- After upgrading to ATT fiber, I realized that Sony PlayStation 5 does not correctly show the upload speed. I'll prove it under 5 minutes.
I am guessing that many, myself included, are concerned their upload speed is not great. A low number may indicate to many that they cannot stream to TH-cam or Twitch, or that their online performance is hindered by inaccurate readings. This video is to show you that no, this indication is not correct. I'll even show you how to test it to see what your real upload speed should be.

Thank you for making a straight to the point video and also showing us how to get to the browser. My upload speed was around 18 Mbps as it should be but then has all of a sudden dropped to 2.2 which is affecting gameplay. We're in the 21st century and meant to be gaming on the next gen systems with up to date technology. But you see this far too often with big companies be it apple or sony where they're charging us high prices all the while giving us limited tech! Even the cpu and gpu in the ps5 sucks for the era we're living in. They do this for one reason only and that's to make money! But what do u expect when ppl follow like sheeps without making it heard, so props for making such a video. Btw apple released the original iphone which was way behind other phones that were out in the market years before. I'm sure the original phone didn't even have a calculator lmao and facetime... wow what a revolution when video calling was out over a decade before lmao the sheeple! Apple do have the smoothest of touch screen though since day one. I know this wasn't a video about other brands but in reality this issue we're having falls under the wider umbrella of these companies scams!
My isp just left speedtest on their devices as well as mine optional#s. PS5 is forcing me Back to xBox. 2.2 upload speeds when everything else is getting 33-44 upload speed

Someone in the comments suggested it happens during the holiday season to cope with the bandwith usage. Might be what's causing the drop in speeds?

Didnt the video we all just watch and are commenting on say that the low upload readings are "inaccurate" and not a true representation of what we are actually getting? I can run a speed test on my phone via wifi and can see that there should be the 300 up and 300 down that I am paying for but the ps5 shows (on their test screen) that I am only getting 17.2

Mine fluctuates sooo much. As soon as I reboot I get my lil lower normal amount 40Mb then wait a couple min and I’m back to 10 at best sometimes 5 3 the n under a Kb, it’s infuriating

UK here 🇬🇧 I've noticed this issue recently. I usually get my full throughput speed D/L & U/L via the PlayStation network test. However, in the last week or so I've noticed my upload has dropped by a third on the test, and is now continuously not giving me an accurate indication of my actual upload speed.
I have conducted speed tests via my ISP, browser speed tests, and other devices: XBSX, tablets PC, etc. which all give me readings in line with what I pay for. The PlayStation network test is the exception.
You have answered the one question I've been trying to figure out this whole time! Its a siny UI developer issue and not my fiber...

You have to change the PS5s MTU to get the most data thru. I think it's defaulted at 5-600. Need to up it to the suggested 1472. This is the max packet usage. Don't set it higher because it will be unusable when gaming (tons of packet loss). If on PC, look up how to find your optimal MTU for your setup. As all consoles are basically the same system, this number should be universal. If you experience bad latency on console, dive into your model and find the best MTU for your console. This also needs to be done in your modem/router. You can set your MTU to max on the PS5, but if your router/modem setup is capped below that it won't help. Get on your modems page, find the max MTU (TH-cam guides are a plenty), then set your console to ITS max MTU. Hope this helped.

@majedabdulaziz2231 try enabling your router's dns and search the fastest ones in your region by running ping tests thru it. Also be sure UPNP is enabled/ checked. It's usually just a check box but opens up more ports for better connections.

I opened port DMZ upnp also fullconenat 😂 still nothing. I found also other issue when ur in med of the game like call of duty try do test ur speed drop more than half of download 😂

Thank you so much, that hidden browser was a life saver and all my stress trying to figure this out is now gone. Upload and download speed on the browser is 921/915. On the Sony test, 825/30. Its crazy.

FINALLY I've found someone going through the same exact issue directly connected. I have 1gb as well . Ilso can't upload any videos for some reason. If I capture gameplay and try to share it with someone its always an error msg saying can't upload

Thank you bro, i had exactly the same problem, I've tested it with several routers, tested on different internet providers, called to internet provider support. And now thanks to your video I've figured out it is a problem with sony software....
YES THANK YOU!! The wifi getting stronger down and up speeds compared to my CAT5 Ethernet cable was driving me crazy! I was trying multiple cables and yet the LAN kept showing from 4.2 MB to 8.1 MB. And that's with the DNS changed to stronger lines. Thank you for explaining this because i was about to give a lecture to my AT&T company!😅

That's not true in my case.. My up and down is cap at 300! I do feel this issue at certain times, a lil more of it has been happening recently, but I have seen upload as high as 80 mbps

Been using ps5 for the past 6 months and didnt have an issue with network. Had great up and down speed. Until 2 weeks ago i upgraded my network from my provider and my game started lagging (which i have never experienced before) and shocked to find a 2 digit up speed. I clearly recall a 3 digit up speed (should be more than 200) before the upgrade. The provider tech engineer came today and couldn't justify my problem as speed test on PC showed 900 up and down. Now im stuck. Its frustrating
& for the fix they said get a new router🤬🤬, like what it doesn’t make sense cause I live in the Cayman Islands & the router they talking about we don’t have here so… the problem is on sony end

Called PlayStation today and their tech support insist it’s the ISP fault and they charge 299$ for us to send it and take a look at it. Which is ridiculous. It cost almost as much as buying a new one. Really upset about it. First we tried so hard to secure one during the pandemic then we had to endure the defective machine.

