A brief story here: Maybe 2 or 3 years ago I signed for a tourney on Voobly (I was at that time a 14++ player on voobly) and I faced Riverplation (NachoAoE) in what it was my last game in that tournament. He was a solid 2K player in voobly and he went for FC and full scorpions disrespect and monks. You get what you fucking deserve *read with Joker voice LOL

I was surprised pikachu to see it was viper. Him and MBL though, they are a gruesome team.
Even just seeing though how clumsy those scorpions are and somehow viper is dodging them about. There is just the thing that even if Viper is somehow not the best in the meta at one time, because he has always been so experimental he is the best in almost every scenario.
It reminds me of him saying "I hate water maps" and then someone asking "why did you pick a water map for X competition?" and he is like, "I hate them but i'm still the strongest at them" xD

@@RoundBaguette I think what he meant is that countries like Brazil and Haiti are technically included in Latin America, but their language is not Spanish, so they must be excluded and therefore you should use a different term, it's not a comment about ethnicities.
With Scorpions being my favorite unit in AoE2 this video/match was a thing of beauty in my eyes.

I'm from Argentina and I can only take my hat off at MBL and Viper skill show, it was really entertaining. If they just went full tryhard mode it would've been a quick and boring game.

I'm Mexican but I've played with many Argentinians and I think we all players that like playing for fun are like this, so if you are clearly losing but it's still fun we keep playing.
I watched this live, it was meant more to be cheese due to the quality of their opponents and it was glorious
This reminds me of that one TCgame where Viper went full YOLO with the bombard cannons and was flattening everyone until someone snuck all the way across the map and sniped his TC with petards. The “this isn’t supposed to happen!!” game. Except Viper didn’t lose this.

You say you have never seen it. Back when it was only AOE1 massed single units was the norm. So with Greeks or Minoan you would mass the scorps and win every time.
Also celt team bonus is 20%faster seife workshops. Plus Celts fire 20% faster so they are better.
Gun powder seige is the only answer.

I think the opportunity for raiding Viper's and MBL's economies was there, even after the Scorpion train started to get rolling. I'm surprised you didn't mention it, or that a top 50 player didn't think to do it. Siege is slow AF, so they would take a long time rolling all the way home to defend.

Nothing can stop scorpions when they reach critical mass, but it's expensive strategy so the best is to raid the eco, and scorpions are too slow to come back defend.
Celts/chinese + khmer seems to be great combo, gonna try :)

Build castles to defend your base and do hit and runs on their bases would be my idea of a counter. Scorpions can't catch knights and get murdered by towers and castles.

Probably because rams aren't the "standard" counter to scorpions, but these aren't standard conditions. I think you're right; rams would tank the fire, kill a scorpion in one or two hits (they have a huge attack bonus against other siege), and be fast enough to catch them if garrisoned.

I guess the onagers need to mass to be effective, and they just fire and move too slow against a sea of scorpians.
I would love to see a see of scropians vs. a sea of onagers.
Tho if you're up agaisnt fully upgraded celt scorps and you don't have SO you are fucked. At the end you could see twigg onagers don't even 1 shot scorps anymore, so they're barely a counter at that point.
