    Thanks for posting this. I put off installing the mag for 2 years after getting frustrated.. I came across your video and got to it. Perfect instructions. She's running nicely now. My 1942 is back in action.

      @@JPN76 The source of confusion was the CEN and the FIRE marking. I think I was trying to time it to the wrong mark.. Your video was exactly what I needed.

    Thank you for your very informative videos! I wish I would have seen this one a couple months ago when I was firing up my IB after a 16 year rest!

    Compliments on the production quality. Great lighting and focus. I inherited a1948 Allis Chalmers C that had been 'converted' to a coil ignition by modifying the mag. Difficult to start, kicked back hand cranking. Put a quality rebuilt Fairbanks Morse mag on it and discovered I cannot tilt the mag over far enough to time it properly. The conclusion can only be the mag drive gear teeth are not aligned properly on the machined marks under the front engine cover! I better not find paperwork from the engine rebuilder. Your video clinches it. It is not possible to mount the flywheel incorrectly to change the location of the timing marks, Allis Chalmers made sure of that.

      Thanks for the feedback. I agree with you about the mag timing. Does sound like the governor gear is not timed correctly.

    Very well done. I learned something. I never knew you could wind the magneto backwards.

    Very good video! Very well explain. Is it possible to use a timing light with a crank start. The last person who worked on our tractor broke his wrist because the crank kicking back. I liked the idea of you using a modified ratchet wrench. Why I didn’t I think of that?

    • @JPN76
      @JPN76  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah you can use a timing light. Younwont see the TDC mark, but the Fire mark instead. If timed too early it will kick back on you for sure.

    I noticed, you don'''t have a 'boot' on your plug wires. I have seen number 4, have the spark jump to the oil filter making the engine miss. Probably more likely to happen if you plug is slightly fouled, but it is something to keep in mind if a random miss does show up.

    • @JPN76
      @JPN76  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It showed up in my video with my dad driving the tractor. I don't remeber it being that close back then. Maybe oil filter was a tad shorter or something. Or my memory is a tad shorter.......

      I think the old original filters with the rolled seams and flat tops, were a bit shorter than the currently available filters.

      Another way to do it is ignore the marks turn slow until you feel compression pressure on the cylinder #1. Then slowly turn until the notch/slot on the governor shaft that the Mag fits Innis horizontal. Set the Mag to #1 and bolt it down. This should work. I plan on another vidnof this at some point.
