIC NOTEBOOK!
zenbook its good
thank you linus
and we wait for next unboxing
@JetJL this kind of notebooks are not actually intended for extreme graphic demanding software, if ur an attorney or a medical doctor, u'l be in heaven with an 1.3kg i7 pc, no mater if it can't run the witcher 2 with ubersampling.
Very nice and elegant Ultrabook. I love ASUS. I would buy it if I needed one.
Thnx Linus. Cant wait the comparison.
Thunderbolt is doomed to the same fate as fire wire.
really real nice laptop .i7 in a thin machine like that..the real question is..how long b4 he break
Soooo exciting!
Looks nice but I'm waiting for Ivy bridge
Hmm...I wanted to see this for so long from a good tech person! Now I am :D
I wonder if they ever make a American Psycho 3 if thar will be a Product Placement Scene of the ASUS Zenbook being use to cut off sumbody's head ?
Is it me or does linus sounds more Canadian than usual? or is it my new headphones?
@CJCA915 You get a compact design and a great 27¨2560 x 1440 res monitor.
That's a really nice KIRF!
@eassd1 I didn't seen any copy right on the Mac packaging, what are you talking about?
Hurr I'm gonna copyright a box.
@J6Snipe that means that people mistake me for showing off and pointing out obvious facts
is that camera man @ 7:26 !??
@AznMapler12 ever heard of downloading? its pretty neat!
FinalChronicle, I believe its the price difference. Apple typically uses the same parts as a normal pc. However, they cost more to purchase. nice introduction bro :)

Awesome unboxing Linux. I LOVE this laptop!

Zenbook = instant love!
Just a shame that the USB 3 port is on the right hand side where you might use a mouse.
Pretty much copied the Air with the design.. The price should be much better, but are the specs better though?
@CJCA915 nono, ok here you see: I'm not saying that the Operating System is a personal computer. 7:27 hellooooo!!! red t-shirt cameraman!!!!
Do battlefield 3 benchmarks with all kinds of cards!
@minddisturb ahh all we need now is to see the stig :P
im highly impressed
open it and show what is inside and also which part the user can change like ram and storage.
I have been a fan of Toshiba ultra-portables for many years but they didn't seem to improve significantly over the years. I think it's time to switch to Asus :-)
This thing is a deal, $200 cheaper than MBA, while coming with a case and the adapters. The battery also lasts longer than MBA, according to engadget. Good job Asus!
FINALLY WE SEE CAMERA MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@dynetrax, probably rendering, can see it aswell.
Linus, y u no boot system and benchmark?
do u get to keep these laptops u review?
thank you linus for showing how much the zenbook beats a macbook air!
@Seeeeeoooo Asus did make the Macbook Pro's for Apple a few years ago.
@BlackCap784 yes, but for the zen book..... 4GB of ram with a SSD
but i completely agree with you, its great for these situation

@KingSushiz I think it goes on sale.
i know its off-topic but could i run every game out there with these specs?
•Torre NZXT Phantom Negra/Naranja Edición especial
• NOX NX Series 620W
• AMD Phenom II 1090T X6 3.2Ghz 125W AM3 Black Edition Box

•Memoria 8GB 2x4GB Ripjaws X DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 CL9
•Grabadora DVD SATA Negra
•Tarjeta Gráfica Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 1GB GDDR5
looks like my next laptop!
@TheMurkGaming How are they the same?
7:25 Hi Cameraman!
@gregorykingf Most projectors that are in use use VGA for input.
The keys on my brothers hp pavilion dv5 heat up a bit and are made from somewhat the same as the ones on the zenbook. Now is my question do the keys take of heat after a decent amount of usage?
