I had viewed so many videos for the past week and failed each and every time I cut a piece of crown moulding. Then I came upon your video and after viewing it numerous times and doing the practical app afterwards it worked! I was so elated I almost shed a tear. I was ready to hire a carpenter to do this for me. Thanks!
Me too , so frustrating , Wes has made it at least possible , by using the jig . For me the main point is at 3.54 , you always cut you CM upside down .
Omg. How to cut crown molding for dummies.Wes I want to thank you for this. Only video that explains in full detail. Crown molding isn’t cheap and here I thought I knew how to cut it. Boy was I wrong. I scraped a lot of crown molding and a lot of money later and I came across your video jus today. Thank you again
Wes is great! I like that he makes total sense and doesn't over talk. He gets right to the point with great tips! Thank you Wes! I can't wait to watch more.
Wes, I can't find the words to express my gratitude for this video. When you cut the jig in half to put together the outside corner, I nearly lost it; how ingenious was that. Thank you very much for taking the time to share your skills and knowledge; very much appreciated.
My goodness! I can’t express how informative this has been! Wes, you have simplified this process beyond simple. I can’t thank you enough. I’m a little late to the finer wood finishing game. And after watching your video. I not only need to breakdown and purchase a better mitre saw, but I need to prepare better. I would sign up for any classes you have to offer. That’s how impressed I am with your practical application to woodworking. Efficient as well. I can go on, but I’m sure you probably won’t be seeing this. Thank you again for sharing this.
Thank you wes! I am going to use videos like yours to go into another dimension of work.. I am a retired School administrator but the Lord has gifted my hands to create.. I am going to start with projects with my own doing my own crown moulding.. thanks for sharing and wish me success
I bought this mitre saw in June 2014, and I remodeled my basement with it. It it sturdy and it works great th-cam.com/users/postUgkxKL3MYO42eA2JbKxs7_Q0tmRGZI4Ow4Ar . There's not a lot of extra play in the adjustments and it is definitely well built. It is lighter than higher-end sliding double bevel models, so I can move it myself, which is nice. When I had to cut 2x10 lumber, I had to flip the boards over and cut twice; but since most of my cutting was on smaller dimension lumber, the weight reduction and significantly lower price seemed to be a better trade off for the boards I did have to flip. Late in the project, I was able to borrow a DW718, and the sliding feature does make fast work of 2x10s, but it is a tank, and I stand by my choice of the DW715. I also added a laser guide (one of the arbor replacement style sold on Amazon), which is nice to have, but definitely not needed.
I can not believe that you don’t have millions of subscribers. Your teaching is so clear, clean, and easy to follow. Thank you for all the details and well explained video 👍🏼👍🏼
I have a whole room of crown molding to put up. I could have spent lots of time and cutting/wasting material trying to figure it out but this short video was what I needed. Thanks!
Wes, I have to tell you, watching your video explanations is a lot like eating Lays potato chips...once is not enough! After watching this on several different occasions over the past few weeks, I have picked up more insightful tips, shortcuts, and ideas. Your mannerism of presenting your insights is humbling and comes across as someone who cares and wants to make a difference in the the lives of others. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
Wes, Thank you. Viewed countless videos claiming an easy way to do crown moulding. Sure if you are already experienced it might work for you. I'm not experienced. His method made every aspect understandable. With a little effort making his jig. Job went effortless. Thanks again.
You sir are a master finish carpenter and I thank you for sharing your knowledge. You are also an excellent teacher and your production values are excellent. Thank you.
All I can say is FABULOUS. I have fancied myself a pretty good DIYer but have struggled with compound miter cuts and in particular crown moulding. Resorting usually to caulking and putty to 'clean up' the imperfect cuts I make. Thank you for the explanation of a repeatable, simple way to cut crown. Love your easy going, logical explanations.
I’ve been doing carpentry for about 23 years, on and off, and I still struggle with crown. I’m glad I found this video. I’m making this jig right when I get back to the shop.
Great idea! Using some oak crown to construct a fireplace mantel and needed some outside corners. Made this jig in about 20 minutes, and have perfect corners. Thanks for the taking the time to share Wes!
I was contemplating building the very jig you showed us. Now I know it works. I would build a separate set of inside and outside assembly jigs to make the corner pieces. I had not thought of preassembling them which sounds way better than doing it on the job.