This is 100% accurate and extremely frustrating I can't play MLB The Show competitively because of this. Whenever upload speeds are in the single digits my timing is off no matter what adjustments I make. I also have extremely fast internet yet this garbage ( next Gen system) states otherwise. People will argue this however The Show gameplay runs on upload speeds. Bottom line is that Sony needs to come up with some kind of system update to correct this.

yeah, don't get it. Had same results after following the vid. Pay for 500/500, was displaying 500/9, now shows 500/500 on ookla test. Thanks for that. Which brings up another question, Why does PS5 NOT have a specific console browser that can be surfed? Why do we have to find a side door?

Also having this issue. What makes this even worse is that when you use PS Remote Play, the connection is determined by your PS upload speed from my understanding. So even though I have 1GB internet up and down I can't remote play at 1080p because it autos to 720p from my PS5 upload speed.

I’m having the exact same issue, PS showed really low upload(6.5mbps) but I did secret browser thing you did and it’s 20mbps
It’s only a display glitch because when I monitored my upload bandwidth on the router it was at 500mbps but the ps5 was displaying 7

ATT and Sony have beef, the upload issue actually causes problems in online games sometimes it just losses connection. I just got the fiber and my XBOX runs perfect but the PS5 upload speed is like 25mbps and my download are 950+. I just switched from Xfinity who wasn’t giving me the same speed but at least the upload was consistent. For fiber to have a dynamic download and upload doesn’t even make sense though, it’s supposed to be static. I read some article that the CEOs of Sony and ATT had issues so I guess they compromise each other with this connection game.
I'm sure its because the playstation network servers are limited and capped for certain ISP's and area's of the world.
I will point out that the test is likely testing the connection to a Sony server.
AKA it would not matter if you have higher speed connecting to a external server. And the kicker is that all the videos and voice chats you connect to likely have to go through those servers.
Will it affect the gameplay, you think? I play PUBG and eFootball, or do the responsible PSN servers stay out of that?
Bro I have been wondering for the last couple weeks why my upload was so slow. I also have 1 gig from AT&t and my upload kept coming up around 50. I tried this and it was like 800 to 900 lol I have been so frustrated over this. Thank you!

This issue happens to me put when i play on my brother network was working so I guess the problem is from the network because I raise my download and up load and still the sam problem
Glad I found this as I was researching but let's also consider that this tester might be working correctly and it's actually the PlayStation servers that are the bottle necks. I'm guessing that is the case here. Wish Sony would make that clear so we all not confused.

Hi, same issue here. There are times when my upload speeds drops down to 100kb while upload are around 500 mb
800 up 3mb down here?? Speed test on secret browser on ps5 shows 800 down and 110mb down so not a network issue at my end. Has only happened recently. Micro stuttering and rubber banding in game is driving me crazy.
Sony is clearly doing it on purpose. We all have the same problem and it’s a terrible problem to have. How are they going to release a remote play device in the ps portal for a premium price but then cap the god awful upload speeds

Hey I want to thank you so much for giving awareness to this issue everything I’ve searched to vids have all been use these dns settings it’s bs it does nothing I generally get around the same download when I’m doing a speed test on Sonys built in network speed test yet my download is only 2-4mbps!! When I should be getting 16-18mbps my ps4 never had this issue and I’m glad I am not the only one with this issue I thought my ps5 was faulty and I didn’t wanna send it back as they are very hard to get and I paied quite a bit for it when I do a test using the ps we’d browser use shows normal speeds that I get on all my other devices are you still having the same issue ??

I've had the issue since last week. The best I could find was altering the bandwith to 5ghz (I was only getting around 100-700kbps until then) but I still have only had a max of 6.2 upload speed, though it's mostly between 3-5mbps though my download's fine. I was wondering if it was down to school holidays with the increase of online usage and Sony's restricted it on their end like they did through the pandemic. It's the only thing I could think of. Still frustrating as I had done a couple of streams last week with no issues.
Even that doesn't fix it. I tried that and tried playing fortnite and the ping was still like 500...

Been dealing with this for a few months, my best advice is just switching to xbox. I tried everything new router, port forwarding, dns settings, mtu settings, factory resetting my ps5 and making sure it was up to date. Contacted playstation they said it was my isp but on my computer & phone i have much higher upload speeds. This is an issue with ps5 consoles and there is absolutely no way to fix it besides buying a new ps5 but why would i do that if there is a chance of it happening again, so i just rather go to xbox

Hey, I am having the same issue, very slow upload speeds, multiple comments suggest Sony is actually throttling upload speed, if this is the case why not switch to a PC gaming computer. Just asking.
PS, currently trying to play with 200 ms pin, have seriously thought about going over to PC….

