  • Today's video will show you everything you need to know to travel Amsterdam in 2023. Consider this your ultimate Amsterdam travel guide! I'll be covering the current restrictions (subject to change), where to stay, how to get around, what to do, where to eat, and make sure to stick around to the end for some exclusive local recommendations from my Dutch friends!
    Where to Stay
When picking accommodation in Amsterdam, you should do your best to stay within the city center, more specifically around the canal belt. This will put you within a 30-minute walk of anywhere in the city or an even shorter bike ride if you pick one up during your stay. Unfortunately, prices of hostels/hotels/Airbnb's in this area usually are costly; thankfully, due to the current situation, you should be able to find private accommodation for under $100 a night.
    How to get around
The best way to get around is with a bike; you could also use public transit/walk. Alternatively, there are even some pay-per-minute rental scooters around that use the apps Felyx/Chk. Unless you plan on trekking into the Dutch countryside, I would avoid renting a car at all costs. Parking in the city is nearly impossible, and driving in-between all the bikes is a massive headache. Uber also works excellent, so if you have a lot of luggage, that's an easy option.
    Dutch food
There are a few local specialties such as Stroopwaffels, a delicious sweet caramel-covered waffle, bittenballen, a dutch fried food filled with meat, Pancakes, and Cheese! You'll also have to go to a Febo after a drunk night out. This late-night fast food restaurant is exclusive to the Netherlands; it features a retro vending machine contactless style serving experience.
    What to do
If you're a museum-goer, options range from the Anne Frank house, which is the historical house Ann Frank hid throughout the Nazi occupation of Holland. I would recommend going here; keep in mind it's not a happy-go-lucky place and should be attended with a clear open mind.
The Van Gogh museum is also located right outside the city, and if you're in that part of town, make sure to go to the Rijks Museum, located right around the corner.
After you check out some Museums, make your way around the corner to Vondel park, an infamous beautiful park perfect for walking or cycling around on a sunny day!
If you're a beer lover, you're going to want to check out the Heineken Experience, located right outside the canal belt; it's a perfect spot to learn how Heineken is made and learn a little bit of history at the same time!
Since the city is so walkable, you'll want to find a free walking tour! Although there are fewer tours due to increased restrictions and decreased tourism, That's precisely why you want to go now in 2021! With minimal tourists in the streets, it is a perfect time to easily walk around the city and learn about the beautiful architecture. Make sure to walk check out the infamous Dam Square located right in the city center.
Once the night rolls around, you're going to want to enjoy a canal cruise with some glasses of wine while you watch the sunset! This is one of the most scenic picturesque cruises you'll probably ever take. From the beautiful European architecture surrounding the canals, the cobblestone streets, or how the golden sunlight reflects off the buildings, you will not be disappointed! Although you could join a large group tour for around $20-$30/person if you want to step up your game, rent a private boat that can be found easily under $100! That way, you can enjoy your own personal experience; this would also be the perfect Segway into a fantastic date night!
After the Canal cruise, you may want to go to a few bars or coffee shops (they don't have coffee). I'd recommend going bar hopping around the city center. There are tons of bars/cafes to explore you definitely won't run out of things to do!
    What to avoid
Now let's talk about what you should avoid when in Amsterdam. First of all, do not walk in the bike lanes, the whole city was constructed with bikes in mind, and there are beautiful sidewalks to walk on, but if you walk in the bike paths, you will get hit by a bike.
Don't get a bike if you have no experience; you don't need to be an expert at riding bikes by any means. Although you should have a basic understanding of how to ride and control your bike within half of the bike lane (people pass you)
Also, make sure to be very mindful that real people live in Amsterdam too. It is not an "adult Disneyland," as some tourists refer to it. The locals do not appreciate when tourists are peeing/throwing up outside their doorsteps. So be mindful and don't go crazy, because people live here too.

Awesome tips Kyle! My favorite thing to do in Amsterdam was the dinner river cruise. They fixed our food as we made our way through the canals. It was a fun experience and the food was delicious!

The canal cruises are the way to go, the city is so beautiful especially during golden hour! A dinner cruise sounds like a fun experience, did they provide any wine to go with dinner? 🍷

Take the train from Schipol to Centraal. Only a few euros vs almost 100 for a taxi. Will save you some money. No brainer there but some people don't know

Yes David great tip; those direct trains are perfect for getting to the city from Schipol!

It is usually cheaper and faster to take the train to station Amsterdam Zuid, and from there take metro 52 which goes through the center