Thank you so much for sharing this interesting trick on crown molding! I can honestly say that today I learned something new that will stay with me forever and hopefully I will someday share it with someone else that will need help with this type of project! Thank you 🙏
Thanks for sharing your creative jig for crown molding. I have watched so many videos on how to cut crown molding and this is by far the best tutorial video on this topic. I will definitely use this setup for my kitchen cabinet crown molding. Awesome teacher, and thanks for sharing Wes!!
Excellent! I''m working on a crown molding project now and watched several other crown molding videos. None of them talked about a "nailing jig". I've been trying to hold the pieces in position by hand while popping nails through and missing the mark. Couldn't get them lined up. This video is best!
One of the best informative videos I've ever seen. I'm about to build cabinets and I never thought of this type of jig for my molding. This video has saved me time and a headache.
What do you mean by "thank you for watching" ... man thank you for showing me!!!. Just about to buy a 40.00 jig. the only reason I did not buy it yet was had to fig how to use it....Thank you again
Great informative video, thanks a bunch. I was going to purchase the crown stops for my saw but only have one small project so will use your jig method. Really like the idea of gluing things together then installing the whole piece.
Thank you very much...I am happy you enjoyed the video. We love to get suggestions as to what viewers like to see. Let us know if there is a particular build you are looking for.
Sir, I am about to do a coffered ceiling with Red Oak . Thanks to this video you have saved me hours of time and I am sure my project will look much better because of it. Thank you so much. If you ever come to Montreal Canada I owe you a free meal...
AND you just got yet ANOTHER SUB & a LIKE! WHY? Because you have the strong ability to THINK and SHARE with US. Really LOVE what you showed in this one & THANKS! Sonny (CT)
This is awesome! I'm about to finish up a tongue and groove ceiling and the crown moulding is making me nervous. I've never done any moulding and the ceiling turned out so great, I'd hate to screw up at the end! This jig seems like a perfect way to get my inside miters perfect. Thank you!
Zac...I am so very glad you found my video helpful. The jig has been a life saver for me so I hope it helps you as well. Thank you for your support. Wes
very helpful . sometime installing crowns moldings in houses the walls aren’t square . this make using a jig not helpful. however on new construction this is very helpful.
Nice work, Wes. I did crown in my apprenticeship class so I somehow thought I was an expert. Then I volunteered to throw up some crown in the bathroom of my in-law's house the day before a big family get together. How hard can it be, right? I failed to see that the bathroom itself had a lot more than four corners before I started. I ran to Home Depot, got some crown, and one of those plastic yellow miter boxes. After battling with it all night and using about a five gallon bucket of puddy, it was looking nice and the bathroom was back together for the party... but, holy cow, I was sweating it there for a while. Your video would have seriously helped me out at the time. Too bad that was just a little before all this great DIY info was available on TH-cam.
Thank you so much! You are a very good teacher! Do you happen to have a video on how to do crown molding on cathedral ceilings. I'm very inexperienced at wood working, but I love it. I have some crown molding before but never on a cathedral ceiling and am worried about the corrners. If you do have a video on this could you share the link, if not- could you make one😁
Haven't done crown moundings in a while needed a reminder and I'm going to use your jig. Great idea thank you I got little scared when you had your fingers in front of the nail gun, be careful
Thanks! I had a small job in my garage after I installed cabinets. The project included 4 outside and 3 inside 90d corners. Using the method, my corners came out snug and clean. I botched the part of turning the jig into a 90d nailing aid. Had to watch the video again to see what I did wrong. I made two: 1 - for the saw and 1- for the corner nailing attempt. I had to use my table saw to rip the back fence (against the saw) down a few more inches for clearance of the radial arm glide. 5 stars!
I had viewed so many videos for the past week and failed each and every time I cut a piece of crown moulding. Then I came upon your video and after viewing it numerous times and doing the practical app afterwards it worked! I was so elated I almost shed a tear. Very nice tip; thank you.
I would suggest the use of a pin nailer so the nails are almost invisible.👍
Good tip .... thanks for watching, Wes
Wow thank you!
Simply wow. Do you have a video on measuring for crown moulding? I’m installing on bedroom walls but would assume the concept would be similar
I think I've got it now
Thanks
This a great and easy jig for DIY, I will for sure use it for the rest of my projects. Thank you.
Momodou...Thank you for watching and I am glad you have found it useful. Its always nice to be a source of good information.