I understand this is an old video but I've run into the same issues and I think the problem is due to your ISP forcing traffic through their own DNS. My ISP has a fixed DNS on their modems so I'm unable to change it. I run into the same issue when I try to set a public DNS on my PS5 but when I set up the wired connection automatically the upload speed appears normal. But unfortunately my ISP's DNS adds a ton of latency regardless of the internet speed test... So I'm screwed either way.

I’d be very curious to hear if computer using gamers or anyone who has the PS Plus Extra or PS Premium subscriptions have any of the same upload issues the rest of us are having…..
Confirming ‘upgraded plan subscribers’ don’t have this issue would pretty much spell out exactly what might be the cause of our issues (I’m just an essential subscriber)…. Which would suggest rather strongly they are intentionally capping speeds so as to get users to upgrade to more costly plans, which in turn increase their profits….
Hopefully this isn’t just a case of greed on their part and there is actually just an unintentional problem they are trying to address

I have very slow internet averaging around 15-5 mbps download do to were I live made it very had for gaming so I bought a Ethernet cable in hopes to increase my speed it did I was very excited to see it go to about 20-25 mbps but my upload is sitting at around 2-.1 mbps it’s literally dropping to kbps and I didn’t even know what was a thing

That's a hell of fast speed. Wish I could afford that. But honestly how much would it really matter when Sony's upload speed sucks. I myself am supposed to get up to 30MB upload speed, but the most I get on average is anywhere from KB to 5MB upload speed. My PS4 is the only device in the home that has these issues. To top it off when asking for help from T-Mobile or Sony, they say I don't know what's going on, and they tell me to go through all the lame ass tests I've already done, and then they say oh well it must be the other provider's fault. My neighborhood is supposedly surrounded by five 5G towers and I just recently learned that there's been a scam going on in the US where the towers are actually 4G and just under a different name like 5G E. In other words the 5G we have in the US is just as slow as 4G. We're being scammed just like everything else that happens in this country and the rest of the world. I hate corporations so much.
I thought I was crazy man, I have really good upload speed like at least 300mbps average but on PS5 it shows 9-26 mbps only and I can’t stream video games using PS Plus. I literally have a LAN cable plugged into my router so the upload speed should actually be faster like 400mbps so I don’t know what the heck going on with Sony.
I just done exactly what you done there with Hyperoptic in the uk showing 850mbps download and 11.6mbps upload when test internet connection. When I linked you tube account and clicked on privacy and then the dots to click Google search went to speed test ookla and I had 910.58mbps download and also 832.92mbps upload I see exactly what you mean thanks so much I was pulling my hair out and even hyperoptic advised then didn’t know after a new router why was showing this. They also said they have a system issue where they cannot access my router remotely to configure. So awaiting to see resolution to that internal system issue

What I still don’t quite understand though is: what does this actually mean? Are we totally fine and is it just the build in speed test giving the wrong numbers, or is there a clear signal going into the PS5 but can’t we benefit the speed for PSN/streaming games?

Maybe? If the PlayStation ingest server is throttling uploads, your upload quality will look bad compared to what it should be. It's hard to say....
@@vypermajik Yes! It is exactly that bad! And it is mind boggling for me why this gets so little media coverage? So what if I get 800Mbps Upload on speedtest through a browser (it measures connection to the closest server at your location) if my connection to PSN server is dog s#it. Who knows where PSN servers are but there are simply not enough of them and aren't fast enough compared to any competition.
Download is far from perfect but passable so you can stream games to your console ok'ish but with that upload? Dear heavens... have you tried streaming your play directly from PS5 to TH-cam or Twitch? Well good luck with 4K or even FHD solid stream. All I get is pixelated 720p which means it always goes through PSN servers and that internal test is not lying. I have 1Gbit UP/DW connection but my upload on PS5 is 15 - 8Mbps. Modern gaming console with advertised shareplay and streaming? Yeah right.

I wonder what upload speed does ps remote play uses? The real one or that is shown from built in test? Because my internet is 500mbps fiber, but when i ise remote play from abroud lets say around 50-100bmps still getting hiccups, so it made me thinking what upload actually uses the console, because for remote play it is very important

So basically it’s just displaying the incorrect speed but in reality it’s uploading at the actual speed the other test confirmed? I got AT&T fiber with my PS5 hardwired n I have same issue
Hey, just wanted to update, during day my Upload speed is showing correctly but weekend/evening it drops from 28mbps to 6-7mbps, the secret browser(and Xbox SX) both show the correct speed but the PS5 is dramatically lower which is causing issues playing FFXIV, I’m at a total loss and what to do or what could be causing this
Well, rumors have been said that Sony has been capping the ps5 upload speeds to save it servers from overloading, but that is just rumor.
@@jaxsonhayes3279 well the proof is certainly there, I thought it was my PS5 that was faulty but if that was the case surly the secret browser speed test would show the same results as the built in one?
I'm pissed rn I can't play any game... I have 2.7....upload and 700download.. like idk what to do
